I prefer the ice map to the desert one.

Well, anyway, hopefully the wirebugs aren't reserved for this entry only. I don't want to stop being Spider-Man in future Monster Hunter games.

If anything, Lava Caverns are closer to what World had. Frost Islands...eh, I dunno...better than Hoarfrost for me. lol

That’s what my brother said. The volcano map felt like Ancient Forest he said. At least in terms of complexity.

I found some really awesome hidden passages in that map. Like, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade style tunnels.

@Ralizah
Did you ever play MH3U? Sandy Plains and Flooded Forest are reimagined maps from 3rd Gen. And they were always 2 of my favorite maps in the series, along with Deserted Isle (but Deserted Isle was more because of nostalgia and just spending so much time hunting in it in the Moga Woods free hunt mode).

If they don’t carry wirebug forward, they’re going to need to come up with an equally compelling mechanic to replace it. And while I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, the MH team has never let me down before. Every time I’ve doubted them in the past, they’ve proven me wrong. They consistently nail it every single time. So I have faith that whatever they do, it’ll work out.

I get why the concepts originally existed, but that doesn’t change the fact that they bogged down the game and were largely responsible for why the series never got more popular in the west, why so many new players got turned off of the game after playing, and why even fans of the series had to learn great patience to enjoy the series. Not saying they were bad mechanics at the time, I’m just saying that in order for the series to improve and become more fun and more modern, those mechanics no longer have a place at the table.

I know this is a bit of a shock to the system for those who didn’t play World, especially since Rise makes even more improvements. I had that initial reaction when I first saw World revealed. But once I played the game I realized it was well past time for all those mechanics to go. If I want that old school experience, that’s what MHGU is for. A massive compilation of monsters with tons of maps using the old school approach- a final send off for the series roots.

But it was time to modernize. And... It’s not like the game has changed that much. You still gather, you still craft, you still prepare for hunts with meals and items, you still have all the same weapon mechanics and combat, you still have traps and tranqs, you still have all these things that you used to have. They just got rid of a lot of the tedium by making crafting faster, eliminating upkeep items like paintballs and hot drinks, and allowing players the courtesy of the tent mid hunt. But 95% of the core structure of the game is still the same. And this game actually has more in common with the old ones than World did. Rise is a perfect blend of old and new, I think.

Unlike Pokémon, Monster Hunter World and Rise are still incredibly complex games, comparatively. It actually needed to be streamlined because there is such a thing as being too complex and too convoluted with a bar of entry set too high... so high the majority of new players can’t even get into it. And that was a very serious problem for the series, and even now it’s still a problem, even after the streamlining. Which just goes to show how complex this series is, that even now in its modernized form, it’s still more complicated to learn than almost every other game out there, and still incredibly difficult for those who haven’t sunk hundreds of hours into the series learning the mechanics.

I went to a Walmart store earlier today to look for Monster Hunter Rise but they didnt have any in stock.

DIdnt the Walmart website have like a store tracker or something where you could find out about other Walmart stores if they have stuff in stock somewhere else?

Big fat major if that Capcom would do a Monster Hunter Freedom Unite remake but it could happen but not now or whatever. But if they did the they should make the giant grass octopus "Elder" monster to be more accessible in early part or in the middle, to show off the giant grassy octopus elder. that and make the Shen Goaren less frustrating since the first Shen Goare giant crab is pretty much a "Rampage" type invasion quest

urrutiap

Freedom Unite is the only Monster Hunter game to even have the Hypnocatrice, the shen goarens, lao shan lung and the giant grassy mossy octopus "elder"

I wonder if Rise has Zamtrios or not, since I noticed the smaller ones around the ice area. Same with Great Jagras, since there's Jagras everywhere.

I think wire bug bronco riding certain monsters like the anjwinged trex monster or even a tigrex is going to be much cooler than mounting from previous Monster 4 or Generatios.

You really had to button mash or whatever to get a monster from stop throwing you off

No Zamtrios for some reason, or Great Jagras, same with Agnaktor...no idea why they do that.

@Joeynator3000 Hmm. Seeing as Jagras and Zamtrios has it's grunts, I bet they'll come in future updates to the game.

Uroktors are also in the game, so Agnaktor too. Also, they can't have a baby Tetsucabra in the hub, and not have the normal Tetsu in the game. >.<

There are trackers but it’s been so long I can’t remember which ones.

It’s sold out nearly everywhere it seems. Even Amazon isn’t shipping til mid-late April so 3rd party sellers are being advertised in their stead. Best-Buy is sold out. Wal-Mart is sold out and only offers in store if it happens to be in stock locally. GameStop was sold out earlier today but it’s since come back in stock.

I know Target has it online, but it’s sold out locally for me according to the website. Might be in stock near you though.

@Joeynator3000
The reason is Monster diversity.

They’re only going to have X amount of large monsters in the game. So having the correlating large monster to match a small monster is going to take a slot from another monster. So there’s a price to be paid.

Basically, they’re gonna have their 35 large monsters no matter what. After that the question is, do you want all the small monsters to be miniature versions from those 35 so that you get no extra variety, or do you want half of them to be miniature versions and the other half to be different monsters that aren’t in the game and thus add more variety to the experience? The latter is obviously the better choice because it adds more variety to the experience.

Why have 10 big monsters and 10 small monsters of the exact same kind when you can have 10 big monsters, 5 small monsters of the exact same kind and 5 totally different small monsters that expands to Monster roster diversity by 50%.

@JaxonH The only thing is, some of the smaller monsters are of the same species of the bigger ones, or are infant versions of the bigger ones, making it strange that the older or bigger versions of the same monsters don't exist. My bet is still that they'll come in the title updates later down the line.

I feel like it'll be either the Peaks or a new map entirely. Or maybe both...? Then again they'll probably make another "Everwood" like area for this game, or whatever Iceborne had. lol

Well, looks like monster hunter definitely not coming to smash now. If you boot up smash ultimate, it shows an announcement that there will be three spirits, a palico, palamute, and maganamalo. I really thought they could still do MH, but instead make it the rise protagonists, and just have the mii costumes out earlier, to promote rise, but eh, it is what it is. Unless they for some reason do still do it, I could just see them putting the three mentioned above in the spirit board with people like hinoa and minota(probably got their names wrong, and then you know they would also spoil the end of the game with the four star spirit. But hey, maybe they are doing it, but doing them as a character last, so the character comes out around the time the end of the game comes out in version 3.00, but who knows at this point, smash is full of surprises. Don’t know why I didn’t put this in the smash ultimate chat.

@JaxonH I played a few hours of 3U, but, in general, 4U was my introduction to the series.

So returning maps and fanservice for series vets isn't going to resonate with me.

Some, but not all. It makes more sense to have small monsters if the big monster is present, but if a small monster is present there’s no need for the big monster to necessarily be present. It’s like, a square is always a rhombus but a rhombus is not always a square.

It would be weird fighting a Great Wroggi without a bunch of smaller wroggies around. So because he is in the game, it makes sense that they would put the smaller ones in. But if they said every single small monster has to have a large one also, it would shrink the breadth of the monster roster. Instead of having two completely different species, you’ve now shrunk it down to just 1. If you then do that for every single small monster in the game you significantly reduce the variety. Half the monsters in the game would have to be replaced with larger versions of small monsters we already have. Having smaller ones in for monsters that aren’t in the game helps offer variety and diversity to the roster.

And this is nothing new. They’ve done this before in previous games.
