@johnvboy To be fair, major 3rd parties help keep that steady stream as well. August is an incredibly slow month for 3rd parties, and we still have Captain Tsubasa, Jump Force and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. On average, I'd say we're seeing at least one big name third party game per week during the late spring / summer, and 3-4 per week during the holidays. Even though it drops to about 2-3 a month during the winter / early spring, there's basically always something from a notable publisher releasing on the Switch, indies aside.
It's certainly a stark difference from the Wii U at least.
@johnvboy If games were slightly delayed I would have expected a slight direct delay. Instead were two and a half months past E3 with a sad 8 minute mini. I'm considering an August direct more than a slight delay but slight is subjective to everyone.
There is third party output but that's to be expected with a console that has 55 million units out there, my issue is with the titles being released, as for the most part they are games already released on other machines, then the developer complains about the lack of sales, there was a chance to buck this trend by releasing "Doom Eternal" alongside the other versions, at least this would have given a better indication on haw big triple AAA titles do on the format.

It's a tough one as with the exception of the E3 showcase Nintendo have no set times for their directs, so we do not really know how long a delay has been, although a full on direct has been a long time coming.

I thin we will get a port of "Pikmin 3" before anything else, the games as good as they are have never been massive sellers, although with the Switch's big software sales ratio there is the potential to have the best sales in the franchises history.

If this article is correct and PS5 is only going to last 5 years. And Nintendo is claiming its system is only half way through its life so we have 3 more years of the switch we might have a real problem. Nintendo will again be close to two generations behind even after they release their switch 2. In fact the Nintendo would be further behind then the switch was at its launch. But sure let's hope we're only experiencing a slight delay.
@sixrings I seriously doubt Sony is going to only have the PS5 on sale for 5 years and there is no way they could sell more consoles than the PS4 in 5 years either. Has any major gaming publication hinted at this? Because if its only this site then that just adds more weight into not believing it.
Regards to Nintendo saying the Switch is half way through its life, that doesn't mean that a successor can be released before the Switch meets the end of the apparent life. All it means is that Nintendo plan to keep it around for at least 4 more years much like how the 3DS was kept going when the Switch was out on the market.

@sixrings Mid gen refreshes are what allow longer system lifespans so if PS5 doesn't have a Pro version in like 2022/2023 I could easily see PS6 being 2025.

I'm not sure Nintendo would be that worried? With regard to the Switch 2, I think Nintendo should be aiming for a rock solid 1080p 60 FPS for a graphically intense game. If they delivered that I think the Nintendo audience would be happy.
How much more realistic can the Playstation go? It's not just about how powerful the console or PC is, but the cost of developing the game, a AAA title with amazing 4k graphics won't be cheap, it will only be the top studios who can afford that level of graphical fidelity.
@FragRed keeping the 3DS alive was a mistake and wasted games such as the 2D metroid, Mario and Luigi remake, and Luigi mansion remastered. I hope that does not happen again.
@sixrings In hindsight it was a mistake but at the time it was probably seen as a smart business move. I do think that once they knew the Switch was a success after the first year, all resources should have been immediately moved into the Switch and any 3DS game still in development ported over (even though doing so would have added to development time). That was a mistake to continue the support after the Switch’s first year. But 2D Metroid on 3DS definitely was a business decision that they obviously believed that was the right platform though I don’t know why it was never ported to the Switch when they saw the sales of the system.

@FragRed I wouldn't have bought Mario and Luigi but I definitely would have purchased metroid and Luigi. Instead I sold my two 3DS to buy my first switch.
@sixrings Ignoring the legitimacy of the 5 years bit, you need to remember: Generations are meaningless distinctions we just use to make talking about consoles easier.
If the PS6 comes out in 5 years after the PS5, and the Switch is only 2 years old, then the technology in the Switch will only be 2 years behind the PS5. Considering how mobile technology's growth is still well ahead of non-mobile, the gap between the two in power will likely be similar to that between the Switch and PS4.
In other words, it's the age of the technology that's important, not the generation.
Yeah, safe to say around 2017 is when these early PS5 games started development. So that kinda lines up. Just can't see next gen lasting only 5 years.... That just seems crazy short to me.
If Sony and Microsoft do a mid generation upgrade again, what will Microsoft call the Xbox? Xbox Series X X? X X X? X Y? S X? They really are crap at names. Never simple.
