what improvement's and features would you like to see on the Next Gen Nintendo Console, i personally would love "Built in Game Broadcasting Capabilities" as seen on Xbox and PS4 with the Twitch App where you can Broadcast your gameplay, i would love to Stream myself playing Mario Kart 8 or Metroid Prime, that's my pipedream.

i enjoy Mario Kart Double Dash and Cups of Tea !!!!

Kermit1doesmath

A movie maker app, nothing crazy, just a super simple editor and the ability to upload to YouTube (or Vimeo idk). So pretty much instead of clips you could have a toggle for the Capture button that lets you record for (let's just say) 1h max (or whatever your SD card can hold).

now for the basics

  • Better battery life
  • Better screen
  • Good price
  • Streaming Apps (Netflix, Disney+, Tubi)
  • No drift (pretty please)

Hardware:

  • Built in bluetooth support, no reason to wait a whole revision or update for this
  • Better battery life
  • More power (obviously) but to a reasonable degree unlike the delusional ones unironically asking for 4K graphics, a portable PS4 seems the more reasonable
  • Functioning controllers - please actually make an effort to fix drift this time unlike the disaster the joycons turned out to be

Software:

  • Streaming Apps (Netflix, Disney+, Hulu etc.)
  • More themes and customization
  • Folders but good (the execution for the Switch ones were terrible and didn't have that much reason to use them)
  • Better Eshop - the current one we have is a mess to navigate through and is very laggy despite having the most simplistic UI
  • A (actually good) virtual console, the library for the Switch's is pathetic and the drip feeding doesn't do it any favors, not to mention the inferior emulation it offers

Good... good
Now play Dragon Quest

A special edition that consists of user-definable themes, folders, and the ability to upload your own music to main screen. Doesn't have the ability to play games.

Otherwise more grunt, no drift, fancy screen, massive speakers like an 80s ghetto blaster
(Maybe not the last one).
The eShop could do with being modernised quite a bit, although for me it's quite zippy.

@iLikeUrAttitude the hardware list of yours is reasonable and most importantly, doable, unlike the fools expecting Nintendo of all companies to make a 4K console when the Switch uses Wii U technology for heaven’s sake

And your software list is basically asking for the best features of Nintendo consoles past, such as Netflix and Themes. I honestly don’t know if Nintendo will ever return to this after the 3DS/Wii U era flopped and scarred them for life. I would most definitely like to see this. And as for the Virtual Console, nintendo is looking for ways to profit off their old games, not make them specifically catered to their audience. A subscription service capitalizes on nostalgia while also making it pretty much a requirement for most switch users because Online multiplayer is locked behind the subscription service. If bringing back Virtual Console is more profitable to Nintendo than the current NSO model (which unfortunately it isn’t), then VC would be back in replacement of the NSO next Gen.

Wait, why do we need a signature? Eh, I don’t know. Here’s your signature.

I know not technically about Switch 2 proper, but new Pro Controller please. The current one feels amazing, but the inconsistency of some controls (e.g. up-button) is very annoying.

Really, I'd just be happy with more of the same, but with a power upgrade.

I'd also like there to be a camera and microphone in the console itself this time around a la the Wii U Gamepad and the 3DS.

And the next logical step for the dock is to allow it to stream wirelessly while in handheld mode, and/or blow the door open for asynchronous multiplayer without requiring a second console, a la the Wii U. Performance/resolution will be locked to 720p (or whatever the handheld's resolution will be), as per handheld performance, but inserting the console itself into the dock will allow it to display in 1080p (and benefit from improved performance).

Definitely. The Switch rarely manages native 1080p at the best of times. A system powerful enough to handle 1080p virtually 100% of the time would be perfectly acceptable.

That would be up to the streaming providers themselves. We don't need a whole new console for that type of functionality. Frankly, I don't understand why they still sleep on the Switch when the friggin' Wii had a Netflix app, if memory serves (albeit exclusive to the US?). I too am disappointed with the lack of video/utility apps on the platform generally.

@Sisilly_G Actually Nintendo originally said they didn't have Netflix because ' they wanted to focus on making it a gaming-first platform'. That was a long time ago and they've added some streaming since then, so who knows what the current decision process is. YouTube has gaming content and Netflix doesn't so that might have been part of the decision. That said, apart from having a slightly more customizable interface and better eshop, I agree software is independent of Switch 2.

Base PS4 level of performance with same-ish battery life.

Get me ports of Elden Ring, Devil May Cry 5, and Guilty Gear Strive.

It doesn't need to be more complicated than that, it truly does not.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

A reasonable power boost. No need to get in arms race with Xbox/Playstation. PS4 power handheld PS4 pro docked? Be able to get more of the 8th generation games ported and also current 9th generation games. What is the best resolution that makes a difference on a 7in screen? 720pi and 60 frames handheld, 900pi? An ethernet port would be nice as I'm not opposed to cloud gaming but am guessing a beefier Switch will run those games more than fine for me without that feature. Still be cool to have if necessary. I think handheld is where it's at for me so keep the same hybrid format and just improve it all a bit.

More Mario
More Zelda
More games

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

FishyS

@1UP_MARIO Any new hardware you think is needed for new Mario or Zelda games? Obviously TotK graphics could be a bit better, but I honestly can't think of what a Mario game would even do with higher performance hardware on a Switch 2.

Anti-Matter

1. More power so the 3rd party developers will not downgraded the games too much, keep the quality much like PS4 / XBOX version.

2. Provide bigger size cartridge with cheaper price so the 3rd party developers will not using bad business practice by cheaping out the cost production with partial download, code in box, streaming only as their excuse to compesate with cost production.
And Nintendo should disapprove the code in box practice to keep the customer satisfaction.

