"Nintendo Co. told outside game developers it is delaying delivery of 64-gigabyte game cards for the Switch console until 2019, people familiar with the matter said, meaning gamers may have to wait longer for some data-rich software titles.
Nintendo had planned to make 64-gigabyte cards available to partner developers in the second half of 2018, but recently told them that it would push the date back to 2019 owing to technical issues, according to people with direct knowledge of the discussions.
They said the notice disappointed some software makers, especially U.S.-based publishers that often produce data-heavy games. Those publishers may wait for the 64-gigabyte card to release those kinds of games for the Switch."
It's bizarre when you think that companies refuse to use the 32GB cartridge. I think Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2 remains the only game to use it and that was only released in Japan. I'd love to know how much a 32GB cartridge costs.
Third partys don't even buy 32GB when necessary and opt for 16GB or 8GB instead with the rest as a download (as shameful as this is) so what do they want with 64GB?
Yeah, I just thought this was not news, it looks like the number one priority is getting the 32GB cards cheaper so they actually use them. But I am still boggled how games like Mario can be only 5GB and some 3rd parties are requiring 32GB I think working with developers on optimisation may be another way to address the issue as well.
