Think you guys are overthinking them offending people just by the nature of the games they're releasing. Maybe a few crazies would get offended, but...I don't think this will change anything in regards to the games or their release dates.
@NEStalgia It could be some kind of safety feature, depending on another source for cooling seems weird, but you also lower the chances of that system failing, because even if the coal plant stopped supplying for some reason, they could probably switch it over to their own grid. Either way, considering there are many nuclear power plants in seismically active areas, they have plenty of built-in safety features. Fukushima is the only major nuclear disaster that happened this millennium, and arguably the only one since Chernobyl, and even then it wasn't nowhere near as bad as Chernobyl.
Not sure how severe the earthquake in Hokkaido was. I worked the entire day, and I didn't hear about it until a few hours ago. One of my friends is in the area at the moment, but I haven't gotten a response yet.
Anyway, the good news is that this gives Ninty more time to finish that Pikmin 4 trailer.
There's nothing that states that a Direct has to air on a Thursday, so if events have been delayed in Japan due to the natural occurrences, then it could be on Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday.
Here's my wishes that everything is sorted soon over there, and condolences to families that have been shattered from the disasters.
@Octane they say this plant can run for one week without external power (but they shut it down for safety)... Seems like a really bad design that it can't supply itself indefinitely if needed. Those reactors are ancient and the popular dislike for nuclear ironically prevented deeded updates to nuclear tech to make it safer. The more everyone complains, the less safe it is. Heck 3mi is ancient and even that is way more modern with way more precautions. The meltdown there was more human stupidity than anything else.
Chernobyl... Yeah... Soviet ideology at it's finest. Screw the safeties, direct rod insertion is so much more efficient! Then we'll hire a bunch of naval reactor engineers to run it.... Who have no knowledge of the specific dangers of direct insertion. Don't worry, we don't need to build containment, it'll be fine! Trouble is if you slam the full cooling rod into that design they melt in place and you get a runaway reaction. The naval night crew was clueless and slammed the cooling rods in like their submarines needed at the first sign of trouble. The disaster was irreversible after the first minute.
5m+ without power... i wouldn't expect to hear back from your friend for quite a while. I imagine they'll keep all power generation offline until they can both examine the grid continuity and wait out potential aftershocks and tsunamis for at least several days.
This blue eye perceives all things conjoined. The past, the future, and the present. Everything flows and all is connected. This eye is not merely seen reality. It is touching the truth. Open the eye of truth... There is nothing to fear.
@Dezzy Xenoblade Chronicles needs more than an upres. I'm playing with the upgraded texture pack now (very legally) and it makes a world of difference. That said, the character models still definitely need their poly count upped a bit more if we're going with a professional release, at least the main party members. Skyward Sword could probably just be fine with a straight upres though.
I tried playing with the high-res texture pack and while it was an improvement, I still felt like the resolution increase was a bigger improvement.
So I suggested that just because they could do that on a tiny budget. Requires no extra work.
And while we're on the topic of HD Wii remasters, my biggest never-gonna-happen wish for this direct is the announcement of an HD Mario Galaxy Collection for Switch, since those are probably my two favorite games of all time. They're simply perfect platformers, and remastering their already-beautiful graphics into glorious HD would make my inner seven-year-old incredibly happy.
This would make me so happy. I could lose a lot of hours in those games during rainy weekends the coming months. There were some rumors a little while ago, weren't there?
@toiletduck I believe there were a few rumors about that at one point, but I'm unsure of their credibility given that we haven't heard about them in so long. Regardless, it would be an absolute dream come true to play these masterpieces of platforming in HD--on a portable device, no less.
But let's no stop there--give us Mario Galaxy 3, Nintendo! I know you can do it! Odyssey was great, but give the people (meaning me) what they really want!
@toiletduck Probably touch screen, I'd imagine. There could possibly be a different control scheme using buttons on the Joycons as well, which could be feasible since the Joycons have more buttons than the original Wiimote. Perhaps use the shoulder buttons to target objects to shoot with stars?
Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.
@ilikeike if it does happen. I think it will be the touch screen when in handheld mode and pointer when docked. Similar to how captain toad treasure tracker uses it on the switch on coop mode
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
@toiletduck It does indeed. Also the upcoming Switch version of The World Ends With You uses a similar control scheme of pointer controls with the joycon when docked and touch controls in handheld mode.

Not to get anyone's hopes up, but I've heard rumblings about the Direct being dropped later this afternoon like the Direct Mini back in January. Of course this is completely unconfirmed as of now, but I thought it was worth posting.
