Hi All,
I am really struggling to pick a new game for Switch. While many would bemoan Gamecube and N64 having small librarys, I honestly think I prefered it for the fact that it was easier to make a choice! I struggle really badly with there being hundreds and hundreds of Switch games. I don't know what I want! I just go round and round reading reviews of things and getting nowhere.
Based on my choices and playtime hours, can anyone make a few suggestions for me please?
Games Played:
Collection of Mana: 180 Hours
Toejam and Earl Back in The Groove: 150 hours (lol)
Trials of Mana: 40 Hours
Pokemon Let's Go: 40 Hours
Kirby and The Forgotten Land: 30 hours (loved it - but now 100 percented it!)
Luigis Mansion 3: 20 hrs
Child of Light: 15 Hours (shortish game - but loved)
Legend of Mana: 15 Hours
Sonic Mania: 20 Hours
Sonic Forces: 15 Hours
Bubble Bobble 4: 10 hrs
Valiant Heart: 5 hrs (short game time - but loved)
Should point out that I find full open world games too big and consuming!
Really open to suggestions, but a few things that I have been considering.
Spirit Farer, Pocky and Rocky Reshrined, Sam and Max 2, Mario Oddessey, Animal Crossing.
I would recommend Breath of the Wild as its an open world game where you can explore hyrule and enjoy having a unique adventure. Also Animal Crossing should be a must be as its an incredible game that you would never get bored.
You can not go wrong with Mario Odyseey, Animal Crossing and Pocky and Rocky Reshrined. If you like jump and runs, maybe you can try Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze or Yoshi's Crafted World.

I would always recommend 'Hades' to anyone with a Switch that doesn't have it already on another platform.
Hades was my 2021 Switch-GOTY.... addictive, fit for short-bursts or long hours of play, great gameplay and compelling narrative.
Rogue-lite in nature, but don't let that put you off! It is incredibly accessible for people new to the genre, and just a fantastic game/experience. The hype is definitely justified.
As others have pointed out though, Mario Odyssey would be a very safe bet for you (based on your shared playtimes of other games) but my personal recommendation would be Hades.
(NB. I loved Trials Of Mana..... but not as much as Hades!)
@Mana_Knight I LOVED Mario Odyssey. If you liked Kirby and the Forgotten Land, I think you'll possibly(probably) like Mario Odyssey more. Such an easy recommendation.
There's also Mario 3D All-Stars, if you're into that. It has Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy. This is physical only, and still in stock at most stores here in the US.
Notable mention 3d platformer: New Super Lucky's Tale. World 1 is kind of generic; After that the worlds and levels are great & fun, very polished. I really liked it. There is a demo.....
I mean, to not see Super Mario Odyssey or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on your list kind of hurts my soul. They're two of the best reasons to own a Switch.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,529 games (as of November 20th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 3 games (as of November 23rd, 2025)
@Magician Thanks for the suggestions! I have Melee and Brawl. Aside alot of characters and stages, is there anything significantly more to it? While I look the look of it, I would like to experience something a bit new. I also don't have anyone to play with and heard that online is mostly populated by the extremely skilled, which can make it unfun for new players. Is the single player experience good enough? I heard WOL is no sub station/adventure mode replacement?
