@link3710@sixrings it was a tongue in cheek mocking comment aimed at the pessimism of how being 3 weeks into 2021 people are talking about how poor this years line up is. NINTENDOOM! ;P
@VoidofLight I'd like to point out that Zelda and Pokemon always have their anniversary celebrations overlap, that's never stopped Nintendo in the past.
...not that I'm expecting much for this anniversary, but we'll probably get a book at least.
I doubt that Nintendo are keeping big completed games back for the successor of the Switch (or even for late life Switch). That said - I would absolutely believe that straight vanilla ports of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD for Switch exist, for those games I'd suggest it's just a matter of timing. I could also believe that there are a few small lower profile games that Nintendo has in their locker that are basically being held in reserve (things like Pushmo Switch).
What I can also believe is that Nintendo has already internally prioritised some development for "Switch 2" games. They may have done that sooner than they normally would have and for this reason we might see fewer "rushed" games like Star Fox Zero or the original Splatoon - they had to push those games out sooner than they would perhaps have liked on Wii U but they don't need to do the same on Switch at the moment.
@timleon By "saving" for the Switch's successor I was meaning stuff like MK8 Deluxe is still selling extremely well so MK9 has already been decided to be a launch window title for the Switch's successor instead of a late Switch era game.
Sonic Racing All Stars Transformed already felt like "Mario Kart 9" to me LOL.
If Mario Kart 9 featuring a transforming vehicles through the different environments, i will not really surprised.

I bet it will be like Tour. Focus will be on adding characters and skins.
@rockodoodle Yeah, the next version of Nintendo's multiplayer franchises are probably going to be very much like your typical late-2010s non-Nintendo multiplayer games. Stuff like seasons, battle passes, DLC replaced with cosmetic microtransactions + free content updates, free to play multiplayer, etc.
Usually Nintendo's much further behind the norm so the next version would be the mid-2010s full of loot boxes approach but the legal action against loot boxes makes me think Nintendo would skip that and go straight to the late-2010s approach instead.
@ToadBrigade Not sarcastic, by "behind the norm" I mean in the sense of Nintendo does the same things as Microsoft and Sony but years later. Sometimes being "behind the norm" was a good thing meanwhile other times it was a bad thing. Here's a few examples of things Nintendo introduced later:
Early 2000s had the PS2 and original Xbox with online multiplayer but Nintendo didn't introduce it until the mid 2000s.
In the mid 2000s DLC was very common on Xbox 360 and PS3 but Nintendo didn't introduce DLC in their games until 2012 (3DS)/2013 (Wii U)
Xbox Live was a paid online service in 2002 and PS4 introduced paid online in 2013 but Nintendo didn't introduce paid online until 2018.
Of course following the current trend for multiplayer games would be a bad thing.
@Slowdive
That stinks if that's the case, but I completely understand why Nintendo is doing that (for now, at least). That would explain Shuntaro Furukawa's statement from a few months saying that they're looking for "new ways" to share announcements outside of Directs, since the pandemic messed things up for a while. I'm pretty sure that's why they started the Partner Showcases 6 months ago, as communication with other companies has slowed down since the pandemic started. 🤔
Speaking of Partner Showcases, am I the only one who's fine with just having Partner Showcases for a while, and just have Nintendo share announcements on social media, like they've been doing? 🤔
Please give Ninjala a chance, guys. 🤔
As @Sunsy said,
Ninjala Gang FOR LIFE!
Also, if I don't respond to your post within a day (or two), don't worry, I'm not ignoring you. I'm going to be busy, though I will do my best to respond in a timely fashion.

I will be ok with it as long as I feel like I am getting a full game for the $$$$. Sell other characters and skins on the side.
So since normal Directs are pretty much out of the question at this point, when will we get the next partner showcase? Apex Legends is rumored to release on Feb 2nd and so far no official release date. So maybe a partner showcase within the next week?

The day they do that i'll stop buying Nintendo and stick to indies on PC

I won’t mind it as long as you feel like you get $60 worth in the core package. And then I guess as long as the packs/skins add value. I look at how much it is on MK Tour and it’s expensive for junk. I don’t want a game centered on these things.

This. Price discrimination is unacceptable, and Nintendo will deserve to get crushed if they ever do anything like this.
A simple DLC like they did with Splatoon2 and Mario Kart8 is as much as i can tolerate.
Smash ultimate is pushing it too far and i didnt get the game and never will.
If they ever start going like garbage fortnite, fifa and cod, im out.
There’s so much content in Smash ultimate even without the DLC. I think that’s fair. As far MK9, if I have the option to play as different characters or get different skins, it would not bother me as long as the base game includes a fair amount.
