@rockodoodle Yeah, the next version of Nintendo's multiplayer franchises are probably going to be very much like your typical late-2010s non-Nintendo multiplayer games. Stuff like seasons, battle passes, DLC replaced with cosmetic microtransactions + free content updates, free to play multiplayer, etc.

The day they do that i'll stop buying Nintendo and stick to indies on PC

This. Price discrimination is unacceptable, and Nintendo will deserve to get crushed if they ever do anything like this.

@rockodoodle @Euler

A simple DLC like they did with Splatoon2 and Mario Kart8 is as much as i can tolerate.

Smash ultimate is pushing it too far and i didnt get the game and never will.

If they ever start going like garbage fortnite, fifa and cod, im out.

There’s so much content in Smash ultimate even without the DLC. I think that’s fair. As far MK9, if I have the option to play as different characters or get different skins, it would not bother me as long as the base game includes a fair amount.

@SquidOnTheRise it depends on how much and how badly I want the character. I might pay $5 for Funky Kong or Bowser Jr.

@SquidOnTheRise Smash Ultimate is going TOO FAR?

Nah if anything Smash Ultimate is basically setting an example for how to do seasons of content correctly, especially compared to other fighting games that squandered this concept like Street Fighter V

It's already more than complete at full price and the extra fighters and stages just add to the experience on top of that. If you're seriously holding Smash's style of content distribution to the level of games that overcharge for season passes that's a you problem, not a problem with the game.

If you read carefully you would know i dont hold them to the same level. I said Smash Ultimate is pushing too far while those other games are pure garbage. Clear distinction.

Smash ultimate can make you spend way too much for one game. I would say the game was fine with the fighters it released with. But if you want to really know the moveset of the other characters you're going to play against you need to pay. Thats pushing it.

Not to mention the talent would be better used creating a new game.

@SquidOnTheRise You also forget that these extra fighters were also added post launch and were obviously going to be paid due to the fact they would have to recoup development costs for their challenger packs in the first place

For the content you're getting 5 dollars for the individual fighters is not that much considering how much effort went into them. Why would they repurpose that effort into a new game when Ultimate by itself is a game they can't top right now with the amount of content on display? It makes logical sense to add onto it while people are still playing it and the community is still active. Support is even more crucial for Ultimate than Smash 4 because the Switch has a way higher install base than the Wii U so obviously more people would be playing actively so supplying content for it would be just more beneficial than jumping straight to the next game on whatever Nintendo console follows the Switch

Plus they're not required to enjoy the game. I bought both season passes and only consistently used like two of the characters from Pass 1 and only playing Sephiroth out of the Pass 2 characters. That isn't really pushing it at all when you consider there are games out there that literally lock content that was developed alongside the game to DLC instead of just being on the disc from the start

From an economic point of view sure it is more beneficial. Those other games i mentionned and their scheming tactics too. As long as people fall for it.

So i dont like what i see with Smash Ultimate but im still playing Nintendo games (not that one). Now if they start following trends we see these days i simply will stop playing their games and wont bother buying their systems.

I think the biggest difference is how the person values their money. I myself would consider 25 euro for 5 character (pass 1) or 30 euro for 6 characters (pass 2) not worth it in a game of 60 euro where the base roster consists of 74 characters (even 75 if you got the game early with the free piranha plant).
This value of money certainly is far different from a game like Mario Kart where the main game had 8 cups for 60 euro and the DLC added 4 extra cups for just 12 euro.

@SquidOnTheRise I don't understand why you just don't get the DLC if you think it's not worth it. It's not like the base game isn't one of the most content filled titles ever made, and you don't have to have professional level knowledge of each character to play and have fun.

I was never going to get this game because i played it too much on Wii U and i dont have as much time these days anyway. But if i wanted to have it, it would bother me. I remember getting crushed and it took days to adapt when hundreds of Bayonettas started popping up in for glory. I hated it.
