Topic: Nintendo switch thermal paste

I just replaced the thermal paste in 3 locations of my Nintendo switch

(between the CPU and the small metal plate that sits underneath the heat sink, between the CPU shield and underneath the heat sink, and on top of the heat sink)

I used Arctic Silver 5 on all 3 locations.

I think I put a little to much on the CPU.

Will too much thermal paste hurt the CPU or any of the components or will it be ok if I left it alone?

The heat sink is also blowing hot air while playing Zelda breath of the wild. Is the heat sink blowing hot air normal?

@CactusMan do you know what kind of thermal paste be good? I used Arctic Silver 5 then ordered Arctic MX4 because I read that people like MX4 better than Arctic Silver 5 because it sounds like Arctic Silver 5 dries up in 1 year and MX4 lasts for 8 years.

Do you know what kind is good for the switch? There are so many to choose from and i want one that will last and keep it cooler

@CactusMan how many years should I replace thermal paste?

I brought a new animal crossing switch in May of 2021 brand new and I hope I don't need to replace the thermal paste within a few years.

@CactusMan how long will the original thermal paste would last?

Can it last for 5 or 10 years?

I usually play it docked 99% of the time

but I don't play high pitched games like Zelda breath of the wild no longer than 2-3 hours per day.

I heard most people who has the launch switch never replaced the thermal paste.

I brought the animal crossing switch last year and play it docked most so I am hoping I don't have to open it up anytime soon

Can the original tharmal paste that Nintendo uses last for 5 years or should I change it sooner?
