With rumors swirling around Next Level games working on a remaster, has anyone thought we might be getting a Metroid Prime: Federation Force remaster, especially since they developed the original one?
I never thought I'd say this, but I think we just need to let the older 3D Zeldas alone. We don't need to remake everything.
Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Ocarina - they're all fantastic games, and honestly, they hold up really well, even when you're not playing the HD versions on 3DS and Wii U. Gameplay is still solid, graphics even for Ocarina on NSO are still good. We need to stop beating the dead horse.
I'd rather a brand-new Zelda game, even a small spinoff.

I highly disagree. Ocarina and Majora have issues with FPS that make them hard to play. Wind Waker is good enough as is, since it needed barely any visual touch-ups and has QoL features in it's remaster. Twilight Princess though? That game needs a full on Remake. The original aged poorly given the visual style- and the HD version doesn't really do anything to help that, other than redrawing textures. They didn't do anything QoL-wise, and the music is made to be orchestrated- yet still uses midi.
If anything, I'd argue that Twilight Princess outright needs a proper remake done from the ground up like how The Thousand Year Door just got. That has re-orchestrated music and redone visuals, with the animations being touched up to prevent the weird shakiness that the original game's animations had.

I agree for the N64 titles somewhat because they're on NSO. But the GC titles aren't available on any current platforms and have never been on a portable system. If they were to put GC on NSO? Sure. But we don't so the only way to play these games is either through emulation or on old hardware
Plus Metroid Prime and TTYD have shown how far titles from that era can be pushed graphically. Surely the crown jewels in the GC library deserve the same treatment

This is new, someone outright says the direct date is the 11th instead of guessing a random week in June. Makes sense, since Nintendo does like Tuesday directs
@TheBigBlue I thought the Tuesday directs tend to be not-general-directs.There certainly hasn't been a Tuesday general direct recently. If it is that soon, I would expect Pyoro to chime in this week though so I guess we'll see.
@FishyS I feel like Directs were on Tuesdays during E3 when the last day of the event was Tuesday, when Wednesday/Thursday weren’t really an option.
I didn’t really care about Nintendo Directs that much until a few years ago, so I can’t for sure confirm that it was always on a Tuesday. But E3 was the last time I remember a normal Direct being on a Tuesday
Xbox used the Partner Showcase to announce their multiplatform plans back in February, if their strategy is still just select titles they may do the same thing (announce stuff for Xbox in the Xbox showcase and then the multiplatform stuff in the Direct)
Back in 2022/2023 during June, Xbox embargoed 3rd parties from announcing PS/Switch versions of certain multiplatform releases for a certain amount of time after the announcement of PC/Xbox versions (e.g. anything by Atlus). If the Xbox multiplatform strategy is pretty much everything can happen, they likely wouldn't bother with embargoes of 3rd party games and so a Direct can be close by with those 3rd party games
In the latter case, the Xbox 1st party games may still be announced for Switch in the Direct rather than the Xbox showcase.
@Grumblevolcano Just because they announced Grounded and Pentiment through the Partner Showcase doesn't mean they'll use Nintendo Directs for everything, especially when there's a high probability that none of the 1st party games shown in the Xbox Showcase are coming to the current Switch.
Most likely they'll just reveal the games as titles from their 1st party studios without any mention of exclusivity while at the same time not mention PlayStation or Nintendo in the Showcase, even for Black Ops 6. Then in the press releases and social media posts is where additional platforms outside of Xbox/PC will be confirmed.
We'll have to wait for Switch 2 to be revealed before the Nintendo versions are revealed.

I disagree - gotta move forward. Nintendo doesn't need to keep revamping their old stuff. They do enough remakes already, and even their new games usually contain tons of gameplay mechanics that are reminiscent if not straight-up copied from previous titles in their series.
And specifically with these Zelda titles everyone keeps harping on, the games indeed hold up really well, you just can't go in wanting 60fps at HD resolutions - that's not a realistic ask of an old game. The games themselves, gameplay/mechanics, are absolutely still tight.
Retro gaming exists for a reason. Grab a used 3DS for under a hundred bucks and you can play the Ocarina remake. Grab a used Wii U for around 100 bucks and play Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. If Nintendo does indeed remake them or remaster them, you're gonna pay 60 or 70 bucks for them anyway.
@rallydefault My argument isn't that you can't play the originals. My argument is that not all the originals stand up like you're saying. In no world can you convince me that Twilight Princess HD is an acceptable re-release of the original game. That the music for Twilight Princess doesn't deserve an actual full orchestra instead of being midi, or that the animations and art style of the game aged well.
Remaking this game doesn't take away from the development of future Zelda titles either. It isn't like they'd stick the main team onto a Twilight Princess remake. The main team would be working on a brand new Zelda that probably won't come out for six more years anyways. 2D Zelda is pretty much dead outside of remakes, and even if we got that- it wouldn't be the same team that makes remakes making a new 2D game either.
You're acting like Nintendo can either only move towards the future or stay in the past, when they're fully capable of doing both.
Also used 3DS consoles aren't "Under a hundred bucks." Most cost an arm and a leg to get ahold of used now, due to how the system is no longer in production. You can't buy a Wii U anymore for cheap either, given the system barely had an install base and used systems are going to cost an arm and a leg due to no longer being in production.

@IceClimbers Remasters or collections of Xbox/Xbox 360 games would likely run on the current Switch. So like if something came of those Fallout 3 and Oblivion remasters, those would likely be Switch games. In the case of exclusives that could fit that, MCC and a Gears collection come to mind as the big ones.

Again, 3DS is also 240p and Wii U isn't portable. Frankly I have OoT on 3DS, Wii VC, Wii U VC and NSO and of all of those options if I was to play it again it'd be via one of those decompilation projects.... then NSO.... then 3DS...
Wind Waker and Twilight Princess? The Wii U remakes are the best way to officially play them but they're not portable. Right now, IMO, the best way to play those games is through emulation on something like a Steam Deck. And for Wind Waker I wouldn't blame you for picking the GC original and running it at high res with to get rid of that bloom effect the Wii U version had. But the point is the best way to play these now is an open question with all roads leading you to not giving Nintendo money
Meanwhile Skyward Sword? There's no such quandary. The Switch version is well done and convenient. And that fact is even more true for something like TTYD or Metroid Prime. Which is, frankly, a good thing from Nintendo's perspective because that version is still available for purchase
I'm just not gonna believe anything until it's officially announced, it was like that with the Switch Pro/2 for the last 5 years or something. You know, that Switch successor that was supposed to launch years ago and delayed till next year, for...like...the last multiple years? xD (at least Nintendo finally said something so now we know it's being revealed)
As for this Direct, I don't know what to believe (well, besides what Nintendo said and no Switch 2)...just gonna hope Metroid Prime 2 Remastered is revealed, and then releases on the same day. Only game that is most likely going to happen for me.
Still hoping for Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven, though...but I doubt it.

I personally think one of the HD Zelda remasters is a safer bet than Prime 2. Mostly because some of the leaks pre Prime Remastered talked about it but not Prime 2. The story being that Retro had been tasked with 4 as a result of Nintendo being impressed with their work on the remaster of 1. Of course that was a long while ago so anything could've happened since but.... I'd imagine 4 has been a bit of a time sink
But the Zelda HD Remasters? Those already exist on Wii U. Of course they could be pushed further but in terms of minimum viable product It already exists and just needed to be ported
I think if we see something Metroid this year, IMO, it could just as easily be something like a remaster of Samus Returns via or something. I see something like that about as probable as Prime 2