3. Better design of the retail cover with size dimension more like PS VITA so the cover size will be not like PSP style, but much like PS VITA style with more square rectangle size.

4. BACKWARD COMPATIBLE with previous Switch.

5. ARMS 2 on Switch 2.
Also, provide more cartoonish Boxing games from both Nintendo and 3rd party developers.

6. STOP the Live Service update practice.

7. Able to copy the Save data directly to Flashdisk or SD Card.

8. At least 500 GB internal hardware

9. Some lively HOME Menu like 3DS or PS4.

10. New Animal Crossing game must have multiple Save data slots, at least 3 slots.

  • In terms of performance it will be today's equivalent of what the Switch was in 2017. In other words: A noticable leap, but not cutting edge. That has always worked for Nintendo (portable, profitable, good enough), why would they approach it differently.
  • I'd think it would have to put out 4K, if it shouldn't feel outdated quickly.
  • most of your wishes I don't get. Streaming services, what, why? We all own x devices that do that already. Messy home screen? No thanks, I love how they went simple and clean with the Switch. Gigantic hard drive - what's wrong with the SD slot? Backwards compatibility - meh I don't know, surely it will be there if the system is similar enough to the Switch. If it's a radical departure, maybe not. But why do you care, do you replay old games that much? Don't you buy a new console for the new games? How about keeping the old systems around for that?

@iLikeUrAttitude I was gonna contribute more to this, but I saw your list that pretty well covers everything and is very realistic.
The only thing I would add is getting rid of that phone app and having modern, usable online features. Nintendo is more than a decade behind with this and somehow went backwards from Wii U to Switch.

More unrealistically, I'd like full backward compatibility, but I think we all know that won't be happening

@NintendoWife

  • home screen - I think people want the option to change the the homescreen a bit; the default can still be simple. Even sorting which games are displayed rather than having them be sorted by recently played would be nice. Or changing the general background color.
  • storage - As for hard-drive size, sd cards are nice, but it's a little ridiculous the default 32 GB size can't even hold a single game if you want to download e.g. Witcher 3 as your first game. 32 GB is seriously tiny.
  • back-compatible - I have 100s of games on Switch and still plan to play a lot of those games for the next 5-10 years. Since my Switch is aging, I would really prefer to play those games on the next device rather than having to buy a new Switch and the next device. Honestly, no back-compatibility would make me tempted not to get the new console at all, at least not when it was new and had a tiny catalog.
  • streaming services - honestly, just for convenience; I doubt anyone thinks it's all that important. If you're on the go, you don't want to have to carry around several devices and Switch has a larger screen than phones.

Just because you don't care about all those things doesn't mean a lot of other people don't. Some of those are just simple quality-of-life features Nintendo could add because why not and some might actually affect sales of a new device.

Do the switch, but add the Nintendo flair, because I noticed a lack of it with the switch, the home menu could use wallpapers, even though the 3ds already did it, Nintendo for some reason just decided not. Music for the Eshop, it would be amazing!

I know no one cares about miis but just like the Wii I wish they would move around again.

Just little things like that, and of course some extra power, but that’s what I would really want.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Yeah and it will, of course, come with more than 2017's 32GB. But most people won't need WAY more, SD cards are super cheap and load just as fast, at least on Switch that's the case. Best solution to keep the system's price down.

That is very interesting. I find that I hardly ever revisit games. And at least nowadays I never sell old systems (as kids we had to, like most kids, in order to fund the next system), so should I want to replay something, the respective console is right there. Also interesting that your Switch is failing, but then again you seem to be playing a LOT more than I did Still I'd think replacing that Switch would come quite cheap after the successor has launched. By the way, if you really bought hundreds of Switch games, the cost of a system is rather insignificant compared to the sum you spent on games. Let's say you bought 300 games for an average of 30€$, that would amount to 9000€$.
Don't get me wrong, I don't oppose backwards compatibility, why would I. And Nintendo has often implemented it - where technically possible. GC>Wii>WiiU, no problem. GB>GBA>DS>3DS, no problem. WiiU>Switch, problem. N64>GC, problem. "Technically" meaning: If the computer architecture and/or the play style aren't compatible between generations they can't easily do it.

Yeah but this is not going to happen. If feels very outdated as an idea. Made sense in the early smartphone days, and before Smart TVs. But now absolutely everybody carries their smartphone with them 24/7, phone screens keep getting bigger, and every TV is a Smart TV.

Goes without saying. I'm merely guessing what's realistic, just for fun.

@NintendoWife Honestly, most of the people who comment on this site including me tend to be far from typical players, so it's hard to even guess how much Nintendo cares about any of us versus e.g. 8 year olds. 😛 Folders is a good example; since the majority of Switch users early in the lifespan owned fewer than 10 games, Nintendo just didn't feel like doing something extremely simple which was only useful for the more varied users.

As for prices, you under-estimate how many 1-10 dollar games exist on Switch. Even well known (non-Nintendo) games often go on 75%-90%+ sales. For example I bought Ori for $5 and mario+ rabbids for less than $10. And I just bought two $2 indie games last week (one was 95% off and one just started out as a $2 game). So yes, software inevitably ends up costing more than hardware in the long run, but you can get a ton of games for the couple hundred dollars hardware costs. I'm not saying most people want that many games, just that that is how people like me end up with 100s of games without breaking the bank.

@FishyS True, I’m a bit atypical as well probably. I bought maybe 50 games? Most of them physical and full price though. I’m kinda old and prefer having boxes and modules. Also lending out games or selling if I don’t like them.
