@Budda I see where you're getting confused.😉 So, I'll try to simplify.
This is the track selection page when you play online. This is always a randomized loadout. New tracks will start showing up in here. Doesn't matter if you bought the dlc or not.
@WoomyNNYes I think what @Budda's saying is that the according to the German eShop, DLC tracks will only appear online as part of the Random option on the right, not as one of the three tracks you can choose from.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
Thanks, @Dogorilla. Sorry everyone. Forgive me, @Budda. Looks like you're, and I've misunderstood. This all depends on the captial "R" in "Random" (which I didn't notice).
This seems odd to me. After more waves of tracks have released, will they always be restrict dlc tracks to the Random option? If they keep this long-term, seems like it penalizes dlc owners. You buy the dlc but barely ever see the dlc online? I bet this changes somewhere down the road. Although that's probably not any time soon.
Here's nintendolife's article on the topic, with the quote from nintendo (probably the same quote @Budda is talking about)
A question we've seen posed is whether you'll need to own the Pass or have the NSO+ Expansion Pack to actually play the courses. The answer is no, if you're happy to either take your chances in the online rotation or play with a friend that does have access to the Pass.
Below is Nintendo's official info on this:
"Courses from wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be played from March 18th locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. From March 22nd, courses from wave 1 will also appear in the Random selection when playing Global or Regional races with anyone online."
Though playing online in 'Global' or 'Regional' from 22nd March will give you a chance of seeing the tracks, this will be a long odds game; each race gets a randomised group of 4 tracks, with the final race determined by everyone's votes. It won't be an ideal way to see them all quickly.
@WoomyNNYes
No problem.
I'm talking about the EShop on the Switch. The wording of it says that you have to pick Random in the selection.
On the american EShop it says that it will appear generally like you said.
("[...] will appear in the online course selection for Worldwide and Regional races)
I'm confused...
It's possible that the person responsible for the German EShop just messed up. If so... Sorry even mentioning it. 😅
@Budda Ohhhhh. I think you're getting stuck on another term that can have more than one meaning depending on the context?
In Mario Kart 8, the in-game menu tree goes like this:
Top, left picture is MK8's Main Menu screen.
If you select Online Play, it takes you to another menu screen (top, right picture). Notice the options, Worldwide, Regional, Friends, Tournaments. Here you are picking whether you want to race against people worldwide, or just people in your own region. (or switch Friends, or tournament mode)
After you've picked Worldwide or Regional, the track selection page is same (pictured below). So, here, if you pic Random at this screen, that's where we'll get the chance to see the new dlc tracks online.
@Budda Ohhhhh. I think you're getting stuck on another term that can have more than one meaning depending on the context?
I'm just confused with what the fine print on the american EShop said, and that's what everyone thinks Nintendo will do.
But as I said in my first post a few hours ago, I think exactly what you just explained.
I'd like to quote the German fine print for everyone that speaks German here:
"Darüber hinaus erscheinen Strecken des Booster-Streckenpasses ab dem 22.03.2022 in der Streckenauswahl "Zufall", wenn "Global" oder "Regional" für jegliche Online-Rennen festgelegt wurde."
@Budda I used google translate. It's possible the German region is doing something different. Every once in a while some regions have something slightly different going on, typically because of a legal reason specific to the region, or due to an agreement with a publisher/developer/Nintendo. So, it's possible the German fine print is correct, dlc tracks may only be possible if you select Random.
@WoomyNNYes
Right didn't think about legal reasons.
I got the "track selector" of the translation wrong. It's not part of the original. And the grammar is messy. But looking closer at the translation, it is actually more or less correct. My bad.
Interesting, Mario Kart 7 has the potential to be saved in its entirety via MK8 Deluxe which would be fitting given the 3DS shutdown in March 2023. I had a look at the tracks from MK7 not currently in Tour after seeing that Mushroom Gorge is returning:
Wuhu Island Loop
Melody Motorway/Music Park (already in MK8)
Piranha Plant Pipeway (already in MK8)
Wuhu Mountain Loop
DK Jungle (already in MK8)
N64 Luigi Raceway
Wii Coconut Mall (coming to MK8 Deluxe this month)
GCN Daisy Cruiser
Wii Koopa Cape
So if MK8 Deluxe does get all the MK Tour tracks then there's a high chance that MK7 is saved in its entirety.
@Grumblevolcano One track that I've been wanting to come back since I first played on it is N64 Bowser's Castle. The atmosphere, the weaving in and out of the inside and outside the layout of the track and all of the lava strewn about has stuck with me ever since I first played it on Wii. A lot of Bowser's Castle tracks kind of ham up the metal-ness of Bowser (7 and 8 being perfect examples) but I always loved this one for being such a foreboding and intimidating version instead.
Also, the music is one of the best Bowser's Castle's in the entire series.

@WoomyNNYes I remember making a post in the 'Unpopular Opinions' thread and me saying how I believe that MK7 has by far the best track design in the series was the thing that riled the most people up (I personally thought it was going to be how I don't like Super Mario World at all but apparently people are more interested in MK7 than I thought).
But yeah, MK7 tracks are a godsend. Give me Wario's Galleon, Mario Circuit and/or Rainbow Road or the Wuhu tracks and we are sorted.

@Fizza I've never played MK7 before but after seeing some of the tracks from that game in videos, I would absolutely love to see more in 8's DLC. Both of the Wuhu tracks and Shy Guy Bazaar would be awesome.

I was looking at it there and just under Peach's kart....
IS MY FAVOURITE TRACK IN THE ENTIRE SERIES. SHY GUY BAZAAR BAYBEE.
My favourite new tracks in the franchise would be either Double Dash, Wii or 8 but 7's tracks were fine. What I didn't like about MK7 though was no bikes, no VS mode and the limited character selection. With Double Dash introducing All Cup Tour, I liked doing a 32 track random VS mode in DS and Wii but 7 didn't have VS mode so I couldn't do it which was disappointing.
Looking forward to doing a 96 track random VS mode in MK8 Deluxe when wave 6 of the DLC has released.
So quick question. For the DLC that is coming do I have to sign up for the Nintendo Online with Expansion Pass. Or will just the Nintendo Online membership work?

Just under 2 weeks now until the first wave comes out, god where has the time gone. I still need to get all the grand prix cups! 200cc is going to drive me insane...
