@FishyS Yeah, but the internet is full of morons. If all they have to rage about is the timing of a console, then they aren't doing so bad.
There is the valid point of Nintendo stringing us along. Technically they only said they are announcing it. What if Nintendo announced it in March 2025 for a 2027 release? 😛 They won't, but people would be (validly) annoyed in the exact same way.

Gamecube will definitely come to NSO in the future. They're gonna take that puppy all the way up through Wii U eventually. And it's not a mutually exclusive thing when Gamecube titles do come out on NSO - they can still keep "mining" that era for remasters. Didn't stop them with Link's Awakening, did it? Or Mario 64? You know they'll do it, so let's not act like putting an era on NSO means they won't also remaster some of the games that are literally already available through the service or will be available shortly.
As per the Zelda titles, we will see. We will see.
@FishyS How is it stringing us along? It's nice they acknowledged it. But it's abundently clear that only a fool thinks it's now the thing they want us to focus on...
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK Honestly it might just come down to when Nintendo thinks they will finish the Switch 2 release games. I'm not totally convinced they haven't announced the date yet because they haven't decided yet 😆
@rallydefault
3D All Stars was 2020 and Link's Awakening HD was 2019. N64 was added to NSO in 2021 and GB was added in 2023. Yes these games are on both but the full retail release had a fair amount of breathing room before NSO came along
Now I don't really buy into the belief some have that NSO canabalises entirely the value of ports like this. I would gladly still pick up a port of Samus Returns on Switch even though GB is on NSO for example. And I certainly feel the same way about Links Awakening, TTYD, Super Mario RPG and Prime. But it would do some devaluing, especially for lighter reworkings, and generally they've been fairly careful about not reducing the value of remasters by putting them on NSO first. Super Mario RPG isn't on NSO for example
I expect GC and Wii will end up on NSO eventually if it's even still called that at that point. But I don't think that future means we won't see remakes of the GC Zelda games. If anything the idea that it might eventually happens puts a bit of an end point to the window where a proper remaster would still move millions
@skywake
There is some spread there, absolutely, but my point remains: it's not a mutually exclusive thing. They have and will continue to make games available for "free" on NSO and still remaster/remake them for full-price releases. So far they've spaced the releases a year or more apart, but who knows what the future may bring? Most tellingly, you can't say Nintendo didn't know they were putting Mario 64 on NSO WHILE they were developing and then releasing Mario 3D All Stars. Even with the larger gap with the Link's Awakening remake, I would have serious misgivings about anyone who would try to argue Nintendo had no clue they'd be putting Gameboy games and Link's Awakening specifically on NSO down the line.
So, my simple observation remains: NSO "versus" remaster/remake is not a mutually exclusive thing.
I'm really making your point, though lol. I should be arguing that we're not getting WW and TP remasters because Gamecube games are definitely coming to NSO in the future, and of course those two games will be available with it. So, under my logic, we very well may still get second remasters of those games.
I just think it would be an incredibly silly waste of their resources. The HD remasters of both games ARE fantastic - the gameplay is what matters the most, not the textures on the castle walls. This has been true for every Nintendo game ever. The games hold up and don't need second remasters. We're not getting second remasters.
@Novamii I'm mixed. On the one hand they haven't put enough on it for me to want the service at all. So I would prefer expansion pass simply died. But to make it actually worth getting to me, they would have to put a ton on. A zillion DS games would be a good start, although that might depend on what Switch 2 does.
I've said this before, but I either won't get expansion pack or I will get it for 10 years to not lose the games. So they have to add enough that I would be happy to pay hundreds of dollars for the service.
Honestly, I think they should do more with game trials. Or if you got better vouchers in expansion pass I would be much more interested (e.g. if I could buy the $50 games like Mario vs DK for $40). Letting you pick a free indie or smaller game occasionally to just own would also be something which would tempt me more.

I don't think they're really stringing us along. I think the reason that they only said it would be announced this fiscal year is because they're not sure when it's going to be ready so they're giving themselves some leeway. I think they are planning for a Fall reveal and Spring release, but if they run into (more) issues and need to delay it further? They could reveal it in March and release it Holiday 2025 and they still won't have lied to us.
Just for the fun of it, what are some things you all would like to see added to NSO+EP? Furthermore, what sorts of additions do you think they'll add to it on Switch 2? (That is, if at all. There's always the possibility of...eugh...adding another tier.) What sorts of things would add value to the pack for you?
Okay the EP is really poor value at $50. They either need to drop the price (which they probably won't) or add some newer consoles to that tier. Definitely GC, maybe even Wii.
Hoosha...!
I have watched Wholesome Direct 2024 and it was way.... Much Better to watch than Summer Games Fest that gave me nothing.
I have written more than 10 games announced that I might consider.
Here is the games that I have interest about / have curiosity.
Caravan Sand Witch
Discounty
Squeakross
Critter Cafe 😃
Littlelands
Minami Lane
Rolling Hills 😃
On Your Tail
Petit Island 😃
Albatros
Magical Bakery
Letter Bunny
Dragon Shelter
Map Map
Gatto Post Office
The games that I put 😃 emoji are the games that I like the most.
The Wholesome Direct 2024 was good despite there were also some games were not really interesting for me from the graphic aspect and the gameplay aspect.
Overall, I gave the score for Wholesome Direct 2024 = 7 from 10.
Btw, I know a lot of indie games announced from Wholesome Direct are mostly on Steam, but later those games will have console version (not every games).
