With E3 right around the corner, anticipation is running wild. Many are hoping that we'll finally see Retro's project this year, and that this new project will be a new IP. That got me thinking: if Nintendo were to announce a new IP at this year's E3, what would you want it to be?
I'd hope for a specifically Western-style game, like an open-world RPG or survival game. I feel that that's a severely lacking genre on Switch right now. We've got a few Western third party titles (Skyrim, DOOM) but we don't really have any exclusives that specifically cater to that market, aside from perhaps BotW. I think that having a Western-style exclusive would help Switch appeal to the wider "hardcore" gamer market, in addition to the more family/casual gamers already won over by Mario and Splatoon.
Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.
I hope there will be a New Girlie / Fashion games for Nintendo Switch.
Style Savvy, Nicola Kanshu, Imagine series (again), whatever, as long good enough to play.
And a Cartoonish Boxing games like Animal Boxing from NDS is very Welcome for me.
i think will see some sorts of a new ip on Switch soon.
My Top 9 Favorite Games of All time.
1. Judgement
2. Baldur's Gate 3
3. Bully (Rockstar)
4. Person 4 / Golden
5. Sonic Adventure 2
6. Xenoblade X
7. Ape Escape 2
8. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
9. James Bond 007 Nightfire
It is always a gamble with entirely new IPs. Splatoon was an overwhelming success, especially in Japan. But Arms - though far from a failure - didn't come close to the same level of popularity.
Since a new IP could really be almost anything, I am gonna say I want some kind of builder/civilization/city sim style game. More than Animal Crossing New Leaf but less that Cities Skylines. A game where I can build a town or base or something from the ground up - invite people to it, develop it into something great. Kind of like Stardew Valley, but with a lot more freedom beyond farming.

I think Nintendo lacks a truly killer RPG series. I know Xenoblade is there, but let's be honest. It's no Final Fantasy or Shin Megami Tensei. Earthbound had potential, but that's not going to happen. A brand new RPG series from Nintendo would be cool to see.
This might be foolish of me, but I'm putting a lot of hope in Retro Studio's next game. I'm really hoping it's going to be a brand new IP that speaks to me.
I don't need new IPs - I rather would like to have a new Kid Icarus game, a new 2D Mario game, new Mario Kart, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, new Castlevania, ... but I also like to be surprised.
@NotAceAttorney I wholeheartedly agree. Xenoblade is great, but Nintendo needs an indisputably great RPG that isn't hampered by overcomplicated mechanics and overall niche style, something that everyone will be able to enjoy regardless of their JRPG experience. Also, I think that Nintendo is relatively lacking in terms of narrative-driven games, so a big new RPG would fill that gap pretty nicely.
Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.
I'm not one for new IPs... The only new franchise I want to see come to gaming altogether is a competitor to The Sims (especially since the franchise was recently pretty much declared dead). However, I'd much rather see that on PC than bound to consoles, since The Sims is what it is largely because of modding and custom content. So, this is not in Nintendo's realm.
I'd rather see Nintendo focus on franchises they already have. Animal Crossing. Reinvigorate Pokemon. Bring back Golden Sun. Bring back Paper Mario to its N64/GCN glory.
Stuff like ARMS and Splatoon has never caught my interest. Although I do respect Splatoon and what Nintendo did with it.
@Harmonie
How about this ?
A combination of Animal Crossing + The Sims + Portal Knights / Dragon Quest Builder , so we can build our Kingdom with Animal Crossing villagers, furnishing and Usable furnitures like The Sims, shaping the World like Portal Knights / Dragon Quest Builder.
While I highly doubt it would ever happen, I would love to see a new racing ip from Nintendo. Not a full on sim like Forza or Gran Turismo, more "simcade" like Horizon, Driveclub NFS etc. Something with real vehicles, tuning, customization and nintendo charm. It's a genre I love that nintendo has never really touched, certainly a pipe dream but I would love it.
@Orin41 Nintendo's been the undisputed king of local multiplayer for a while now with Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, so I agree that it's time for them to create a challenger to Uncharted. Nintendo does have some primarily single-player franchises like Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, and of course Zelda, but we need one that specifically targets the West. The Switch is already dominating Japan, but in order for it to have similar success in the rest of the world it needs a big exclusive to lead the way. It's possible that Metroid Prime 4 can fill this gap, but I think that a new IP would be the best option. Something to further emphasize the whole message of the Switch, that this is a new Nintendo we're dealing with.
Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.
I'd like Retros new IP to be an Indiana Jones/50-70s style exploration adventure. You would be playing a suave sophisticated kinda fella the kind that wears shorts and a moustache without even a hint of irony. You wake up shipwrecked on an island that is free to roam and explore as you attempt to unravel an ancient mystery while fighting an evil organisation. The whole thing would hover between serious and self aware of it's own ridiculousness.
Guessing what type of new IP Nintendo will make is a crapshoot. I mean, they just released a new IP in ARMS.
But what I'd want? Hard to say. I would love an RPG, but Xenoblade already takes care of my first-party RPG cravings. While I would be against avoiding a genre just purely because that genre was already taken (See: Paper Mario and how they removed all the RPG mechanics in Sticker Star/Color Splash), I'd avoid oversaturation of genres. Perhaps an action game as Nintendo's answer to Uncharted? Hell if I know, but regardless I'd be interested right from the start. I just need Nintendo to provide the goods and I'll decide from there.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

You know, ARMS was my target audience for a Boxing / Kickboxing fan.
Maybe some peoples have No interest with Boxing , but for me ARMS was like Oasis in the desert after long times i haven't found any good Boxing games on Nintendo machine after NDS & Wii era.
Maybe it looked weird to see Boxing games with Extended arms like Dhalsim + Weapons equipped, but for me it was a Great Unusual ideas.
That's a tough one, Nintendo seems to have a foot in just about every genre at the moment, so thinking what could be new for them could be quite difficult...For me, I would like a Hero Shooter, I've been tired of Overwatch since forever now, Paladins doesn't do things to much differently and those are the only Hero Shooters currently being played that I can think of.
Other choices could be:
A traditional 2D fighter. ARMS and Pokken are fighters, but you are able to move anywhere in a small arena (minus the dual phase for Pokken)
A Monster Hunter style game sounds like fun. Especially now since Monster Hunter: World isn't on a Nintendo console.
A twin-stick style MOBA, similar to Master X Masters would be nice. Pretty sure they're 0 games like this unless you counted the twin-stick Diablo type games that are not by Nintendo.
A metrovania game. Look how awesome Hollow Knight is, I'm sure Nintendo could do something with the genre.
Whatever you classify Natural Selection 2 as. Pretty sure it's the only game of it's kind, an FPS/Strategy hybrid where one person is essentially playing a Strategy game and the rest are play as "minions/creeps" in First-Person. You are also able to swap out the one person playing the Strategy part whenever with whoever.
Also include outlandish, unique characters to play as and to chat with while having the humor of Borderlands in all of these games.
Have us play as the villain in the metrovania game, or wherever possible (I'm bored of playing the generic hero 24/7).
The more I think about it, the more I think Nintendo has covered pretty much all bases with its IP - the problem is that many franchises remain dormant. I'd quite like to see Nintendo revive some old IP but in a surprising and innovative way. Like how Kid Icarus was revived in a whole new genre with Uprising, or how Breath of the Wild was a complete reimagining the Zelda series.
I think there's room for a story-driven action adventure (similar to Sony's offerings), or maybe an extra JRPG (although I'm satisfied with Xenoblade), but for the most part I think any new IP should be reserved for stuff that is completely out there (like, genre-creating).
Nintendo should make another IP focused on cute, mute characters who jump to the right a lot. We don't have enough of those on Nintendo systems.
No but seriously, outside of maybe the western RPG, there's not much that would interest me that Nintendo would have any reason to make a new IP to deliver. Maybe an early 2000s styled extreme sports games? Those need to come back.
I kinda don't want them to make stuff that I expect from a new IP though. I like when they come up with just weird new ideas. Maybe their next IP will be a mix of samurai movies, puzzle platformer and obscure Wiiware puzzle game Lit. Why not? But more like what Splatoon is to shooters or what Pikmin is to RTS. Just make a weird, out there version of a genre.
I know Sushi Strikers is only being published by Nintendo rather than developed but I would still say that is kind of a new Nintendo IP. Maybe that's the route they will go with new IP partnering with developers providing expertise to fine tune releases and handling marketing but allowing other developers to do the heavy lifting of developing.
