I’m finally making my way through Mummy Demastered and really enjoying my time with it. A little searching on google and YouTube proved there was not a lot of Long Plays or articles other than reviews. It’s unfortunate it doesn’t seem to have too much love for it in the general gaming community as it’s a solid little Metroidvania style game.
I bought it as soon as it was released pretty much and was quickly disheartened by the difficulty and lost a life almost straight away. Tried to move on after dying again when I actually had some items and trying to retrieve said items which is done by going back to where you died and turned into a zombie, kill your former self and get your stuff back. I died trying to kill my former self and before I knew it, I had 4 perished grunts now zombies and I gave up...
Started the game again got similar results so gave up again...
A year later thinking I need some Metroid type fun I opened up this game again. Decided to carry on the game I left office was like 19% percent so I thought why not. Something clicked this time and I was able to bully back all my stuff and carry on my game.
I’ve only just started up again so have half the game to finish but this is a great little game that feels overlooked.
Has anyone else played the game? What’s your thoughts.

I bought it and play it at launch, it had many minor issues, the only real problem was the final boss freezing. But I have to say, I really really liked it, and for me it's a great metrodvania game, maybe now more than ever if updates have polish it.
For some days I have wanted to go back an replay it actually. Maybe all the launch issues made it slip under the radar, but maaaan it was a great game even with those issues. I think I will start a replay soon.
@PACO_PEREZ I haven’t had any bugs or glitches yet. I agree with you though as I’m playing it I know it’s one of those games I’d happily play through again. Not actively hunting down relics at the moment but like to search all over for health and guns. I am not a real blaze through levels so I make my way methodically which basically means slowly haha!
Wayforward sure make great little platformers. Did you happen to play Alien Infestation on the DS Paco?

@Filth_Element haven't play Alien Infestation really. I normally take my time in games and never speed run them, prefer exploring and enjoy the experience. Glad there's no bugs or glitches now, if it was a great game with them, definitely making a rerun when I finish hyper light drifter.
I've had Devil May Cry 5 since launch, and haven't touched it for playing indies. Guess it'll have to wait more.
@PACO_PEREZ if you have a DS or 3DS and see Aliens Infestation it’s worth a look.
Just finished the game and confirm, at least for me, there no bugs.... glitches I mean as there are loads of bugs in this game!
I’m the same as you though hate leaving an area without exploring fully. And when I get a new power up I go back searching where I can use it. Normally blindly! I should go back to having paper to note down locations like when I was kid.
I know what you mean though I started God of War and Spider-Man but have been too busy playing little indie games
Side note this game is so Metroid it’s crazy. It’s either a love letter or a please hire me game hahaha

@Qwertyninty lol what’s that supposed to mean? You bitter about something? I don’t understand what’s up?
The game doesn’t deserve that? I only ask as this thread I made is saying I think this game is good and deserves recognition which I don’t believe it has. And your saying that it didn’t even deserve the slight amount it received?

@Filth_Element yes it is just me being bitter. All things consider hear mummy was a good game. I came close to purchasing it many times. Never pulled the trigger.
Ahaha lol. I see. Bitter or not if it’s on deal it’s worth it I think. Only gripe I can think of is that the Boss fights aren’t too much of a struggle.

@gcunit yeah I agree that it’s not mentioned enough. That’s kinda why I first posted because I thought it was really worth the time and money.
It’s funny you posted recently as I just watched a Best Metroidvania list by switch force and they heaped praise on the game. Thankfully it was not far down my history so I could share it if you are interested.

The metroidvania genre is pretty deep on Switch. While Mummy Demastered is good, it's not my go-to-recommendation for the genre. Axiom Verge, Cave Story, Steamworld Dig 2, the Guacamelee series, and Shantae series all come to mind first.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,320 games (as of October 24th, 2024)

@Magician yeah agreed but Mummy is fun with a superb soundtrack and great visuals. I thought I’d share the vid as it was nice to hear it not only get a mention but to rank quiet high too!

@Filth_Element Yeh it was a good video in terms of the games it featured. There were a few there I wasn't particularly aware of too. Just a shame the genre regularly pisses me off - I'm not a fan of roaming back and forth trying to work out what I'm missing before I can progress - otherwise I'd probably get them all.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I'm not surprised by a lack of Let's Plays. LPs in general have started fading in popularity these days and with so many games to choose from it makes every game less likely.

@leathco yeah I reckon your right the movie didn’t help at all. It’s gawd awful to be fair!
It’s still kinda cool that it’s an old school movie tie in like the ones we used to get. Just a pity it’s such a rubbish movie to license out! Hahah
Talking about the movie it’s a shame it’s so bad because the idea of a MCU like franchise with Universal monsters would have been awesome if handled right.

I’ve had my eye on this game for a long time, but as others have mentioned, it rarely if ever goes on sale. I should probably just buy it at full price to support the people who worked on it, but I’m more focused on supporting myself and family. I didn’t realize it’s a Metrovania, I thought it was a straight run and gun. Even though my backlog is insane (with Hollow Knight just sitting there unplayed), I’d probably still grab it in a sale.
@Filth_Element - A Universal Monster universe could have been so great, maybe it will be someday, but they botched the Mummy and Wolfman so bad. I like the thought of each monster getting their own movie, then they all team up to take down humanity, but only a ragtag group of kids and an old German dude can stop them. Wait... that’s Monster Squad. Guess that’s why everything sucks now. It’s all already been done better.
A Universal Monsters universe had SO MUCH potential if done right. I imagined a Dracula movie where he starts out being Christian but having multiple disasters happen to him makes him turn against religion, ending with him giving himself up to become the vampire we all know today. Phantom of the Opera is already a tragic story, and really writes itself in my opinion. Honestly, almost all of the "monster" origins are tragic. Frankensteins Monster, Wolf-Man, Dr. Jekyll all really originate from people who thought they were doing the right thing. Than imagine a team-up where they go against the world that they originally worked for, but the world turned against them.
