Enough power that ports won't look or run like ass would be nice. plus we might get more ports in general that way instead of everyone saying oh that new game would never run on switch.

@Truegamer79 That would be great. Switch is Nintendo's console with the worst performance in first-party games ever, so it's not just bad for third-party games. Tears of the Kingdom graphics and performance have nothing to do with the early trailers, not to mention other games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2. A Link to the Past, even. I was fine with Nintendo not being the most powerful until Switch because the games were tailor-made for the system: Wii U, 3DS, Wii... Switch is Nintendo's only console that seems to be struggling from the start and that has low-quality controllers. Those two are the worst things about Switch, in my opinion. It doesn't have a great battery life either, considering how weak it is.

The only thing i want is Game Broadcasting Capabilities via the Twitch App like on PS4

This doesn't really apply to the "Switch 2" launch model, but when they get round to a 'Switch 2 Lite' handheld focused model, I'd like it to be more compact and lightweight and I'd love to see a clamshell design

TSR3

Banjo-

@TSR3 I love that. That's why I prefer the smaller New 3DS, which makes me think that perhaps a dock with a GPU for TV gaming would be nice so the resolution can be boosted easily and the frame rate wouldn't tank.

@skywake I find the loudness to be hit or miss as well, I like a good volume and a good middle ground, but most headphones are either too quiet or are too weirdly loud making it not fun to mess with the volume slider. Having no wire is nice but eventually, it gets a little insane with $500+ headphones and the only real added feature being noise cancellation. Currently (in Canada) a PS4 is $380 and a pair of Apple AirPods Max (not a great example) is $730.

@Banjo- A TV link for the handheld would be a nice extra, but only if it didn't add to the weight, or the price (the Lite is meant to be the the budget option as well). Otherwise I'm happy for TV mode to stay with the full fat hybrid model.

As far as an external GPU goes, most technical analysis I've read or seen suggests it'd be a waste of time, or even a negative. What I'd like to see from the Switch 2 is a good balance of CPU, GPU, memory and bandwidth performance. Did you see the recent DF video of running ToTK on an unlocked Switch? They found the biggest performance bottleneck was the memory bandwidth! IIRC unlocking the CPU or GPU made minimal difference to the performance.

TSR3

Banjo-

@TSR3 I will watch that video. I have watched other videos playing TotK on emulators and the difference is huge. I wasn't sure about the dock thing either but I see that the Asus Rog Ally that is tempting me has that possibility that it doesn't really need and I wonder if that would be good for Nintendo's next hardware but probably it's better to just have a powerful handheld with good screen and speakers.

I don't understand why hardware price is such a problem for Nintendo when Switch games are super expensive. I always prefer to buy the best possible hardware and buy games as cheap as possible. I don't mean that Nintendo should release the most powerful console but now they tend to sell underpowered and overpriced hardware and I don't like that.

1. Full backwards compatibility with Switch games/NSO/accessories
2. Resolve the stick drift issue
3. The transfer system improves (e.g. you do the system transfer from Switch to the new system, can just put the microSD card in the new system and use your games straight away)
4. More power to be able to natively run more 3rd party games (late PS4 era games like FFVII Remake feels like a realistic goal)
5. The option to buy NSO games (like how on Xbox you currently have the choice between subscribing to Game Pass or buying games outright)
6. Better battery life
7. Don't rely on CoD (that franchise is a curse)

@Bolt_Strike
I was thinking about your ideas here. I think there's possibly a way they could merge your two ideas. Instead of having a dual screen device and having a mobile controller what if they just beefed up the mobile app so it allowed your mobile to be the second screen? And then had some kind of mechanism to put your mobile device in a controller. Maybe even put that same app on the eShop so you can download it for Switch or this new hardware

Would there have to be restrictions due to variations in mobile hardware? For sure. But fundamentally the Wii U and for that matter (3)DS was best when the second screen had relatively static content. Maps, menus etc. You could easily stream that kind of content. Might not even be a full video stream. Could be some kind of container for 2D content and I/O you develop to

@Banjo- I doubt Nintendo will make 'improvement' (e.g. reductions) to the price of the Switch 2, but most of their home consoles have been in the same ballpark when you adjust for inflation. The Wii U is the exception. So if you adjust £279 for inflation since 2017 it's currently equivalent to £349 (and will likely be higher by the time the next model comes out). So as long as it's in the same ballpark, I'll be OK. I don't have a problem with Nintendo having a different business model to Sony or Microsoft and pricing their kit to break even from day 1. I don't think they're over-priced. But I do think the Switch Lite at £199 was over-priced in the UK (and looks even worse now the OG Switch has had a price cut), so if they pull the same stunt again with a Switch 2 Lite, I'll be annoyed

As for under-powered, as long as it's enough power for Nintendo themselves to innovate and justify producing new games then I won't worry either. Going by the hardware leaks from last year, it should have enough power to spare for last-gen and cross-gen ports, and not embarrass itself on 4K TVs. Aren't most PC gamers still on HD anyway?

I know a few people have mentioned Themes. Personally I'd be happy with better colour options, beyond just Black and White. Relatedly I'd like to see improved accessibility options. I've read that Microsoft and XBox are leading the way with this, it'd be good to see Nintendo try and catch up a bit.

I mostly want better battery life (still mad they improved battery life in the versions they released like months after I bought mine) and actually solid joysticks. Anything else outside of what would be immediately expected of a new console would just be a nice bonus.

@skywake Nah, they'd only be able to use that for enhancements because they can't guarantee that everyone has a smartphone (most people probably will, but they can't say every single person that does will have one). I think there are some mechanics and concepts that they could design a game around instead of just being optional containers for maps and menus and such. For example, any kind of mechanic that involves aiming/zooming would be greatly enhanced to the point where they should just make it a mandatory feature. And what's sad is that they actually showed off the concept in the Wii U reveal trailer but didn't really tap into this potential in their actual games.

