I want something a bit new and fresh from Mario. Something that's at least somewhat as bold as Mario Galaxy was.
So basically I hope it's a bit more like the 2 seconds of a town footage and less like 2 seconds of 3d Mario level from the past decade. This is how little we know.
I would really like a full Mushroom Kingdom to explore and solve puzzles and jump around in. Or another Super Mario 64/Sunshine variant. I loved the exploration of those games, and the ability to see far of stuff and puzzle out how to get there.
The Mexico theme level is PART of a hub. This Mario game's theme is global culture, and the hub will have different areas representing different world cultures. The other level is an actual level you access from the Mexico theme.
The reason I say this is that you see no enemies in the Mexico theme. Its full of city-like set-pieces a la a hub area.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
I have to say. If it's something like a N64-Sunshine and 3D World hybrid I would be extremely happy!
Maybe they switch between those gamestyles. I don't know. If it's anything like those 2 games it will be good for me.
This is actually making me think more of Galaxy recently. That giant moon in broad daylight looks out of place if the Mexican-themed level isn't in outer space.
Exactly what I thought. It wouldn't be the worst thing to happen but I would be disappointed if this ends up being Galaxy 3.
I think unfortunately we'll just have to wait a while since we can't get enough information based on that glimpse alone. We don't even know how final that footage was (likely not very much at all).
@PleaseUnderstan: He has a face like a Snifit, bright, yellow eyes like an Octoomba, and the fact that he has a cactus body along with the Snifit face reminds me of the Spiky Snifit from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. I would call him a new species of Snifit if not for the yellow eyes.
And the detachable head.
Notably, this isn't just some Mexican city, it's one in the middle of some holiday known as the Festival of the Dead, a setting last seen in Rayman Legends. That plus the skull motif seen in the town would lead credence to the notion that these people are, in fact, skeletons (Dry Sombrero Guys?).
Might want to check out the Gamexplain analysis to see what I'm talking about.
A 3D Mario with different worlds being inspired by different countries/cultures such as Japan, United States, Mexico, etc. is kind of a 3D version of Super Mario's Wacky Worlds. Though, it could just be a desert level inspired by Mexico/Day of the Dead.

Currently playing: Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, Super Mario 3D World, SSB4, and Paladins.
I played Galaxy 2 today and I was just staring at the mission select screen. Listening to the music. And then I thought, "Man, I never realized how much I miss a truly open-world Mario game, complete with searching for stars/sprites." I love 3D World to death, but I'll go beyond that if this game is in fact a return to form.
I'm so hyped.
@TheLegendOfLaser To some degree Super Mario Land (on the GB) had that kind of settings - there was one inspired by Egypt, another one being Japan and Easter Islands. Most Mario games have themes, but this one had some really strong design elements. It would be great to see stuff like that with enemies and hazards being specific to a "world".
I like how Mario spreads his arms out like a bird while he's running. The only time I've ever seen him do that in a 3D Mario is if he only had a Power Star and Rainbow Star.
Gamexplain is theorizing in their analysis video that the two clips of the game could very well be from the same level. If that's true, this game just got a LOT more interesting, that implies either the levels are humongous or the game is open world.
@Bolt_Strike the most interesting thing from that video (if the game shown is real) os the light that shoots up to the sky. What if instead of jumping into a world and selecting a mission to get a star for, what if instead there are several lights shooting up to the sky. You can choose which one to go for freely. You could see a light in the sky and head that way but the path winds around and takes you to a different stat, making the original one you went for harder to get and requiring you to re-enter the world... that could be cool
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
