@DarthNocturnal To get the star ratings for 150cc, you have to do a few things. You have to be persistent, and use your defensive weapons (drag shell, banana behind you to block getting shot) - use shortcuts when possible helps.

"Be persistent" = MK8 AI will always get brutal AF for some cups. You may have to race a cup several times until the odds are in your favor, and you get the AI isn't brutal AF. Roughly one out of four times the AI will be beatable to win stars for the 150cc cups. I don't know that stat for a fact, but that's about what takes.

I feel like 150CC is pretty easy, but some of the 200CC cups are quite difficult to get three stars on.

@DarthNocturnal that's interesting, because to me 8 and Deluxe are the only Mario Kart games where I consistently win every race in 150cc against the CPU.

Wii screws me over the most, while Double Dash is due to my less than stellar skills at the game.

Kinda cool how we can have opposite experiences with the same games.

I found 150cc to be pretty easy against CPUs, Mirror Mode and 200cc are where it gets challenging for me. I think Mirror Mode is more difficult just thanks to the muscle memory I've built playing the tracks in 150cc so much, so I just get confused with late turns and reactions sometimes. 200cc is just brutal all around, especially if you have a kart with poor handling and traction. It's possible, and I've gotten at least 1 star in every cup, but it is hard. I look forward to grinding out more tracks with the DLC.

Wii is the least forgiving Mariokart game I've played, and it's also by far the one I've played the most. LOTS of stuff can go wrong so quickly in that game, and the almost complete lack of I-frames after getting hit makes it even tougher. Mario kart 8 is hard, but it's hardly unforgiving, especially with how many frames of invincibility you get. Sure, you can get unlucky, but as long as you use your items appropriately, you'll have a much better time.

WTF, I didn't spend that on eshop!!! Was I hacked?

Oh yeah, that's right, MK8 Booster Pass charge occurs one week before release. 😉

When wave 1 releases next Friday it'll have been 2521 days since the last time Mario Kart 8 got more tracks.

@Grumblevolcano Gee, with that much time, we can only assume the quality of these new tracks will be at least equal to the quality of the existing Mario Kart 8 tracks. Nintendo doesn't release games until they ready. They wouldn't dare release direct ports of mobile tracks.🙃

@WoomyNNYes I saw that my DLC payment went through as well. Now I just have to wait until next week! Just curious, did they show off the file size for the first wave? I don't recall seeing it, perhaps they'll have it up when it gets closer to its release.

It’s downloaded on to the system ready to play. Just needs to unlock

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Wait the first wave's download is out now? If I were to download it, would I still be able to play MK8 or would it say 'this software is currently unable to be played' or something like that? I have the NSO EP for reference.

It'd be the same as any other dlc, @Fizza .... There's been other games with a 'season pass', like Breath of the Wild had? Where the dlc didn't all release at once but it never stopped you playing the game itself

@BruceCM That's good, I still need to get perfect cups on all the grand prixs.

@MarioLover92 I didn't see the file size, however, the MK8 update finished installing quite quickly, before I even started playing a game. So, I suspect the file size for the 8 tracks could be small-ish, 250-500MB.

Eshop says MK8 is 6.9 GB. Roughly speaking, divide that by 8, and you can get an idea how much space a new 8 pack of tracks will add. Granted a chunk of that is not tracks.

@WoomyNNYes The reason the download was so fast is because the DLC doesn't contain the tracks, it's just a 0.1MB ownership key. The free update which goes live on Friday is what will contain the tracks.

This is basically how you're able to play the new tracks in matchmaking even if you don't own the DLC.

@1UP_MARIO @WoomyNNYes Yeah my download finished very quickly as well. I would imagine the file size is indeed pretty small as a result. I haven't booted up the game since the download finished, I may need to do that and look at the course menu to see what's up.

Update: I've gotten all the gold cups on 50cc, 100cc and 150cc, the only things left to do now are Mirror (a mode that I don't play too often so can be a bit disoriented with) and 200cc (...what do you think?). Soooooooo yeah, I'm in this for the long haul.

I'm playing through it again for the sake of 100% completion and I have to say: why, in almost every Mario Kart game, is the Shell Cup by far the most bland and boring?

Take 8's for instance:
Moo Moo Meadows is very dull and gets repetitive real fast (fight me).
GBA Mario Circuit is actually pretty good.
Cheep Cheep Beach is incredibly short and bland (again, fight me).
And Toad's Turnpike is the definition of hit or miss: it's either great or terrible.

I'd say only 2 of those tracks are somewhat good, the others are just the purest form of meh.

I have to work my way through all.the cups again. Like the Kart parts that stuff somehow was saved to the Switch rather then the cartridge itself so with getting a new Switch I have to start all over. I don't think I will get it all done before the DLC drops but that's OK.

Quick question what CC is the Mirror. Is it 50, 100, 150, or 200?

@Tasuki Mirror mode is 150cc. There's a mirrored "150" in the mirror mode logo, too.
