Any ideas for getting my Switch to stop freezing while playing games? It's been solid for 7 years but froze 3x last night playing XCX while docked. Then playing other games both from cart and memory in handheld and docked. We tried a different dock as well but seeing it freeze in handheld means it's probably the system.
Now it has been hot & humid and it was in a bag for a few days so maybe it just needs to dry out, like a phone in a bag of rice?
I've read online to "clear the cache" and "reset while saving data" but I haven't tried those yet b/c it got late. I'll try those later. Any other ideas?🤷♂️
Also, I wanted to move my 1 kids save file to my other kids Switch, but it needs email verification but that email address is kaput. It was with our old cable company we canceled 3yrs ago and since then they've turned off the accounts. So we can NOT get the verification code, and we can't change the email w/o the code. It's an impossible Catch-22. I'm calling Nintendo later for that, hopefully they can help. We can't be the first people to have their email unavailable.

@rjejr Most times a game freezing is a faulty sd card. I'm not clear if reformatting the card can solve it, though I've seen nintendo support site suggest it. If it's not the sd card, I think it may mean the system memory/storage is failing.
The orange screen implies a hardware issue that probably requires repair. I'm too much of a layperson to know more about that. Solid color screen troubleshoot page says do a hard reboot, & make sure the console is updated. Maybe not very helpful. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a...
Unfortunately, the switch is not good with hot & humid summer conditions.
I think if you contact nintendo support, and can prove your identity, you might be able to transfer the email address. This is kind of a common problem. I don't know how easy/hard it is to prove who you are, though.
Haven't tried taking the SD card out, I'll look into that later. Had thought about moving it to our other Switch but thought Nintendo installed piracy protections or some such. Will look into that later.
On the bright right, hurrah for bright sides it's been a long night, we got my kids email changed extremely easily w/ a Chat box. Almost too easily really, but it has been 8 years since Switch released so they weren't really doing 2 step verification stuff back then. I found a list of like a dozen websites my kid used to access w/ that old email address. They outgrew them years ago but like they said the email being dead means no one else is using them either.
Got a 1 week free NO trial, cloud saved the game to move it over, and played XCX for a couple of hours last night on the other Switch console. That was the main goal 25hours into the game. If I can't fix the 8 yr old Switch, well the new Switch 2 should hopefully be ours soon so adios old friend.
I'll let ya know how it goes. Thanks again.

That's why you shouldn't use an email associated with a service like a cable company or other TV provider. Instead use something like Gmail or Yahoo mail. They are free and literally take seconds to set one up and you can have them for years.

@Tasuki Thanks for telling me something I could have used over 20 years ago. Also, Gmail ain't great when you're getting 500 spam emails a day in various languages while someone hacks your account. So I'm not using Gmail as my primary account either. I'm also not using my AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy, Earthlink, Juno, Netzero or Seganet which I got w/ my Dreamcast, email accounts either for various reasons. And probably a few others, those were just off the top of my head.
The email problem has been taken care of though, now it's time to see about resurrecting an old Switch.🤞
