Was the real Mario 3d collection the friends we made along the way?

@Zilock I think there is going to be a direct on friday. One of the insiders did say don't look out for patterns from Nintendo this year.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

Grumblevolcano

Looking back at July, the Treehouse stream also said "July 2020" like the Partner Showcase. Could be Friday is a Treehouse stream having a closer look at Pikmin 3 perhaps (the Paper Mario Treehouse stream was also on a Friday)?

That'd be more likely than another direct this week .... Haven't yet generated any interest in Pikmin 3, myself, so it'd be good to see a bit more about it!

@Grumblevolcano very likely to happen, i believe the upcoming Fall update for Animal Crossing New Horizons will be so big that Nintendo have to divide into two part to add everything then want to add, with part 1 adding the third and final expansion to the Museum adding the Roost vastlyexpanded acting like a real cafeteria/restaurant,Gyriods, Museum Shop and the return of Nintendo themed Furniture and itens expanded with the latest games of this series and the return of the Luck mechanics expanded releasing mid septembre, part 2 of the Fall update would add the Halloween event, the third and final expansion to Nook Cranny, a small update to Nook Cranny and Able Sisters that add a Shopping Cart option and would release late octobre.

If Nintendo keeps following their MO with first party announcements, I'll expect a trailer for the rumored Mario Anniversary collection to drop shortly before it's to be released; No direct, just a trailer. That's what they've been doing with their first party stuff this year.

@Anti-Matter yes because Nintendo refuse to anounce any big games after Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and it seen more likely that Pikmin 3 Deluxe is gonna be the Holiday title of 2020 for Switch, i hope i wrong and Nintendo anounce the rumored 3D Mario Collection is the Holiday title of 2020 for Switch, but given Nintendo refusal to not reveal any big games after Pikmin 3 Deluxe, is more likely this game is the Holiday title of Switch for this year.

Are 3D Mario ports really that much more exciting as a holiday title than Pikmin 3? I really don't think either is exciting.

Harmonie

mariomaster96

@Harmonie not really, sadly 2020 is really lacking completely new games, there have been only 3 new first party games: Animal Crossing, Paper Mario and Clubhouse game
And at this point I don't believe there will be another completely new first party game this year

Honestly, as far as I concerned, no. It feels like Nintendo are being too reliant on the back catalogue than creating new entries in any series as the moment. It is not as if there aren't any old series they could make new games for, such as Wario Land, F-Zero, Pikmin 4 as opposed to 3, Rhythm Heaven, Kid Icarus... but no, Nintendo seems insistent in porting all Wii U games (or any game in general). It makes business sense, but as a Wii U owner, it sucks.

Signature, huh? Where do I sign?

Harmonie

Seriously. The Nintendo Switch has had this problem since day one. I had no reason to get a Switch early on because its big launch title, Breath of the Wild, was a Wii U game, and I had a Wii U to play it on. Every single Switch year has had this problem. Although to be fair, the last half of last year had a fair number of new Nintendo games.

It's just really something to see people clamoring for Mario ports to be the big holiday title. Can the Nintendo Switch not even have a holiday title that is new?

@Harmonie That probably summarizes my biggest problem with the Switch, being that it just seems like it's heavily favoring ports, remasters or remakes of older titles and not enough new content. This goes both ways with first party games like Link's Awakening, XCDE and these rumored Mario remasters in addition to the multiple ports of Wii U titles (which were at least justified by the fact that for a lot of people these games were new to them as they didn't own the console at that time), as well as 7th and 8th gen remasters of games that are well past their period of hype or heyday

Anyone reckon Nintendo will start re-running old Directs?

I actually am so "hungry" for a direct I have been re-watching old ones, and pretending that I'm watching it for the first time.

I'm really desperate if you couldn't tell.

So what will everyone be doing tomorrow when the direct doesn’t happen? Any plans to go for walks in the park, dancing on beach, etc?

I plan to still watch the direct, even if it doesnt happen. Because after all, IT.IS.HAPPENING.

I don't think Pikmin will be the holiday title (it just doesn't have enough mainstream pull), but I'm not sure what it'll be. Probably something with Mario in it though (whether it be the rumored 3D Collection, 3D World port, unannounced sports spinoff like Golf, or something else is certainly up for debate). Paper Mario is the only Mario game so far this year, and in modern history I can't think of a year where they only released one Mario game.

Also, with maybe the exception of 2018 (and this year), there's been a good track record of new exclusives on Switch.

2017 had BotW (releasing day & date with the Wii U version, it's certainly a different case than other Wii U ports), Snipperclips, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, & Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

2018 had Kirby Star Allies, LABO Kit 01, LABO Kit 02, Sushi Striker, Mario Tennis Aces, Bravely Default, LABO Kit 03, Xenoblade 2: Torna (started out as DLC, but grew so big to be standalone), Pokemon LGP/E, Super Mario Party, & Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

2019 had Yoshi's Crafted World, LABO Kit 04, Mario Maker 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina, Luigi's Mansion 3, & Pokemon S/S.

2020 (so far) has had Brain Training (in EU), Animal Crossing, Clubhouse Games, & Paper Mario: the Origami King.

Yes, while it is true that some of these games may fit into a "B Tier" category, or may just not interest you as an individual, it's not like they haven't been releasing new software (also, Link's Awakening & Pokemon Mystery Dungeon could be considered new, as they're completely rebuilt and not a form of port or remaster).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

I'm one of those persons who prefers a good port of a great, established game, over a mediocre or questionable sequel.

That's assuming the sequel is mediocre but in the large part Nintendo normally puts out good sequels.

@Harmonie It's a result of the Switch starting completely from scratch, if you look at the upcoming platforms (PS5 and Series X) the focus of what people want for those are new games and old games that aren't backwards compatible.

Well, practically every person on ResetEra has something wrong with them, so it's sort of understandable that they completely lost it.
