@Ulysses I'm pretty sure even MH3U and 4U are still supporting online play, so it seems unlikely that Capcom would shut off online access to a game that released in 2018 in the West any time soon.

I'm sure Rise probably leeched a lot of the active players from GU, but there'll still be some people playing it.

For myself, I find the whole lobby system to be time-consuming and annoying. Joining SOS requests is one of the best QOL improvements in the series, IMO. EVERYTHING in Rise is designed to facilitate getting you into the thick of things as quickly as possible, which I really appreciate. I think there's... maybe two egg carrying quests in Rise, and they're totally optional. Really appreciate that, too.

Saw you hopped on. Wanna hunt? Just thought since we hadn't had the chance yet you might be up for a few. If so, let me know and I'll create a lobby

Having used the LBG for a bit now I'll say to me it feels a bit....unexciting.

I know this is technically a different weapon but in GU, the Brave HBG feels SO fun to play. After landing a certain amount of Brave shots you enter this Gatling mode, where you could dash off (at no stamina cost), find a spot to stop and then fire off a machine gun Gatling blast of Pierce ammo that would absolutely destroy the monster.

The LBG in Rise is just sort of, you shoot the monster a bunch and there isn't much else to it really. You can use the wirebug for exactly one move where you jump over the monster and plant a wyvernfire shot downwards at the monster which will do some good damage. That's it.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

@Northwind Idk if you said this or I missed it, but I to don't really like the SOS system mainly if a player rage quits or just didn't want to play (or troll) the MH HP still is high, it dose not go back to normal for whatever reason. just the other day I was almost running out of time on a hunt, I was 30 or 40 minuets in, but then A player leaves bc there asses got handed to them my PIckle.

Ya, good hunts. That Magnamalo/Nargacuga hunt was rough. One of them had to have been a silver or gold crown, if not both of them. They did seem pretty large. Usually they don’t take that long for me, especially with full end game gear. They had to have had tons of HP.

I see you’re still rocking the horn. As I’m now just playing for fun, making different sets and layered armor, I moved on from Switch Axe and Charge Blade to Insect Glaive, then Dual Blades, then Gunlance, and just yesterday I made an endgame Hunting Horn set with the Rampage Horn. It’s almost broken, as it provides both Health Recovery L and Health Regeneration where your HP slowly fills up. And it has Earplugs L as the 3rd song, so I was able to drop that from the skill list and replace with something else. It’s a crazy good horn. But I value fashion so much I find myself drawn to other horns more.

Dual blades made fighting Rajang and Goss Harag a breeze. You’re so fast with Evade Extender 3 and full Constitution and Stamina Surge to provide ample fuel for zig zagging all over the place.

@JaxonH Alright, good, so them being unusually difficult wasn't just my imagination.

I might try forging a different type of weapon soon, because Chameleos is a bit difficult to fight effectively with the hunting horn.

Considering I breezed through the game until now (with the exception of my first Rajang fight), it's rather satisfying seeing how difficult these monsters are getting.

Or maybe I'm just rusty after taking more than half a month off without touching it. Either way.

@Northwind @Ulysses

We're all definitely on the same page about the massive change to the MH culture and most importantly lack of that old school camaraderie. I 100% agree with all that's been said about it. As much as I'd love to quote all the points and comment on each one there's just too many.

The older lobby system really created the "we ride together or we die together" mentality. I started in Tri (Wii), moved on to MH4U religiously, then was a diehard MHGU player (1300+ hours HR999) all the way till Rise's release. I'm very attuned to that style so seeing how Rise changed all that was a huge culture shock to me. Again not to retread all the good points you both made there's a lot of good to Rise's system BUT at a cost.

Because of my veteran status I try my best to keep the spirit alive and play Rise as I did the other games. For example I created a ton of custom shout outs, stickers, auto shout outs etc. I try to put in as much personality in them as possible trying to be funny with movie quotes, rock & metal music references and/or just straight up humor with creative ways to get passed the censors with my foul mouth Like you said @Northwind I also struggle with trying to find that good lobby to chill in for awhile. It baffles me how easy Rise did completely destroy that major component to the culture. When I do find one it can be very rewarding and fun but boy can it take FOREVER. So many lifeless lobbies. I don't understand why so many create a lobby to just leave to go join someone else's quest. I wonder if they don't know you can do that without actually creating a lobby. Whatever. And as you said it's so annoying to go into lobby after lobby where there's only 'lobby' room but NO quest room. When I do find a turn room on my turn I always do it without 'Join Request' so that when people join the lobby they have the right to join that way. I swear I'm the only one that does that. And don't even get me started on the trappers. I even turned off the monster symbol thing because it really is so distracting to see that blue icon...(oh god do I wish they'd remove that and bring back the skill "Capture Guru" to where you had to actually earn it. Use caution and study the monster. Not handed to you on a silver platter!!!).

It really bums me out to see how defeated you are over this though. Although I really do understand how you got there. The new system is completely not designed for that classic "ride or die" culture and no personalities. Like you said it would have to be with real life friends to get anything close to that experience. If you're ever looking through lobbies and you see the name "Ganner" (Rise & MHGU) that is me and I promise you hunting with me is nothing like any of those "just get it over with" robot randos. I play MH for the thrill of the hunt, the awesome gameplay, the ability of customizing whatever you want to be a master of your OWN craft, backing each other up regardless of skill and equipment level (within reason LOL), and so on. The rewards are just a bonus to me (unless I'm specifically building something or need a specific item from the monster).

I wish I could make my take on this, but sadly I have yet to play GU so I have no old school stuff at all, one thing I did like however (From the demo) is how you could drink a potion in one gulp

I have this dragon type CB in MHR and I want to use it to farm chameleos, but the thing is, it might have attack 230 (I think), its sharpness is only about green or blue, and It better to just use the nerg CB, as it has Wight sharpness with 40% Affinity to boot, So what I want to ask is, do they have Handicraft gem's?
I want to max it out (I don't really know how the gem works), I would love some help on this.

I will have to agree the atmosphere has changed online. Everyone else has already said everything I could have said, I suppose. Though I'm not AS bothered I guess...? I mean, I do miss the camaraderie that was present during those round robin lobbies where everyone helped each other out for many quests, and when it was finally over you came away from it feeling like you made new friends. At the same time I DON'T miss waiting for upwards of 30 or 45 minutes for someone to appear for those absolute end-game deviant quests in GU. Though I guess that's a GU problem specifically.

I mean there would be long wait times for normal lobbies as well a lot of the time....

My thoughts are kind of all over the place atm. Been a long day. I guess what I'm trying to say is while mostly agree with all the sentiments here, it did have its annoying drawbacks.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Don't really care. There were pros and cons, and the mind's eye has a funny way of omitting the cons.

How things are now has less to do with SOS and join requests and more to do with the series becoming insanely popular. The same people who played back then are still around now. The only difference is there's millions of new players, kids, etc, diluting the mix. Cost of going mainstream. It is what it is. Giving up join requests wouldn't fix that. And the convenience of join requests outweigh the negatives by far. There's just a human tendancy toward nostalgia and "the grass is always greener".

@Northwind Thanks for that. I ended up running with the Nargacuga GS as I recently made that and have been having a lot of fun with it, focused on affinity, focus, of course. Will work on this and think of some alternative builds with other GS's.

@Ulysses I hate to say this but, I was one of those player's, did nothing but SOS, its why I had to do G rank (Iceborne) and rise by myself.
