@VoidofLight Obviously, I'd love for that too. I'm just trying to keep expectations in check, considering this is Nintendo we're talking about here. Would love to be proven wrong.

I'm fairly confident in a February direct, but then again I felt the same way in September :/
Although I think we're in a much better position for one now.
No Nintendo Direct announced today (at least in the expected time range), so that most likely means there won't be one tomorrow. It's possible to happen on Thursday, but it's hard to say.

@PikminMarioKirby Kinda surprised Nintendo didn’t use the same date as their financials to announce the last date Direct for Switch and use it to keep everyone happy. Rumours circulated Nintendo have been persuading third party publishers to get games ported over to the system to fill out the release schedule in the run up to Switch 2.

@Grumblevolcano@PikminMarioKirby The only possibility I see for one happening tomorrow is if it’s a Mini Direct. Talk about one or two first parties but have a lot of third party games to fill out the schedule

@Grumblevolcano Usually that hour is the last possible hour for a Direct announcement (even though it's extremely rare and usually for smaller Directs), so it'd be during the Capcom event that a Nintendo Direct would be revealed (or rather, as soon as it starts) So I kind of doubt that they would do that. A Thursday Direct is still possible, but it doesn't feel like it lines up with the maintenances like it usually does.
Also, NoA already tweeted today, so that also makes it feel less likely.
@FragRed A lot of times the February Directs are the week of or week after the investor meeting. Would've been nice to get some sort of announcement from the investor meeting but sadly we didn't. I don't think it'd hurt them too much to have it a bit later though.

I’m hoping for next Wednesday now. Not that Wednesday has to always be the end all, be all, but it’s still the most reliable weekday in February. The 12th is perfectly in the middle of the month, too.
@FishyS I’m not expecting a general Direct. I think whatever is shown will be almost entirely third party, assuming Nintendo has anything to reveal at all. I think Nintendo are going to stay quiet on a new announcement front until 2nd April.

@FragRed If it were a general direct I feel like it would be a less hype one simply to fill out the schedule — buncha third party games, maybe smaller Nintendo Switch 1 games or ports for February, April, May, maybe Pikmin 4 DLC or something. Basically things made for Switch 1 which they don't think are major enough to have in the Switch 2 direct.
But last year they had a first party game and NSO information in a partner showcase and also twitter-announced games so they may go that route again instead. In which case the 'direct the week after financial meeting' pattern doesn't really apply.
I'm torn between February 6th and next week at this point for when the Direct airs. There wasn't a Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered trailer for February 4th and Tuesday is trailer day so I could see an outcome where a trailer was saved for a Direct later on in the week.
February 5th seems out of the question for any kind of Direct considering even the 2022 and 2024 Partner Showcases were announced in advance.
However February 6th is Take Two earnings day which could mean the long GTA6 silence comes to an end. At the very least Take Two would provide an update on whether the game is delayed or still on track for Fall 2025. Seems risky to do a Direct that day which makes it seem like Nintendo would pick next week for a Direct instead.

That's more the type of stuff I'd expect to see in a Direct Mini or Partner Showcase more than a general Direct, which is why I've been skeptical about the idea of us getting a Switch 1 focused general Direct this month. When they announce a general Direct, I expect a minimum of two pretty major reveals as the first game shown and the 'one last thing' otherwise it's just a terrible Direct that wasn't worth having and it's hard to see that happening for Switch 1 now with all Nintendo's focus presumably on Switch 2.
@BenAV Whether they call it a mini or something else, I could certainly imagine a 20 minute direct rather than 40 minutes. The only real reason to think anything is happening is that there are almost certainly both first and third party games coming out before Switch 2 which need to be announced somewhere so either we get something vaguely direct-formated or we get multiple small events and announcements. People are mainly thinking direct because of supposed leaks but similar leaks were completely wrong in February last year so who knows really.
@BenAV They did use TotK multiple times as the Direct closer (June 2019, June 2021, September 2022 and February 2023) so they could have Prime 4 be the closer again.
