@Grumblevolcano If Nintendo don’t reveal Switch 2 games in the Switch 2 Direct, not only will there be significant backlash, it will also cause a flood of negative media articles. It’s literally setting themselves up for months of pure negativity and there’s one thing which has been proved time after time is that once that starts, it’s incredibly difficult to turn around. Just look at Xbox as a great example of that. They never recovered from the disastrous Xbox One launch fiasco.

@Grumblevolcano There's absolutely nothing stopping them from announcing Switch 1 software this week and then announcing Switch 2 software next week.
Them launching Switch 1 games over the next couple months also does not necessarily mean that Switch 2 is launching later either. Switch 2 could launch in late May and they could still have Planet Robobot on Switch 1 in early May.
@FragRed Xbox One launch didn’t have a Mario Kart or major in house IP. I agree that Nintendo could hurt their image if they hold back on their first party content when showcasing their new system, but they have a track record of recognizing their IP value as new hardware is close to release and will unveil at least a few to drive interest for the Switch 2 launch. They’re very likely looking back on their Switch Direct as an example of what to build on and how they can exceed even that as a launch for Switch 2. I wouldn’t worry about lack of those games showing in April Direct we should be eating well. Good stuff will be there.
@FragRed Nintendo hasn't promised games for the Switch 2 Direct yet so technically it would be no different from when some people get upset because Silksong doesn't appear in an Indie World presentation.
But to be honest, I think it's more likely the Switch 1 Direct isn't real and we see a repeat of what happened in February. They make a social media post saying more details about the Switch 2 Direct like how long it is.
@Grumblevolcano That I totally agree with. Either tomorrow or Thursday there’ll be a post revealing more about time length of the Direct next week and a gentle reminder of its existence. I dunno if they’ll post anything saying what to expect specifically but I’d hope they say something.
You are right of course, Nintendo never promised games next week but given the whole idea is to showcase what it can do, Switch 2 only games is the best way to achieve that from a power point of view. Plus I doubt third party publishers would be very happy if they found themselves waiting until June before they can start revealing what they have lined up.

Apparently now Nate the hate is reporting as well that there will be a direct on Thursday, which definitely adds a little credibility to the rumor. Though apparently he doesn't know what type it is, which means it could be and Indie World or partner showcase or something. I'm still kind of skeptical about this though, mainly because Nintendo doesn't really do presentations this close together.
@Grumblevolcano Mario Kart 9 is 100% not going to run on Switch 1. Especially seeing how detailed the courses are for something that looks so wide and open.
I genuinely can't see why Nintendo wouldn't just do a small partner showcase or direct mini that shows some of the Switch 1 games (not big announcements, small stuff like remasters, remakes, or smaller titles like Tomodachi Life), and have the larger announcements be the Switch 2 stuff. I don't really get why they have to show anything big in a pre-switch 2 Nintendo direct?
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
Yeah I think it's just an Indie World. Or maybe another Indie World + Partner Showcase combo. But if this rumors is true, I don't think any 1st party stuff will be here. I think any Switch 1 1st party stuff is either getting a Twitter drop, or not being announced until at least June. Right now they're gearing up for Switch 2. If they had any filler titles in between, January/February would've been the time for that. But they stayed silent. So I think they have nothing until Switch 2 launch.
@VoidofLight If the Switch 2 Direct was full of game announcements, why would you do a Switch 1 Direct this week rather than earlier in the year? That's the part I don't understand.
No Switch 1 Direct this week makes the most sense to me.

No idea why not earlier in the year, I've given up trying to make sense of Nintendo timing lately, but I think it's fairly obvious why you might want two Directs. Switch is not Switch 2. There's value in splitting up presentations so that you can set expectations and keep people engaged.
Think of it like this, look at the early 2017 presentations and Directs. Just the first two main ones. The Switch Presentation in January and the 3DS focused Direct in April. The first was about an hour, the second about 35mins. Ignoring that the 3DS focused one was second and the couple of months between them.... would they have worked as one singular 90min presentation? I would think not. The same is true now
FWIW I think there might well be a Direct this week. But my expectation is that it's going to be about changes to NSO and related busy work kind of stuffs

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
If anything is happening tomorrow we should hear something in the next 2 or 3 hours. I’m skeptical it’s gonna be anything more than an Indie Direct and judging by how those have been lately, I’m not expecting anything great from them.

@FawfulsFury Have a horrible feeling it’s gonna be one of those feature creep situations where they just keep adding more and more ideas to the game and become overwhelmed and unable to create a decent game within a budget. Kinda like how Sports Story ended up.

@FragRed honestly this is how I’ve been feeling for the past couple years. I’m sure the game will be good, but development times this long can be both a blessing and a curse, since it’s easy to lose sight of that original vision. At least for Deltarune, Toby and his team can focus on individual chapters at a time while still considering the rest of the game
