@Dezzy
But if they are collecting for a larger Direct, why then did they do the partners showcase 2 weeks ago? SMT could very well have been announced in a general Direct, but didn't.
If we do get a Direct in August, it will be Mario Direct, I think.

The partner showcase had a whole lot of nothing, except for SMTV (which is itself a very niche series). My assumption was that they did that to clear room for the bigger stuff later on. Same way they do with the Nindies. They don't want to neglect it, but they also don't want it taking up the prime real estate.
If they are delaying for a bigger Direct, maybe about a month from now, it will obviously contain some of their bigger stuff, like Bayonetta 3, and maybe another Zelda trailer, maybe a Prime 4 preview? So the smaller third party stuff would just be hogging the space (given that they can't really do Directs much longer than 45 minutes without people tuning out)
I think we'll get another 3rd party Partner Showcase next week which includes stuff like Bravely Default II and DOOM Eternal. Then Nintendo goes silent until early September (a full Direct around the same time as the usual full September Direct) while Sony and Microsoft continue to play chicken over price reveal.
@Grumblevolcano I'd thing BD II is going to come out late September if it shows up next week. Otherwise, I think they'd hold it until the big direct considering it's probably the biggest non-port title of the holiday.
But yeah, between Doom Eternal, Digimon Survive, Apex Legends, Disco Elysium (which I think will certainly feature at some point before launch), Gods & Monsters, Kingdom Hearts, No More Heroes III, Rivals of Aether, Rune Factory 5, Stanley Parable, and Ys Origin (and certainly more I forget), there's easily enough games coming this year to keep them having these once a month up through November.
@Dezzy Probably because of the shadow drops. If Cadence of Hyrule DLC and Rogue Company had presence in the originally planned Nintendo E3 2020 Direct, the cancellation of E3 meant the latest the replacement Direct segments had to be was July 20th (the release date of the content).
I'd guess if there is another 3rd party Partner Showcase next week, there'll be some content that is a shadow drop.
Can we go back to the time where we all played games, and got hyped when Nintendo announced a Direct? I love them as much as the next person, but this is an inane waste of time and, well, not good for mental health, quite frankly.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@Slowdive While King Zell was right many times in the past he also claimed that the direct at july 20th would be heavily focused on the mario franchise (but would also show other games) and we know how that "direct" turned out...
@GrailUK Normally I’d agree and while I still don’t expect anything major from Nintendo this year, you have to remember that this is the first time on the Switch, a really successful system, when we haven’t known anything about Nintendo’s plans so late into the year. So people do have the right to question and speculate.

King Zell is/was a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD guy, and news from Nintendo is guaranteed because they're publishing their Q1 report and bestsellers list next week.
