This could be a Sunshine sequel! I didn't see Fludd, but I am pretty sure I saw a Pianta to the right!

Update: Watching the Gamexplain video, that's not a Pianta. It's a Mexican-style creature. The creature looks a bit like Mumbo Jumbo. Also, those rings could work like in Sonic games. Maybe this is a faster Mario?

@Henmii Those rings are from 3D World. Forgot what they did, I think they just gave you coins.

Yeah, but here they are placed in a strange position. So maybe you could go through them, Sonic style.

Mario 3D land and 3D world where nice games, but its cool to see them go back to free-roaming. Assuming that's the case, its a bit to early to tell.

I wish Nintendo would make another Mario game without Bowser or Mushroom Kingdom, but set in Subcon with Wart, Mouser and Fryguy.

I'm thinking you either use a powerup to reach those rings, or that enemy seen surfacing in the background.

Gamexplain is theorizing in their analysis video that the two clips of the game could very well be from the same level. If that's true, this game just got a LOT more interesting, that implies either the levels are humongous or the game is open world.

Or it could be like Sunshine where you can see the other levels from your level and the hub world.

I'm pretty convinced the day of the dead themed level is part of a hub world.

Looks too specifically themed to be a hub world. Looks more like an actual level.

My theory is that the hub will have differently culturally themed zones. They might even unlock as you play the game like in Galaxy.

@iKhan I've heard that idea before, but the desert part just looks too big. I have difficulty imagining other zones connecting to it.

The whole ice barrier thing might have something to do with it all.

Well, you know what the triple jump means, It's another non-linear 3D game!

That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but from what we see of this game chances do look good that there'll be a sense of nonlinearity in this game.

Or maybe you DO need Fludd to hover through them. From what little I have seen, I can't help but get Sunshine-vibes. The village, the lines hanging over the streets, it feels like Sunshine. But maybe this time ice is a thing, instead of paint?

I have a feeling that at launch (if this is a launch-title) this will be the most interesting. After all Mariokart and Splatoon are probably just ports, just like Zelda and Skyrim. By the way: Skyrim is loved by Aonuma, that's why it will be on NX!

@Henmii I think Aonuma also took some inspiration from Skyrim when making The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so I find it really cool to see both games come to the Nintendo Switch!

Highly doubtful FLUDD is involved here. Sunshine has had fairly mixed reception, so I doubt it would get a direct sequel, and melting ice isn't a particularly obvious function of a water pack. It's probably something completely new.

@TheLegendOfLaser,

Yes, Aonuma is inspired by Skyrim and I also have nothing against Skyrim on Switch. But I want more then ports, obviously. At least Mario Switch is totally new.

@Bolt_Strike,

Miyamoto said sometime ago that he would love to make a Sunshine-sequel. Besides Sunshine has become a bit of a cult-classic (not as popular as Mario64 or Galaxy, but still loved), or do I say something very strange? Maybe Fludd does have a melting/freezing mechanic this time. Or maybe the game just has that summery/sunshiny tone? Ah, we just wait and see!

TheLegendOfLaser

I think Super Mario Sunshine has become more appreciated over the years, but didn't Miyamoto also say that Super Mario Galaxy 3 was high on a list of games that he wanted to make?

Considering that this is supposed to be Mario's BotW and it's changing up conventions in the Mario universe, it would only make sense for it to be something new. They know people like 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy, but I don't think this is a direct sequel to any of them. They might reference them in smaller ways, but it's likely that this game is a new beginning for the series.

I have to agree. Besides, what we saw in that trailer looked nothing like 64, Sunshine or Galaxy.
