Topic: Nine Parchments Alternative?

Posts 1 to 11 of 11

Would be really grateful if someone could help with some game suggestions.

I got my two children, now 12 and 9 into gaming by playing Gauntlet legends on my old N64 which they enjoyed.

Got a switch and found the fantastic nine parchments which the 3 of us have now completed fully.

There is now a nine parchments hole that needs to be filled, we tried reload hero’s but don’t like that you cannot save progress and became a bit of a shootfest. Genetic disaster has been ok but again cannot save progress.

Is there anything like 9P, gauntlet legend with character unlocks, upgrades, different weapons, boss levels, the all important save option, co-op and is age appropriate.

Really appreciate all those who take the trouble to reply. Many thanks

I always recommend Diablo III whenever possible, especially while it's on deep discount (at least in North America it is, I'm not sure about the UK atm). I'd also recommend the Torchlight games, although I don't believe those have local co-op?

Diablo III is very similar to 9 Parchments, but has a high age rating so I'm not sure if you'd want to play that with your 9 and 12 year old. I've heard Minecraft Dungeons is pretty similar as well. I can't vouch for how good it is since I haven't played it myself, but it's worth looking into.

@Cynas

Whatever do you mean?

I've been experiencing mature-rated content since I was six years old, and look how well I turned out.

...in all honesty, Minecraft Dungeons is a solid alternative if you're worried about graphic violence.

@Magician Haha I guess I played Mortal Kombat as a kid and wasn't scarred to badly, but maybe that's just because the sprites weren't as realistic as the graphics they have today.

@DrS If you're willing to deviate from the RPG dungeon crawler genre, you could try out Overcooked with your kids. It's a pretty fun and hectic co-op experience.

Thanks for the recommendation I take a look at minecraft dungeons.

I did look at Diablo before posting but as it was a 16 not sure it was appropriate.

Really look for RPG, is there a nine parchments sequel in the pipeline that we can look forward to?

Nine Parchments was made by Frozenbyte, a studio that had their biggest success with the Trine series of games. According to their wiki page they're currently working on a game called Starbase.

If you have a PC, Magika is pretty similar to 9 parchments, but quite a bit more interesting. You combine spells and elements. Late in the game your characters are all basically gods tossing fire lightning in every direction. But it is kinda buggy.

Never played Magika 2. It's suposedly less buggy, but also less fun.

Hi Dr Sparkle! Nine Parchments is a unique game in that it's essentially and arcade game masquerading as an RPG. It's just a twin-stick shooter with very light RPG elements. I've looked and haven't seen anything quite like it. But if you want a Gauntlet-style arcade game, have a gander at Gate of Doom and its sequel Wizard Fire, which are both two-player.

For a modern game, check out Wizard of Legend, which is somewhat similar to NP and is multiplayer.
