@Silly_G I like good times. 20 more years down the line I’d like to play with the grandkids, it’ll be called the nintendo1UP.

In all seriousness people are still playing their Atari 2600 and I did test my nes cartridges last year and they still work so I wouldn’t really worry about switch cartridges.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

@Silly_G
I have experiences with Dead PS3 disc.
I have four dead PS3 games, their disc are still fine but they cannot be read on my PS3 anymore (Error message appeared after entering the game).
I just wonder how could the disc died by itself even without rotting. I have never experienced with other games disc, just only PS3 games.
It really broke my heart as 2 of my dead PS3 games are very rare PS3 games (Toro Let's Party Asia English version, Tornado Outbreak).
I can always find the replacement on Ebay but it will be more expensive.

And Goodness knows

It all comes down to use and storage that will determine a Switch cart lifespan since it's solid state and metal contacts. As for OD that is dependent on the drive and chipsets being able to read the surface assuming no damage or OD materials rot from the burned surface to the top coating peeling off-how the environment its stored in or at. OD media has more chances to go bad sooner.

@Anti-Matter If the disc look fine, it could be the actual drive itself is failing - are you able to try the discs in a different PS3?

I have tried with other PS3 game disc, it still have same result. The dead PS3 games discs were really dead and other PS3 games disc were still working fine.

@Anti-Matter I've found that some disc are more forgiving of failing hardware though - I've had discs refuse to work on certain machine, but used them on another and they are fine. Had this with CDs, DVDs, games etc over the years. Worth trying if you have access to another PS3 - especially if replacing the disc is expensive.

@Magician thanks for the replies. I hear so many articles on reddit and articles saying ds and 3ds game cards last for 20-50 years and they are saying the switch game cards will last for only 20 years

This article must be false: https://hackaday.com/2020/12/03/game-cartridges-and-the-techn...

The article scared me because of the details they said

Glad to know that they will last a long time hopefully longer than the 20 years that the article I linked recommended

@Magician I happen to look through my collection of DS game cards just now and found one of my DS game cards with cartridge root.

I find it odd because I have not played that game within a decade.

I brought it brand new at Walmart back when Nintendo was saleing DS and I got the game on release day.

I kept it in a plastic game card case that's made for DS games.

I wonder what caused it to get cartridge root since I haven't played it in a decade and kept it in a case?
