@Tasuki Amazon's been bad lately. I pre-ordered the second it went live on Amazon and it kept getting pushed out. Then slightly pushed up to March 13th. Heck Kirby didn't come in til a couple days ago and it was pre-ordered well in advance.
Don't know if anyone's commented on this and I can't be 100% certain if it's a new feature but I just noticed you can hear Samus' heavy breathing when you're low on health. Maybe I just never noticed it before.
Also I'm really surprised that I never heard about the change to make the power beam a 3 shot burst. Not sure how I feel about it tbh. It would be nice to be able to turn it off.
Just started this one and I loved dread, fusion and pretty much all the modern 2D metroids after super. So I was hoping this would grab me in much the same way but so far it’s felt rather… dull. The opening was okay but if this wasn’t a metroid game I would maybe just stop here and move on to something else. Just got my missiles so I’ll see how the rest of the game develops, hopefully for the better. It is a very early impression after all.
I keep buying fighting games for some reason, even though I barely got anyone to play against.
@Takoda, still working through it slowly myself (just got the ice beam), and the vibe is definitely different from the 2D games (especially after Samus Returns & particularly Dread have taken them in a more slick, action tinged direction). There's even a plant boss relatively early on that's very traditionally Zelda esque, where it feels more like a puzzle.
That said, the combat encounters do start to become more exciting & tense once you start encountering Space Pirates.

@Takoda This game is a bit light on action (you might like 2 and 3 a bit more, they go a bit more in this direction), so odds are you won't like it that much, but it does have its moments. The Space Pirate bases in this game are probably the best parts of the game in that regard, but you won't start encountering them until mid-game. What you're seeing now is what most of the game is like, empty and atmospheric areas with a few enemies with a focus more on exploration and puzzle solving. The game is also slower paced and lighter on platforming than the 2D games, but that's out of necessity because of the first person perspective. Platforming and quick movements don't work well in first person.
@Bolt_Strike I'm not really against empty and atmospheric, a reason I love 2D Metroid is the atmosphere some of them manage to create. So far with the beginning of prime, it just feels like whatever atmosphere is there is just very... shallow? I don't know how to explain, but the opening of fusion managed to have me soaked in the moment immediately while with prime it just kind of felt like the opening of super but longer and less good at setting a tone. Again though, this is the very start of the game and I do intend to finish it, so I'll come back and see if my opinion has changed when I'm done with it. Thanks for the input though!

@Bolt_Strike
Prime 2 did have some tough bosses. It's been so long since I played I only really remember Quadraxis and a massive worm. But I also remember the bosses being the absolute pinnacle of design.
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes has the best boss fights of any game I've ever played, and that includes Monster Hunter.
It's my favorite Metroid game of all time (and by extension in the running for my favorite game of all time), though Dread, Prime, Prime 3, Fusion and Zero Mission are all up there.
@JoeM103
Power beam is not a 3 shot burst unless you hold the button. And it still charges the charge beam in the same amount of time, so nothing is lost vs the original design. You can still shoot single shots, you can still charge your beam in the same time. The only difference is when charging your beam, it gives a rapid 3-shot at the beginning instead of just 1.

@JaxonH Granted the bosses I'm thinking of were only really hard in the GC original, whereas the Trilogy version toned them down but there was
The Boost Guardian, which you had to fight in a cramped arena with no safe zones and minimal energy for healing. Was also fond of using its stolen Boost Ball power, going into Morph Ball and boosting like mad all over the arena, then going into puddle form where you have to rapidly lay bombs to get it to go back to Ing Form for you to continue doing damage. Infamously, one of the developers said they couldn't even beat it without going into Debug mode.
And then there was the Spider Guardian which was basically a Morph Ball puzzle boss. Most of the battle was fairly easy, but the last section is a pain, especially in the original where you don't have the Spring Ball. You had to jump across platforms and activate Morph Ball slots in rapid succession with no mistakes, and the platforms are slanted making it easy to roll off.
@Bolt_Strike
Ya, faintly. I kinda remember the spider rail puzzle boss, and being in morphball form for the Boost Guardian. I always hear ppl complain about Boost Guardian but I can't remember if I struggled with it or not. Too long ago. Only one I remember struggling with was the final boss. After hrs of repeated attempts, when I finally beat him, I jumped up in excitement, and when landing the vibrations skipped the disc, which reset the game... I had to do it all over again. I played it on GameCube.

I’m very curious to see how much this game will sell in total, digital and physical combined. Those UK charts are looking pretty promising, especially considering that those only count for physical copies. I wonder if this will end up outselling the original Prime? May not seem likely but it’s the Switch, so anything’s possible.

@StarPoint I wouldn't be surprised if it did. The install base of the Switch alone gives it a chance. In addition there are all the rave reviews, the complete ground up graphics rebuild and that it looks and plays like a great 2023 game. I'd bet on it passing 5m copies sold.
@FragRed
But I bet it's close to 4 mil. The game was basically at 3 million just a few months after launch.
My guess is Metroid Dread is somewhere between 3.6 and 3.9 million, and the recent release of Prime will likely give Dread the boost it needs to crack 4.
The fact Prime is still in the #1 eShop spot ahead of Kirby, even 3 weeks post-launch, tells me it's going to outsell Return to Dreamland. And I fully expect Return to Dreamland to hit 2-3 million copies.
Add in the physical sellouts with more copies on the way, and I think Prime Remastered has a real shot of not only surpassing its original sales, but potentially even coming within a stone's throw of Dread by the end of the generation. Which ain't bad for a shadow dropped remaster.

Rejoice, brothers and sisters! Because if USPS is to be believed, today I should have a physical copy in my hands after work. When Metroid Prime originally released on the GC I stopped playing after a couple hours because I did not like the control scheme. Now that there are modern controls...I'm eager to give it another go.
Edit: P.S. - And now that it's available on AmazonNA again it shot back up to #1 on the best sellers list.
