@BlueOcean Yeah the separate releases sounds like a good possibility. I suspect that Galaxy 2 would come on the Switch eShop at a later date if they do decide to go the separate releases route. Not really expecting full remasters at this point.

By the way...

"...I think that Nintendo will release Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Odyssey 2 separately some time after March 2021."

Except they already released Odyssey three years ago and Odyssey 2 doesn't exist. XD I'm sure you meant Galaxy 1 and 2.

I wonder why Nintendo hid the Galaxy soundtrack, in the trailer they showed both the 64 and Sunshine soundtracks but not Galaxy.

The eshop gives an exact amount of tracks, not a “more than!”, they just outright say how many songs are included.

The lack of one of the lists in the trailer doesn’t need to mean anything.

Thanks and no worries respectively 😁 but I criticised that there's no tracking down system for blue coins in Sunshine! That's something that Odyssey included, years after. Did you get every moon in Odyssey??

LOL Yeah, I mixed them up. I used the spelling prediction so it was a bit automatic 😂. Thanks, buddy.

@StuTwo Well for Sunshine, a lot of them can be fixed. Lily Pad level could have the pipe at the end redirect back to the beginning of the level, rather than dumping you back at the plaza. That's just changing a transition pointer. By far the least work for a fix.

Gooper Blooper could fairly easily be reworked to be given an additional attack for each recurring battle, at least making fighting him again somewhat more interesting. The camera issues... well, honestly who knows how easy or difficult it might be to apply some modern design to the camera. But that's possibly changed as well (they did it for 3D World at least so...) Pachinko could theoretically just be given the same physics as the rest of the game with little work... not sure if that'd help but they could give it a shot. They could also super easily add a Blue Coin counter into the UI to let people know how many Blue Coins are left in each world.

Finally, they could change the shine lock to get into Corona from 'Beat all Shadow Marios' to 'Beat all Story missions + reach X shines', so that the game doesn't lock you into getting the same 49 stars every time you want to get to the final boss.

Unfortunately, most of the other issues (Sirena Beach, Noki Bay and Pianta Village not having any plot, no Shines being available during other Shine missions, blue coins only being available during certain missions, etc) are definitely things that would require a full remake to fix. But still, I think what I outlined above would be a significant improvement with minimal effort.

All of these things would be great and would improve the experience. Unfortunately it doesn't seem at the moment like we're getting any of them...

I mean I know that Wind Waker was stronger base material to begin with but it was expertly touched up on Wii U. There's no reason why Sunshine shouldn't have been given the same treatment especially since it needs it more.

Like you say - it wouldn't fix everything but it would make the game more pallet-able.

I think it's especially strange that Nintendo doesn't seem to be fixing anything with Sunshine in particular because these issues stuck out at the time and expectations have moved on since. I think a lot of players at the time accepted unfair and frustrating difficulty more so than people will today.

I was a big GameCube fan, too. I just wrote a comment about what I love, it's not flawless of course and the Galaxy gameplay is more accessible but Super Mario Sunshine is the best (IMO)

That's fine! We can have divergent ideas on what we want to see from video games!

Personally I like my Mario games to be tightly constructed obstacle courses, largely linear with lots of secrets hidden tangentially around courses. Galaxy 2 is peak 3D Mario for me (with 3D World and Galaxy just behind). Sunshine is what I least want Mario to be. So even if Sunshine were flawlessly executed (and, as even big fans of the game largely agree, it's got issues) it still wouldn't really be the game for me even if there's lots of good stuff in it.

I'm really happy for anyone younger who didn't have the opportunity to play 64 or, better, Sunshine, or even Galaxy (a 13 yo game at this point sh*t...), but i would like anyone else to convince me that there's enough value in this collection to spend 60 bucks for a person that has the originals.
I mean just let this sink in: Zelda has now more proper full fledged 3D remasters than Mario does. For sunshine and galaxy i honestly expected something like WW and TP on WiiU. And for mario 64 finally something like link's awakening, and not that Dpad embarassement that is 64DS.
Was i completely out of proportion to expect this? i would have gladly paid 80, 100 bucks for remasters like those. 60 for straight ports? i'm sorry i'm out. happy for everyone else.

@BlueOcean Yeah I got every one of the moons. I had almost all the purple coins too, if not for 12 or so in the seaside kingdom. Finding them became more like a chore than anything. It bothered my OCD for a while, but I'm also kinda lazy.

We're all entitled to our own opinions. Thanks for being chill about it

@teo_o

I thought a moderate graphical update for 64 was reasonable to expect. But then I expected Sunshine and Galaxy to be untouched.

@Dezzy I expected 64 to be completely polished as well. That would warrant the 60$ price tag. And some more bonus levels or mini games would've sufficed but nope. No reason to play them again.

The more I think about it the more excited I am for this.

I've only played 64 in bits in pieces via rentals back in the day, and a lot of the time I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing (due to being new to exploratory 3D games, and the fact that I was placed at different random points in the game when I rented it based on where the last person left off), so I'm glad to get another crack at it.

I've never played Sunshine as my family ended up getting a PS2, although seeing it at store demo kiosks as a kid was magical. So it'll be new to me.

I have played through Galaxy, which was my first proper Wii game (not counting Wii Sports) and a magical experience, but it's been over a decade since I've last played it, so I'm eager to jump back in!

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@BlueOcean I think I've found something we agree on: Super Mario Sunshine

Octane

@Dezzy with that i would have thought about it, and after seeing video reviews to attest sunshine and galaxy quality i would have probably bought it by the end of the year, or giving it as a present. come on nintendo, ocarina and majora's on 3DS have some actual value outside the sentimental one.
Especially considering that visually mario 64 has not aged well.

Just got notification from my local store and I pre-ordered the game with 20% discount!

This will be my very first time playing those games

It's aged like Val Kilmer.

@Dezzy that’s not fair, he’s in his 60s and has been fighting cancer for the last few years.

@jump Ah, that's tough. Any cancer is significant, but for an actor I'd imagine that's changed things quite a bit.

Ok well I didn't know about that. I assume that's probably independent from getting massively overweight though.