Look at 1:54, where they have the minigame with you using the Gamepad to scan the windows to find the right Mii. Could you imagine using that in shooters such as Splatoon and Metroid Prime for sniping? Or also for scanning in Metroid Prime? Or to find Pokemon in Pokemon Snap? Or to aim Yoshi's Eggs? Or literally any other kind of gimmick they could come up with that involves aiming or searching something? There's just way too much potential in something like that to make it optional, they could design entire games around mechanics like that. So no, I don't think the two ideas can be merged. The phone enhancements would make for a nice option, but the dual screens should be mandatory.

A unique amazing controller. A good-looking Nintendo Switch 2’s eShop menu that makes it possible to look up different types of genres of Switch games. PS4 graphics. Let players who has your friend codes voice chat in online battles, trading, online races, etc.

What do you want in terms of genre search? You can already filter by price, age rating, sale, and 27 different genres. It would be nice if they added more specific genres like 'metroidvania' but I think there is zero chance they will start tagging their games with informal categories like that. One thing I would like is if you could search for 'action + platformer' rather than 'action or platformer'.

A couple of people in this thread have also been listing games they want to see as "features", which seems a bit sketchy, but I have a couple of ideas for games myself. To keep this more on topic though, I'm going to list game ideas that could make use of some of the hardware features I listed earlier, here are the more relevant and impactful ones for reference:

Bolt_Strike wrote:

*Dual screen clamshell design, but with a gimmick where the two screens can detach from each other. This can allow for even more setups such as having one screen docked and the other connected to the Joycons in a Gamepad setup, or when playing with a friend, the other friend can get their own screen as well as their own Joycon.
*The L and R buttons are now scroll wheels like the ones they patented several years ago.
*ZL and ZR buttons are pressure-sensitive again.
*A legitimate VR peripheral that actually enhances full fledged games instead of a cardboard gimmick that only lets you play minigames.
*A keyboard controller peripheral that can connect to the screens, allowing you to emulate a PC-esque setup. A set of minigames could be bundled alongside it.
*A phone case with Joycon attachments (Joycons can be bundled with the phone case for those that do not have them) and a downloadable app. With them you can use Joycons to play select Nintendo games on your phone.
*Compatible with existing NSO infrastructure. In other words, no starting from square one with the NES again for the 20th time, all of the NSO systems from the Switch are immediately available on the next gen Switch once an active NSO subscription is set up on the device.

*A new 2D Mario game (not a NSMB game, a new game with a different artstyle). This game would add in a few classic moves that have been around in 3D games for a while, such as the Long Jump, Side Somersault, and Triple Jump. It would also include the ability for enemies to steal your powerups if they make contact with it before you do.
*A new 3D Mario game that's Bowser's Fury style open world. The gimmick would probably involve actions such as touching on the second screen to interact with certain elements or temporarily creating platforms like the Cloud Flower/NSMBU, basically an expansion on what Bowser Jr. can do in Bowser's Fury (although probably with an original new companion character). With the new VR set, you can use the gimmicks using realistic motions instead of the touch screen.
*Mario Kart 9. Unsure of an exact gimmick for this too, I keep thinking 2 person cars like Double Dash with the ability for them to split, but that sounds like a solution in search of a problem and I can't think of any practical reason you would want that. Would also include many improvements from Tour (an actual shop system, R, T, and R/T variants, recurring tours).
*A cross gen Metroid Prime 4. The Switch 2 version of Prime 4 includes an enhancement where alternate visors are displayed on the second screen instead of replacing the Combat Visor, allowing you to perform actions with your visors without having to take yourself out of the combat. Also compatible with the new VR, but doesn't do anything different gameplay wise.
*A 2D Kirby game that brings back the belly mechanics from Squeak Squad. As in Squeak Squad, Kirby can store items and powerups in his belly and combine them or spit them out. In this game though, you can aim the direction where Kirby should spit them out (with several options as to how to do so, such as the Right Stick or the Gyroscope). Some puzzles might even require you to spit certain items at objects.
*A 3D Yoshi game where you can freely aim Yoshi's Eggs (again, using the Right Stick or Gyroscope depending on your preferences). The levels would be fairly sandboxy, but still a bit more on the linear side.
*10th Gen Pokemon games. These games would include both SV and LGPE's co-op systems, if your friends have their own Switches they could enter your world, but if not, you can give them your second screen and they can control the opposite gendered player as needed. In addition, this game would add the ability to use the Rotom Phone to scan overworld Pokemon, similar to the Dexnav in ORAS. By default this would be done on the second screen, but if you're using split screen and don't have one you can press a button to scan instead.
*Splatoon 4, which now has larger, more open maps in both single player and multiplayer and a new Splattle Royale mode, similar to Fortnite. You can also use 2 player co-op, either with a friend online or locally by giving them a second screen.
*For the keyboard peripheral, it would come with a minigame compilation. Some of the minigames would include one that teaches kids how to type and a text based adventure game
*A new Scribblenauts game would also be developed for the keyboard peripheral.
*NSO tiers would be reorganized to deal with device limitations. N64 and GBA games would be moved to the basic tier, while the Expansion Pack would retain Genesis games and add Gamecube games and later DS, Wii and 3DS games. The OG Switch will then no longer be compatible with the Expansion Pack systems and that will be an exclusive to the Switch 2. Meanwhile, mobile devices will be able to subscribe to the basic tier as well with the phone case and the requisite app installed.

Voice Chat is Absolutely essential for the next Console, and maybe we can send messages too?

Controllers like the Joy-Cons would be great but they should be more comfortable.
