Finished it on normal mode. Excellent remaster, love all detail and changes they added. This game is a masterpiece and they really did it justice.
Maybe it's just me, because I was forced to play on normal the first time, but it seemed way easier than I remember it. I'm going to give it another go on hard mode soon, now that I have it unlocked.

Finally made it through the gauntlet of Phazon Mines, with plenty of energy to spare. Was that relieved to reach a save point that I actively saved twice. Thank f*** for that.

My first time playing it & it's been pretty fun so far. Not sure exactly how far I'm in yet, but I've just defeated a giant rock monster & obtained the "spider-ball" upgrade.

My physical order from Nintendo.co.uk has been in a status of "Awaiting Shipment" since Friday...Hopefully it still arrives this week.

@RR529 Pretty far actually. That's roughly 2/3 of the way through the game actually (maybe a little less, closer to halfway). I was just saying after I went back through it I was surprised how short it felt now. It is a GC game so I suppose that's not too surprising in retrospect, but I remember it feeling longer.

Anyone know if the data from the digital edition can be transferred to a physical copy? Wishful thinking maybe.

Anyone know if they've fixed the problem with save points being miles away from big bosses, so if you die, you are forced to trapse through the same parts over and over again each time you die, until you're bored?

IIRC - this gets especially bad near the end where the last save point is a good 5 minutes walk from the end boss (who is rock hard).

@Clammy
That's game design, not a bug or something that would be "fixed".

The game is specifically designed with save points where they are to challenge the player to overcome a series of obstacles. For the vast majority of the game, you can travel across the entire map spanning multiple areas in 5 minutes. I do recall the final boss has a bit of a lead in, but again that's intentional. The final challenge isn't just the boss, it's the lead up to the boss as well.

While I can appreciate the perspective of those who share your point of view, it is intentional, and thus has not been changed.

@Phornix
Well, it may have been one tweet but it was complaining about it clearly enough that all the outlets reported on it. It seemed pretty evident to me the guy was offended his original design was changed. Which... I get it. He's proud of his work and all (as he should be- he and the entire original team did incredible work), but I do think his ego blinded him to the fact it was for the better. Even so, he's free to his opinion, even if I think it's derived from emotion rather than objective assessment.

@JaxonH : Ah well, that's BAD game design IMHO, and if it's not fixed, or at least not have the option to respawn near the boss - or skip the annoyingly long cutscenes (IIRC from gamecube version). I wont be bothering with this game again.

A Great game, spoiled by awful design decisions.. Just because that's what the SNES did.

@JaxonH Didn't Dread have a "checkpoint" system where if you die you just respawn at the beginning of the boss instead of a Save Station but if you turn off the game you just start back at the Save Station? It wouldn't hurt to have something similar in the Prime games.

AmazonNA must have sorted out their distribution allotment for the physical release?

My order has been updated from the end of the month to the middle of next week.

[Edited by Magician]

Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

@Clammy
Free to your opinion on the matter.

I love it, and think it would obliterate the game's balance, ruining an already perfect game.

@Bolt_Strike
It did, but it was also designed around it from the beginning by making bosses much harder, knowing you could instantly retry. Adding it in post-release changes the balance. So while it may have pleased some, it would have frustrated others (such as myself) by making the game too easy.

I died on every single Dread boss at least 2-3 times. I haven't died to a single Prime boss yet and I just got the final upgrade. Preservation of game balance is key.

I died 3 times running the gauntlet in Phazon Mines. And when I finally overcame the feeling was exhilarating. The stretches are part of the game's design. Dread's difficulty came via Emmy sections and bosses. Prime's difficulty comes from the gauntlets between save points.

Amazon just announced my order has dispatched and will arrive tomorrow! I hope things are better for those in the US who are still looking for physical copies. I’m very much looking forward to playing this game. Never played the original or HD version.

@JaxonH And I have gotten used to that after playing Prime 1 for years. In fact on this last playthrough I didn't die at all. But for younger players that might struggle with the general gameplay or finding the expansions they need to weather the gauntlets, having Dread's quicksave system might be beneficial.

Also, Prime 2 has some pretty tough bosses itself that even veteran Prime fans struggle with. shudders remembering Boost Guardian and Spider Guardian

I just finished my first ever playthrough of this the other night and it was fantastic. I like it so much I immediately started a second playthrough of Dread.

About the only real gameplay thing that I would like to see addressed in Prime 4 is to modernize saving/restarting after deaths. My final play time on the save file was just under 15 hours, but my total time played was between 25-30 hours. This means that I lost well over 10 hours of progress just because of old school save and restarting points after deaths. I know some people love this stuff and it is/was important to this genre of games as a whole but to me, as a busy adult, this is disrespectful of the players time. There was no extra enjoyment gained from having to redo certain sections of this game losing hours of progress at certain times because of not backtracking to a save point or having save point very far from each other. The Dread devs even realized this by having a death restart you at the room entrance and not all the way back at your last save.

Hey. Is it possible to use stick control with Wii control's motion? Using motion controls with stick is not very good. But Wii's motion is perfect. That's because Wii controls uses all possible axis, whereas stick only uses X and Y axis. I'm very inclined to play Wii controls just for the better motion controls. lol

@AndrasLOHF it would be nice to have an option when you first start the save file, like how Fire Emblem allows you to keep perma-death on or not.
