Hi

For the last couple of times I've noticed that my switch battery drains too fast. Yesterday while I was playing pokemon sword, my battery drained 30% in 30 minutes. Is that normal? Is my battery faulty?
Also my joycons battery drains while the switch is off. Are they faulty too?

Thanks

@Asantos The switch and joycons have lithium ion batteries, just like smartphones. So, battery capacity will degrade over time. That's just a fact of rechargeable lithium ion batteries. Replacing the battery is the solution. And the fact that Nintendo hasn't made battery access easy for the Switch is a bit anti-consumer.

Unused joycons seem to naturally lose charge over time. So, I can't say that sounds out of the ordinary. My extra joycons that sit in a drawer seem to lose their full charge within 3-4 months.

Side note: In the case of unused switch/joycons, Nintendo recommends they should be charged at least once every six months to help extend the life of the batteries. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/09/random_remember_to_...

If you replace the batteries, or have a store/console repair business replace the batteries for you, do what you can to avoid cheap batteries. Nintendo's batteries are high quality, and have longer lifespans than cheaper battery brands.

I went the expensive route, and replaced my 2017 launch Switch with an OLED model.

Yeah, if you have an older switch from around 2017-18, chances are the battery for the switch and the joy cons are much older and have deteriorated significantly.

Oled model improves battery life if you wish to pick that sucker up.

I liked the battery life for Nintendo DS Lite way better than the Nintendo 3DS’s, and Switch’s. 3–5 hrs of battery life is not enough. It should at least lasts for 8 hrs. You probably should look up how to make your Nintendo Switch’s battery life lasts longer.

Out of warranty you can always look on Amazon and find compatible battery and see the specs and reviews to be sure your getting a quality replacement battery assuming some one makes them available to but and replace.
