@Mountain_Man If they care about the graphics, then there's a pc release coming later. Not to mention, the game looks fine in handheld mode. I kind of despise Digital Foundry since it makes some people believe a game is bad due to their reviews, instead of just judging with their own eyes. Specs really don't matter if a game is fun honestly.
It seems we've founds something to agree on. To be honest, I kind of laugh at console owners who make a big stink about graphics and performance, because if that's what they really cared about then they wouldn't bother with consoles at all and would play PC games exclusively, which is the platform that will always have the best graphics and performance.
I've had confirmation my order will arrive tomorrow. Just need to decide if I'm going to keep or sell the Amiibo now as they are going for £60 on ebay and that would cover what I've paid for the game.
4K 120 fps gaming PC: 1K+
Nintendo Switch: 300,-
Just saying. Also, it's portable. Gaming isn't an important enough part of my life anymore to spend that kind of money for more frames and smoother edges of something I'll occassionally play.
Just throwing my hat into the mud.

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
I never noticed a lower resolution in the demo, and I played it in handheld. It actually looked pretty sharp. Also, I never got why 60 FPS is so important to people. Yes, it’s nice to have, but 30 FPS is still playable, and you barely even notice a difference. Again, if you care about graphics, then wait a year and get it on pc or something. I think it’s a fair trade-off for having the game on the go anyways.

I just got delivery notifications for tomorrow. Not sure what it is yet, since I ordered controllers and amiibo also, but it matters not. Digital deluxe is ready to go tomorrow morning.
@Ulysses
Nuance in all things. So many important aspects of games. But one important thing to note is that the enjoyment gained by each additional unit of a specific aspect, becomes less and less (change in enjoyment with respect to the aspect is inversely proportional to the aspect itself- it can easily be modeled by a differential equation).
A man dying of thirst in the desert would give his left arm for a cup of water. But once he already had 10 gallons he's unlikely to pay more than a buck for another cup. Why? Because marginal utility decreases the more you have.
Likewise, for a game running at 10 fps, framerate is HUGELY important. Sacrifice whatever graphics need to be sacrificed to get the frametate playable. But once you get to around 30 fps, the graphics start becoming more important than the framrate, unless you can double it to 60 without sacrificing much visually. But when a game is already pushing 800p docked, 540p handheld, lowering the visual quality further starts having a larger and larger impact. You can cut res in half from 4k to 1080p and barely notice. But cut handheld from 540p to 240p and you're GONNA notice.
There's a balance to be found. And they've struck that balance beautifully. They've hit a solid, playable framerate while retaining enough visual quality to be commonly praised as the best looking game on Switch. What more can you ask for.

May sound like a dumb question, but say I was to preorder the game today, to have it instantly ready tomorrow, would I still get the Pali o costume this late in the preorder time limit? Just asking cause sibling wants cat and dog armor for the Palio and palamute.
@TeeJay
I've never ordered from Gamestop and not regretted it afterwards. Even dating back to launch year when they repeatedly sent me a collector edition in a manilla paper envelope mailer, which of course resulted in being crushed. And THREE TIMES contacting customer support, complaining, having a new one sent out... in another paper manilla envelope lol. I swore I'd never order from GS again unless it's an exclusive I have no choice on. And, when I traded my games in, I got credit so, there's that.
Don't think I've ever ordered from them and gotten the item sooner than a week after release. I never payed for expedited shipping either, but when GS says release day shipping, they probably mean "SHIPS by release day" lol.
@JaxonH I never actually order online from them. If I want to get something, I mostly just go to the store itself, or used to before ((Current World Events)). I had some nice experiences from when I used to go to my local one, and I enjoyed talking to the employees there. There were a couple of times where they bugged me about pre-orders and stuff, but they never did that often. I actually even know a trick that stops you from getting the gutted copy of a game too.
Effectively, all you have to do is ask for the game by name, and they'll give you a shrink wrapped copy instead of a gutted one. It's only when you bring the box up to the counter that they give you the gutted game, or if they only have one remaining copy left.

@VoidofLight
I know my local GS rep. I enjoy talking to them, but I never buy in person. I'm an online shopper, almost exclusively so. I even order my oatmeal and coffee for work online. Nicotine gum. Video games. New phone. Consoles. You name it.
Just not worth the hassle when you can have it delivered to your door free of charge.
@Ulysses
It's jaw dropping, isn't it? That's a portable Monster Hunter shown in that video clip. A handheld Monster Hunter. It looks good even as a console game! But as a portable MH title, it's far more impressive than anything I've seen on PS, Xbox or PC in the last 10 years, except for Witcher 3 or Zelda BotW. Seeing Zelda on handheld in March 2017 was an epiphany. Beyond that, it's hard to recall the last time a console game visually impressed me. Probably The Last of Us on PS3. That game impressed. The first generation games released on Xbox 360, coming from the PS2 and GameCube, seeing 720p on a TV for the first time... that was incredible.
But ever since, it's just been incremental. Tomb Raider on PS4 at launch barely looked any better than Tomb Raider on PS3. And while games did slowly start to look better, it was never a huge jump or enough to make me say wow. Now PS5 games basically just look like PS4 games. Spiderman PS5 looks just like Spiderman PS4. Nothing impressive. I mean, the games are gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but they don't impress.
But THIS... this is impressive. Seeing Monster Hunter Rise is exhilarating every time I look at it. I still can't believe this is a hybrid handheld game. I think back to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS, or Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PSP... then I look at this... it's impossible not to be impressed.
Can a noob get into this? I've never played monster hunt before only know it by name, downloaded the demo and just given it a go and I had absolutely no idea what I was meant to be doing lol
I've never ordered from Gamestop and not regretted it afterwards.
Eh, we'll see. My order has been sitting in "Preparing for shipment" status the past couple of days. I didn't pay for release day delivery (which was something stupid like $15 extra), so I have no idea when it will actually ship. I have plenty of other games to keep me occupied in the meantime.
@Shane17 Absolutely. Everyone has to start somewhere and it's sounding like this entry will be the most friendly to newcomers. It helps to have someone to show you the ropes, but you can definitely figure it out on your own. I'd recommend Rage Gaming's video titled "10 starting tips for MH Rise" or something along those lines. Feel free to ask anything here as well.
@Shane17 Reviews are saying it's a good place to start. I imagine it'd be as acessible to newcomers as world, but I'm not sure until I can get my hands on the game itself. I know the full game will at least ease you in, as the demo's are usually for series veterans or people who played an entry before.
