I will admit that I was wrong about the collection coming out. However, if that is what Nintendo are going to be releasing and then doing so for a short time period - maybe they should have just not done it. That is the laziest cash grab crap they could get away with doing.
They call it ALL STARS but do virtually nothing to the games other than making 2 of them widescreen. The original All Stars actually revamped the graphics and music, this is just cheap and tacky and really not impressed. Mario 64 should have been remade while the other could get away with a bit of tinkering in the visuals and perhaps gameplay with Sunshine, but they didn't even bother with that.

I've thought of a possibility, maybe each game has a separate icon like Borderlands and Bioshock (i.e. when you download 3D All Stars or insert the cart it has separate tiles for 64, Sunshine and Galaxy rather than a 3D All Stars tile). Then after March 31st 2021, each game is released separately and Galaxy 2 releases (e.g. $20 for 64, $30 for Sunshine and $40 for each Galaxy game).
@FragRed I noticed that the button icons on the UI in Sunshine were from the GameCube, so they didn't even bother to update those. Wind Waker HD had more effort put into it
@Grumblevolcano Mario 64 is not worth $20, it's not even worth $10 as they did nothing to it. That game needed a remake or at least, to have Nintendo put some kind of effort into it.

@Octane Oh God, I am going to need to rewatch that, but that really is shameless. This feels like Nintendo knocked this up during Covid by a single person who ROM dumped some files just to have something ready in time for the anniversary.

@Octane Oh wow, I didn't notice that. Maybe the rumours were actually all false and the collection didn't exist at all until like yesterday and Nintendo were just like fine, if you want it so bad then here you go.
@BenAV Didn't this rumour start earlier this year by the way? Even if it wasn't real, they could've totally compiled this thing in a few weeks time and made it a real thing.
@Octane I fully expect on 1st April to announce the full remake of Mario 64, Remasters of Sunshine and Galaxy 1 and 2 and then sell them all as a package for half the price of this All Stars collection. That will be Nintendo's April fools to everyone who buys into this All Stars Collection

Using the GC controller for Sunshine would make so much sense, actually. And we know the Switch can recognize when a GameCube controller is used (a lá Smash Bros. Ultimate), so I really won't be surprised. Heck, I'd imagine the game would encourage you to use it.
@Octane Yeah it's a bit weird how long the rumour has been around for and then in the end it looks like they put almost no effort into it. Wouldn't be surprising if they already had the whole collection sitting there finished and ready to release before the rumours even started spreading in the first place and they've just been waiting till now till announce and release it.
Doom 64 is a great example of how to modernise a 64 game without taking anything away from the original's look. Bethesda went to the effort of remastering Doom 64 as a free Doom Eternal pre-order bonus but Nintendo can't do the same for a full price release. Duke Nukem and Turok are other examples of how to bring 64 graphics up to date. Widescreen, brighter image, less muddy textures, less jaggies and super smooth gameplay. 3D All stars Mario 64 just seem to have a sharper image and that's it
Nintendo your ability to sour such amazing announcements astounds me. Especially coming off of the new Nocturne HD trailer and how amazingly redone it looks, something about this collection just feels cobbled together and not nearly as extensive as it could've been.

Haha well I said like 3 different times in these various threads that Nintendo are super conservative about the pricing of their most valuable IP, but even I'm a bit shocked how lazy a release this is. No good reason not to include Galaxy 2 at all.
The 3D All Stars collection is only really good value for money if you happen to want to play all 3 games. Luckily I'm in that camp, so I'm preordering it anyway!
The 3D World with a new expansion is frankly better value, although I guess we need to know more about the expansion.
