Somewhat off tangent but there was an article yesterday about Sumner Games Fest: https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/a61006534/summer-game-f... which gave details of the price developers pay to be featured at Summer Games Fest:

"According to pricing details shared with me by multiple marketing professionals who requested anonymity, running a trailer during Summer Game Fest’s main show this year cost $250,000 for one minute, $350,000 for one and a half minutes, $450,000 for two minutes, and $550,000 for two and a half minutes. They also say that last year’s edition of the Game Awards featured the same pricing tiers."

Can't be sure for certain whether these figures are accurate if course. I wonder whether third parties have pay a similar amount to feature in a Nintendo Direct? Not sure what the viewing figures are in comparison between the two 'events'.

So far as I'm aware, participation in a Nintendo Direct is basically free for the publisher. They have to pay for the production of their trailer, make a pitch to Nintendo for inclusion, get accepted, and that's about it.

However, they're already paying a significant royalty to Nintendo for every game sold on the Switch, so it very much works to their advantage to feature games that might prove popular.

@OctolingKing13 Often the Friday before a direct. If we don't get something later today, I am assuming next week is less likely.

@FishyS For reference, do you remember when Pyoro started leaking the June 2023, September 2023, and Partner February 2024 Directs? Were they all the Friday before?

MarioKirbyPikmin?

FishyS

@PikminMarioKirby The last 2 were on Friday. The really infamous 'leak everything 'Pyoro June 2023 tweet was on Monday, but not actually sure if the existence of the direct was before that because Pyoro was less famous at the time.

Why some peoples really anxious with the date of Nintendo Direct in June 2024 ?
We will get the date eventually but when is gonna happen, don't think too much.
Just play your games while waiting for the date of Nintendo Direct.

@FishyS Oh thanks! I’d assume it’d be Friday and at the absolute latest on Monday (if it is this week). So here’s hoping that we hear from Pyoro soon! Not sure if there’s a specific time during the day that Pyoro usually leaks.

lol dude you wanna get into a conversation about Nintendo and "low hanging fruit"? Come on, you've been around the block to know how ridiculous that statement is.

If Nintendo wants to slap WW HD and TP HD on the Switch, more power to them. But if they waste any time doing yet another remaster pass on either of those titles, it would be such a dumb allocation of resources.

GrailUK

@rallydefault They are going to have to put some resources into the games. The Switch doesn't have a second screen for starters so some of that code will need reworking.. And it wouldn't be outlandish to assume Nintendo would make some other qol tweaks while they are at it. I still don't get why folk think TP and WW are some sort of natural fit for a twin pack. I personally find it a bit janky.

I hope we get Wind Waker over Twilight Princess personally. The former deserves to release to a bigger audience. GameCube and Wii U are it's only official releases.

@Bolt_Strike I mean there's a remaster of The Last of Us Part II despite the PS4 version being perfectly playable on PS5. Nothing surprises me anymore.

@skywake The rumor regarding Prime, if I recall correctly, is that Prime was getting an extensive remaster (which turned out true), and that Prime 2 and 3 are also in the works but aren't getting more than an HD upscale (and some control reworks for 3).

We then got simple HD ports of Pikmin 1+2 a few months. It stands to reason that Prime 2 and 3 are coming in the same vein.

I'm not anxious, but I do like to know the schedule a few days before if possible because then I may be able to re-arrange my work schedule and watch it live. Most of the time the directs happen while I am at work and I don't get to watch them until hours later.

So LEGO Horizon Adventures got announced for Switch at Summer Game Fest. Maybe the Direct has something like Sackboy?

@Novamii I feel like they will simply bring back 3D all-stars at some point. And then Galaxy 2 will either be stand-alone, DLC, or part of 3D all-stars 2 along with 3D land. If Switch 2 wasn't releasing next year, I would have guessed that would all happen next year for Mario 40th anniversary but since we expect a new 3D Mario next year, who knows.

Was NOT expecting a Switch release for Lego Horizon.

Anyways, Civilization VII confirmed for 2025, and yes it's coming to Switch.

Well SGF kind of fell off a cliff near the end but otherwise? Yeah a shockingly excellent showing this year; tons of very cool games (Power Rangers and SF6/Garou 2 being my personal highlights), Innersloth's new publishing label sounds brilliant and the whole show had a shocking lack of Keighley waffling save the end. That Inside Out 2 trailer felt completely pointless and that live-action mobile game ad was agonising but yeah: a surprisingly great night-in, 8/10.

Sounds like it was the best SGF I didn't bother to actually see.

Skyward Sword HD was handed to Tantalus and, as I understand it, was like Super Mario Galaxy in that it was a port of the original code to run on ARM with the graphics being emulated. There was enough headroom to run the game at full 1080p/60fps. They then additionally ran the original Wii textures through an AI upscale, updated the controls and made some minor QoL improvements. It sold over 4million copies

So there's no doubt in my mind that the other two Wii/GC era Zelda games are the definition of low hanging fruit. They could, with very little development effort, improve the asset quality of Twilight Princess in particular. Then additionally, for both, they could properly orchestrate the soundtracks. Lastly, these are not demanding titles, they could push them to 60fps on Switch. They could hand these two someone like a Tantalus with someone giving a bit of oversight. I have no doubt in my mind that such a release would move multiple millions of units

Of course, they could also do a minimal effort release and get a similar effect but, as @GrailUK said, there isn't a big red button that says "make Wii U game run on Switch". They would be putting some effort into such a release regardless. And it stands to reason that there would be more reward for effort on a console that has moved ~140mill units and is about to get replaced by something with potentially full BC than there was for the last year of a dead end platform with ~13mill units sold
