Yeah, the only Zelda cycle that exists is the one from Mario Kart. I mean, I haven't changed my opinion on a Zelda game before, certainly not to the extent that I love a game one year, and hate it the other.
Anyway, I've avoided almost anything SMO related since E3, because I don't want to spoil myself. However, I have a few questions. I've heard there is amiibo support in the game, and I've also heard it's optional cosmetics that you can also get by playing the game, is that true? And there's no season pass shenanigans, right?
@Octane No DLC announced and any amiibo costumes are unlockable in game according to the official site. All amiibo do is give hints and the 3 wedsing amiibo give you small buffs.

@Octane I wouldn't be surprised to hear of a Season Pass for SMO but it could be announced a month or maybe few months after release. It's a big money making opportunity for Nintendo, one I don't think they'll turn down. A lot of their big games have DLC or Season Passes now. And Mario's their main man. The thing is, remember when Ubisoft announced the SP for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle before the game had even come out? That did not go down well, to say the least.
Skyward Sword was an amazing game. So was Breath of the Wild. 9/10... 10/10... what does it matter. The games are both incredible. And it's not me, and not just one review site... that thinks so. Considering Zelda BotW got more perfect scores then any other game in history, there comes a point where you have to face the facts that you are the outlier. That the majority of people love it and they are not "biased" or "adding points".
Odyssey is going to be epic. And no, not just because Edge said so, but Edge saying so is certainly evidence of the fact. They've only given 20 perfect scores in 21 years. And their scores have never really been different than the vast majority of other reviewers. So ya.
Another return to greatness with Zelda Mario combo of two perfect 10/10 games. We saw it with Zelda Link to the Past and Super Mario World. We saw it with Zelda Ocarina of Time and Mario 64. But never in the same year. Wow... what a time to be a Nintendo gamer.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I pretty much entirely agree - it's just EDGE that I have a problem with! ..since they published the worst 'top 100 of all time' list I've ever seen, I just can't accept using their 'opinion' as evidence of anything! Top 100's are subjective, of course - IGN didn't have a single Mario Kart game in theirs IIRC, which is kind of sacrilegious if you ask me, but on the whole their list wasn't too bad...such lists can act as something of a barometer for how well-rounded an outlets opinions are though - and EDGE's list (and, more importantly, their justification for it) was just utter trash as far as I'm concerned! If that's how they view the entire history of gaming, I don't any time for their opinions on individual games
That being said, all of the footage, hands on impressions, live demonstrations etc that I've seen all seem to point to Odyssey being pretty special - looks a whooooole lot of fun to me...so, unless Nintendo have been showing off parts of the game that aren't truly representative of the final product - which is highly unlikely - I think that there's little doubt that we're in for a real treat!
...and yeah, just to add my 2c to the whole Skyward Sword debate - I absolutely loved that game too! I've never fully understood what people didn't like about it to be honest - it was different, but at the same time still 'classic' Zelda - the motion controls (thanks to Motion Plus) felt really, really tight and responsive...and I loved Fi almost as much as Navi! To me, it was a great Zelda with a great storyline, great visuals, great controls, great puzzles, great characters, great mechanics - great everything! ..probably my third favourite Zelda game all in all - just behind OoT and BotW - which is a very, very healthy place to be!
...and to have a top Zelda title and an epic-looking Mario in the same year is just - as you say - WOW! ..there's no better way of putting it!
Mario DLC was the first Nintendo DLC, remember New Super Mario Bros. 2? But honestly, I think BotW expansion pass was where "everything is fair game" seemed to be the case.
Pretty much, yeah. I both like it and dislike it for various reasons, but in the end if it means more content, it can't be too bad. I'm sure I'll buy anything they offer up anyhow
I'm all for this and the Zelda DLC if they're quality expansions like Bethesda can make. It is a bit nebulous with the Champions' Ballad DLC basically selling an ending, but I think that's more due to the obvious production troubles in making the base game.
I want the same thing out of a Mario DLC expansion that I do out of a Monster Hunter one (another series that's never gotten important new content in DLC): a new map/world with new enemies and map-based features like capturing to move across power lines. I'd easily pay $20 for another New Donk City.
I'm down for DLC, of course if it's worth it. It seems weird to say this but we still haven't seen Zelda's DLC yet (or Rabbids for that matter), so I don't have an idea as to what a Mario DLC would amount to. Mario Kart's and World Tour's DLC was great (even if I don't have anyone to play the latter with), but Smash DLC was super premium and not worth it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Odyssey has no DLC; I'm sure Nintendo wants to have a completely self contained game every now and again, and Odyssey fits the bill nicely. Plus, depending on how fast the kingdoms go, one new kingdom might not be "enough" for a DLC.
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels
@Dezzy Wouldn't that be the Eponacycle? Eponamobile?

@BLP_Software It's not much of a spoiler, but since it's about the ending... "The Champion's Ballad is also set after Ganon's defeat in Breath of the Wild, so will be in effect a sequel, seemingly picking up directly after the vague cutscene shown at the end of the game if players had collected all the memories scattered across Hyrule."
Simultaneously, I agree with you, & I wouldn't be surprised either way, since Nintendo went the dlc route for Zelda. Actually, I'd be just a tinge more surprised if they did add dlc to SMO, just because of what you just said about Oddyssey being a complete, stand-alone game.
