Am I the only one, who thinks that Nintendo is destroying the "Nintendo Direct" brand? Especially with these partner showcases. In the past Nintendo Directs generated lots of hype and excitement, and people talked about them for days after the show. But this year every Direct was more disappointing than the one before. If it continues like this, I'm sure many fans will grow indifferent towards Nintendo Directs. I know I am.
Nah, I think the Direct brand is fine. The problem is that the Nintendo fandom is starved for new game announcements. Folks are borderline in denial over the thought of Pikmin 3 Deluxe being the last first party game release of 2020. So any non-first party Switch game announcement from Nintendo will be met with a copious amount of detest.

@dionysos283 I think these partner showcases are done more out of obligation than anything else. World of Tanks, for example, released today. No point in it being in a Direct later on. However, they would have agreed to feature the game at some point. Games like FUZER will be wanting to talk about it in the context of PS4 too. So they fulfilled the whole 'first look' deal they might have had. Other games available for pre order were likely because they had games ready to go and wanted the pre-order window.
As for Nintendo's games. Well, Mario was obviously going to be a big this year. But the theme park got delayed, the Olympics got cancelled, the movie had to halt production. Their marketing team would be ripping their hair trying to coordinate this year. Their road map got thrown out of the window. But they were transparent saying they would look at different ways of communicating stuff.
It's possible we still see a Direct later. (this is optimism on my part btw). After all, big third party games like Doom Eternal, No More Heroes 3 and Bayonetta 3 are very Switch focused, and can fit into a Direct better because we have no date. I'm sure there is other stuff we don't know about too. But the question is, are Nintendo able to make a Direct yet? Is now the right time to release a Mario game (bearing in mind even that is a rumour lol) or do they wait / hope other stuff gets finished too. lot's of unknowns, and it's not just on 'are the games ready?' or 'do they not have anything to show?'. Of course they do. But like I said, I get the feeling this year had tons of Mario stuff planned. And Covid has messed it all up.
@dionysos283
Games are always very subjective.
What games are bad for you might be great for other peoples.
What is disappointing for one people might be very satisfying for other peoples.
@dionysos283 I think they should stop branding the Partner Showcases under the Direct banner, but just a normal general Direct will still get hype levels through the roof.
