Topic: NEO: The World Ends with You

It's dated July 27th, 2021 and got a new trailer. I'm still not sure on this as what I liked about the first one was the combat which looks different now.

I don’t recognise any of the VAs... except for the sadistic floof, Xanthe Huynh.

@TheJGG Is that good or bad in your book?

One of the things that annoy me about games is the same small pool of voice actors used over and over again.

@jump Actually you have a good point. The same circle of voice talent for me is nice, because they tend to fill the same archetypes, and so they have good capacity for their roles. Getting new talent though is always good.

So it’s good and bad. It makes JRPGs feel home-y with the same cast but that means there’s little in the way of surprise talent. For example I never knew Johnny Yong Bosch was so cool until he did Persona 4.

Might not be as hype as SMT V, but I'll definitely be buying a copy.

@TheJGG I'd rather have the characters demostrate who they are rather than rely of typecasting of actors to advertise it personally. Like with movie type casting it gets really annoying/boring. Mark Strong pops up and he's a baddie, Tom Cruise pops up and he's a goodie, Aubry Plaza pops up and she's weird, Seth Rogan pops up and he's a stoner etc.

I recognized 4 names. I just appreciate that they bothered advertising the VAs at all. Major companies rarely give that much respect or attention to them, unless they're a hollywood celebrity they brought in.

I do agree that I miss the original's combat but that's also been my opinion of every port they've made of the original game, so at least this one is being made from the ground up for not a DS. But tbh, I don't actually entirely know what the combat is on this and I don't care until the game is out.

@jump I was very surprised that the Meyerowitz Stories was acclaimed, at least it proves that Adam Sandler was choosing comedy roles for thirty years despite having the capacity to do dramatic roles just fine.

I’ll have to wait and see if this game is up my street.

@TheJGG there’s a saying about you can teach comedians to act but you can’t teach actors to do comedy or something along those lines. I’m not sure that applies to Sandler though since he’s not funny ;p

I hope it gets a wider release and isn't exclusive to their store like Lost Sphear was.

@Magician not US but I’ve seen non-Square Enix pre-orders for this in UK/Europe already so it probably does have a proper release.

I definitely liked what I saw in the trailer from a gameplay standpoint. The only thing I am worried about is that I hope the music in this one is as catchy and unforgettable as the first. I know the same composer is involved so I am hoping I won't be disappointed! The music was half of rhe experience to me.

I heard that this game's canon to the anime, and not to the original, but I don't remember where I saw it.

that might be true, but I wouldn't be shocked if that's just there way of saying the anime is an accurate adaptation of the video game. (episode 1 was fairly accurate, if way too quick)

So anyways, I'm curious about this game, but...I kinda want to actually beat the first game. I did play the original version on DS, but somewhere in the middle I got stuck and lost interest in the game completely. No idea why because I liked the game, it was interesting.

Fast forward to the iOS version and I decided to try that, this was probably because it was on iOS and holding my iPad in one hand is uncomfortable after a short while, but I didn't even get to where I left off on the original.

....Now the Switch, people have said the controls while docked are...not that great. Is it really that bad? I think I just wanna play the game on the big screen with button controls, I'm sick of touch. xD

But yeah, I kinda want the beat the first game before I go for the sequel, which is apparently soon, I forgot about it honestly. xD

Everything I've heard is that you should just play it in handheld mode.

Ugh...what is it that causes issues? Maybe it won't bother me as much...? >.<

@Joeynator3000 It's pretty bad imo. The World Ends With You was one of my favourite DS games, to the point where I completely 100% the game, but I could only play a couple hours of the Switch version before quitting. I'll try to motivate myself to push through the game so I can experience the new content before the sequel comes out, but it's really not that great to play docked. The battle controls just aren't very fun using the joycons, it feels super clunky and awkward.

I wouldn't use the joycons anyways, joycons are just...terrible in general, especially now that I'm dealing with drift way more often. So I always use the pro controller.

....and the game doesn't support pro controller. So much for that, then, guess I'm not getting it. T.T

@Joeynator3000 I also dislike the joycons and almost exclusively use my pro controller, but this game doesn't have pro controller support and you have to use motion controls.
