Back when I started this series with Tri, the constant talk of Well-Done Steaks caused to me get hungry all the time. lol

@JaxonH I might go with a light bowgun as a secondary weapon at some point, but I'm not really seeing any reason to switch away from this. It might lack the theatrics of the switch axe, but its satisfying to use insofar as its intuitive in ways that a bunch of weapons in this game aren't, and, like the hammer, it hits hard and allows me to keep monsters in a concussive state half the time.

And... sorry, but what jumping? As far as I can tell, only my palamute can jump. The hunter can roll. The closest thing I've found to jumping is the upwards wiredash.

Thanks for the tip on the language. I'll do that.

So this set of radial menus can be customized? It took me a bit to figure out what was going on with that. It is indeed far more convenient than scrolling through a menu.

Started up the game to create my character and the game looks really good in handheld.

I don't play in handheld mode much, I am right now since I'm watching a movie, though. Only problem I have is that my glasses are old...ugh. Hard to see things clearly here and there...>.<

The hunters being able to talk is weird for me, but I don’t hate it. It’s just something I need to get used to.

@Ulysses Awww damn. I just want to get down and dirty with the regular Monster Hunter experience ie getting all up in monsters faces mano a mano. But yeh, definitely better than the ZM sieges from World. Those were the WORST.

I barely remember monster hunter tri. I just know that the text was small, so it was hard to read, and the water combat, while cool, was extremely clunky.

You can change their audio to 'Monster Hunter Language' in the settings.

@Crispe I agree with you on the Rampage quests. I've only done a few so maybe my opinion will change as I play more but the reason I've only done a few in the first place is because they just seem boring.

I've ordered a copy of Monster hunter and it's in the post on it's way to me. It'll be my very first foray into the series and I can't wait to sink my teeth into it.

I just have a small question about choosing a weapon. I like the idea of using something like the bow but a few places have said that it's a hard weapon to start with. Do you think I should start with something like the sword and shield for a few missions first or would it be okay to jump right in with the bow?

@alpacatears Best thing to do I think is head over to the training area at the earliest opportunity or doing one of the "expedition" quests, these just let you freely explore the map to gather materials or hunt some of the low rank monsters. There you can use the camp to freely switch out weapons it's a very handy way to mess around and give them all a go. Once you find a weapon you enjoy playing with I'd recommend giving it a few hours for it to properly click and then you're good to go. There is definitely a learning curve so don't be concerned if takes you a little while to get used to things.

Wow.

Monster Hunter Rise sold out on Amazon US even worse than before. Now it’s saying it’ll be 2-4 weeks before delivery. Before it was end of March. The sellout finally caused it to drop a spot behind Mario 3D World.

This is good to see.

@Ralizah
It’s more like a mid-air evade roll, but it’s also kind of jumping midair. Probably just bad terminology on my part, but if you press B after wiredashing in the air, you get a free mid air hop afterwards. Then, if you chain that into another wiredash while in the air, you get a another free mid air hop with B. You can travel a very long distance chaining these together, especially if you have a 3rd wirebug.

Also, just FYI, anytime you’re in the air, just hit A to hang still from a wirebug, at no cost of using a wirebug. And you can climb any mountain no matter how high, using this wall running technique:

1 wiredash into a wall, OR, jump off a running Palamute into a wall
2 press and hold the run button (R by default) before you make contact with the wall
3 keep holding R to run all the way up the wall
4 if you run out of stamina and jump off the wall, quickly press A to hang by a wirebug
5 while hanging, let stamina recharge
6 as soon as stamina approaches full, press B to midair hop toward the wall, quickly wiredashing back into it, repeating step #2 by holding R

A good beginner’s guide. We want as many new players to jump in and become diehard fans as possible. That largely depends on understanding the game properly.

Had to lol at this video. 'Beginners Guide'. "Let's cover one of the very first things you'll do in MHRise, and that's picking a weapon."

Maybe I missed something, but as far as I'm aware, I did not 'pick a weapon'. I started the game and had a sword, no picking involved.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

After playing the past couple of days I have to day, this game is gorgeous. I didn't expect anything else though. It's fun and I love the hammer, even though I planned on going with the bow, the hammer is just awesomely fun.

Also, for those who offered help and advice for me as a slow/old gamer, you were right, I already made that silk-bug things second nature and have incorporated the moves into my skillset. Love it. Best MH so far.

And NO, I don't mind a few things being streamlined and simplified and YES the graphics are good enough for me. Since this is coming to PC too and a Switch PRO is rumored I fully expect that the graphic settings are nicely scalable and it will look great on Switch PRO in docked mode. In handheld mode, I don't mind at all anyways. Love it.

Now if some of you want to go hunt with a semi-competent hammer user, look me up!

Monster Hunter World has shipped 4 million copies

Compare that to MH World, which after 3 days was announced to have shipped 5 million. But of course, that was on two platforms versus just one for MH Rise. It’s also being said the JP sales are going to break records at around 1.8 million physical sold in the first 2-3 days. Compare that with 1.45 million for MH4U and 1.35 million for MH World.

@gcunit
You start with a Longsword but you’re not meant to use it unless that’s the weapon you choose.

In your item box you will find 1 of each of the 14 weapons. You are free to choose whatever weapon you want which is why the guide is saying you need to pick a weapon. They only have you start with long Sword equipped because you have to have a weapon equipped at all times. But you’re not tied down to that by any means nor are you meant to stick with it without trying out other weapons.

Getting more and more tempted to grab this (my first MH game) the more I read this forum, can get it physical for £31 or digital deluxe edition about £45 being sold by someone I know

Another question I have though - is this mainly meant to be played as single player? Or is it more of a multiplayer game?

@Shane17 You can definitely get a fair bit out of it single-player, but it's much, much more enjoyable in multiplayer. There are village quests you do to progress the story and hub quests you do multiplayer (you can do them solo as well but it is tough as the monsters have a higher HP pool). Having a friend or two to play alongside with is ideal but generally inviting or playing with strangers has been fine in my experience too.

I would also add, for the Gyroscope menu...

Gyro Functionality: ON
Right Analog Up/Down: ON
Normal Gyro: OFF
Gyro Aiming: ON

Except that I can find no way to reverse the axis of the gyro, which makes it worthless to me.
