This game is really fun. I've only played about 8 rounds so far but I managed to win one, which is much less time than it took me to win a game of Tetris 99 lol.
@Xyphon22 Apparently the game randomly chooses a stage from what everyone selects at the start, so if most people pick 1-1 then that's most likely to be the stage you have to play.
I'm really good at getting second, but I usually just run out of time before the other person. If someone is good enough to make it that far, chances are slim to none that they are actually going to die, so you just have to outlast them, and I'm not good enough to do that. Oh, well.
Yay, I finally won one! It was down to 4 of us for like 10-15 minutes (probably not, but it seemed like it was that long). Then two went pretty quickly and when it was down to only 2 of us I glanced at the other person's screen and saw them just standing on a mushroom doing nothing, so I think they were hoping to just have their timer last longer than mine, but finally it did not. Fortunately I had over 300 coins so I just kept spamming X and usually getting a POW to clear out the enemies and give me more time.
Just got my first special battle win, in one way it's harder as I find my screen fills up in a way I haven't seen in Player Battle mode, but its easier as players are knocked out much quicker so if you can hang in there and keep a healthy coin count I think you have a good chance of win if that makes sense?
I tried the challenge one last night and it didn't seem any different than the normal one. The description says there's a set order of levels, but I played it twice and got different levels both times. As for the results, I got down to the last two again, but I ran out of time and looked up and it said there were 0 players left, but I still got second. I don't know if I ran out of time like a split second before the other player did or what.
The timer is what makes this game so exciting for me, it's so satisfying to muster up combo after combo against a horde of ennemies, until my (usually slower) opponent dies from a time-out. The timer is much too generous until the very end of the game, where 90% of the true skill is shown. And that leads us to the main problem with this game imo, that it rewards patient players too much, by rewarding them with a decent placement vs. really skilled players who dump everything into getting 1st place but have a much harder time until the end of the match.
@N00bslayr Same. My strategy is to get coins the first minute or so I play, and then when everyone attacks me for having the lowest time I nab a star and not only get me some time but kill off some of the other players.
@Xyphon22 That's interesting, I rarely see multiple Lakitu's in the normal game, but I've had 7 or 8 on screen in challenge mode! I'm regularly getting top 3 too in both modes.
@App I'm going to try that strategy! Do you ever use the pipe in 1-1 to get coins? I always skip it.
@MarioBrickLayer I do it the first time I play it.
If I go there again I usually have plenty of coins so I skip that path and go for the time. You know where the star in that level is, right? It’s going to be your biggest help.
Also, my biggest strategy is to always, always, always start with a fire flower. It’s extremely cheap, and will help you get tons of coins and time fast.
