@TheFrenchiestFry I was thinking the same thing during the reveal. I'm really happy that it's happening, but it does feel like it's sort of hastily done.

Give me a heads-up if you're going to send a request please.
Nintendo put more effort into Pikmin 3DX than this collection, their flagship franchise. Getting this later, grabbing the Mafia 1 remake instead. At least the developers and publishers put effort into that.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
I've thought of a possibility, maybe each game has a separate icon like Borderlands and Bioshock (i.e. when you download 3D All Stars or insert the cart it has separate tiles for 64, Sunshine and Galaxy rather than a 3D All Stars tile). Then after March 31st 2021, each game is released separately and Galaxy 2 releases (e.g. $20 for 64, $30 for Sunshine and $40 for each Galaxy game).
This was my assumption of what's happening. I think they're launching a Switch Pro next year, and one of the main selling points will be that it emulates Gamecube and Wii games, which will be sold on the eshop. Which will include Galaxy 2 as well. That way they can say "oh well if you want to buy these past March 2021, you'll just have to upgrade to our new console".
That was basically what they did with the New 3DS. Being able to buy SNES games on the eshop was frankly the biggest selling point of that console.
Every other single game out there (well except Super Mario Party for obvious reasons) allows you to play in handheld mode or in TV mode.
Ugh, and I literally just pre-ordered the game on Best Buy. Like, seconds ago. That's very disappointing from Nintendo if you really can't play the game in handheld mode.
My nephew has a Switch Lite. I just sent him the 3D All Stars trailer and he's excited to play Galaxy. Now he won't be able to unless he buys Joy-con and a table stand for his Lite. What a joke. Typical Nintendo. So instead of including a simple work around, they've screwed over the millions of Switch Lite owners.
@Octane Oh, I didn't even think about that. I just assumed they'd rework it to work well in handheld mode. Well that makes my decision much easier because I have no interest in playing it docked. Might as well just break out the Wii at that point.
@Octane I think you might have that wrong. I got this from Eurogamer
"Oh, and when playing Galaxy's Co-Star mode, you will need separate Joy-Cons to use their pointer functionality. Worth noting for those with a Nintendo Switch Lite."
It seems it's only for co-op mode you'll need Joy-con, which makes sense. Surely that has to be the case. Perhaps in single player you can use the right analogue combined with a trigger, to collect the star fragments? Or even the touchscreen.
@link3710 I mean, stuff like that is incredibly complicated. That's high-level computer stuff. And there's a virus. Keep your expectations in check please.
If the physical edition will be ended on March 2021, Nintendo should keep providing more physical copies before the deadline date.
Fans will not happy with very limited time to get the bundle if they miss the deadline.
I will admit that I was wrong about the collection coming out. However, if that is what Nintendo are going to be releasing and then doing so for a short time period - maybe they should have just not done it. That is the laziest cash grab crap they could get away with doing.
They call it ALL STARS but do virtually nothing to the games other than making 2 of them widescreen. The original All Stars actually revamped the graphics and music, this is just cheap and tacky and really not impressed. Mario 64 should have been remade while the other could get away with a bit of tinkering in the visuals and perhaps gameplay with Sunshine, but they didn't even bother with that.
With all this I agree. I thought that the limited availability was for the physical version but the eShop says the same. It's a bit embarrassing to charge full price and just leave a game out, it's like Nintendo tries hard to be annoying, stingy and ungrateful.
Super Mario 64 needs a remake. They missed a great chance on Nintendo 3DS that was blessed with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask remakes and they missed a chance on Switch. Then again, Grezzo and not Nintendo did that. Nintendo made The Wind Waker HD when they were practising HD resolution (their own words) and Tantalus made Twilight Princess HD. Is Nintendo unable to do anything right on their own these days? It seems so.
@Octane That's extremely disappointing. What's then stopping me from playing the game on my Wii, then? Sure, I guess I can put my Switch in tabletop and then technically play anywhere, but they really couldn't map the shake button to the X or Y button? Or a shoulder button/trigger? Wow. Just... wow.
@OorWullie I thought so too based on the last sentence for Galaxy's description, but unfortunately there's no indication that handheld/TV mode w/o split Joy-Cons is supported. Now to be fair, I wasn't sure how they were gonna map the pointer functionality in a way that it is as smooth as it was in the Wii version, but I didn't think they'd just limit player options with the Joy-Con. Yikes, Nintendo. Just... yikes.
Now that I think about it, I'm guessing the game doubt have a freely controllable camera, either. Sigh.
If you have a Switch Lite, you need to buy separate Joy-Con to play Mario Galaxy by the way. Just FYI.
What is your source or are you just making that up like some other times? I just read the whole eShop description and it doesn't say anything like that. It says that the collection supports TV and handheld mode and that the two-player option is only available in Super Mario Galaxy and that would require the joy-con mode.
