I've been harrassed online for wanting certain characters in Smash people percieved as too unlikely or literally impossible. Cited examples include Doom Marine, Dragonborn and Dante. I just want this forum to gauge a discussion on how far we think Nintendo is willing to go with character picks especially in light of recent roster additions like Joker and the long-thought-to-be-irrelevant characters like King K. Rool and Banjo & Kazooie.
I'd also like to hear thoughts on the potential all out inclusion of western developed characters after the seeds were basically planted with the inclusion of Banjo-Kazooie and technically Dark Samus & King K. Rool.

All bets are off at this point. Vitriol is completely unnecessary in the discussion; no one foresaw Snake so no one really has the right to claim anyone is outside the realm of possibility.
Out of the three you mentioned, Dante would be the most likely candidate afaic given Platinum already have a character on roster and have a well-documented healthy relationship with Nintendo. Outside of ports and Doom 64, I can't think of all that much Id and Bethesda have done with Nintendo. That said, there are plenty of Western developers who've got characters that could fit the bill, and the indie scene has birthed massive demand for icons like Madeline from Celeste or Shantae from her eponymous series. If I could pick a character from a Western series, it'd be someone from Rivals of Aether. I think Nintendo honouring RoA with the inclusion of one of their characters would be HUGE for the future of platform fighting games because I honestly don't see another Smash title being released after Ultimate for a VERY long time if ever, and RoA seems to be the only shining hope for the success of the genre in years to come.
Personally, I'm gunning hard for a legitimate Tekken representative in Smash (see: Yoshimitsu, Bryan, etc), or even better (imo), a Smash representative (see: Captain Falcon specifically) in Tekken. Namco are behind both Tekken 7 and Ultimate so it only makes sense to me we see more than just a Heihachi Mii fighter costume as a bridge between the two franchises.
I just want a Monster Hunter character dammit. I got all excited for an Ancestral Steppe stage, instead it's just a...flat arena thing for Rathalos. Also, Verdant Hills theme sucks...I know it's also Rathalos's theme, but it still sucks. lol
Also Proof of a Hero, even though it's awesome, I wished they used the looped version. You know, the one you hear when you fight Mohran and Gog.
I don't really care for Goku, but it would still be nice to have some anime characters that do have video games. Oh wellz, maybe one day... ...one day I'll have Sailor Venus in Smash...

Keep it PG-13-ish.
@RedderRugfish Well, the last ones still intact. Joker's appeared on the 3DS at least, and he'll be on the Switch soon enough. But yeah, I get your point.
@RedderRugfish I mean when Joker was announced for Smash Q2 literally just released in Japan so he did have at least a 5% history with Nintendo which was a nice convienience

I honestly don't get the stigma surrounding Overwatch characters
I know with Blizzard, there are other franchises to derive characters from like Diablo class characters and the Space Marine in Starcraft, as well as Warcraft races like Orcs and Pandarians, but Overwatch is the only one of their properties with properly defined characters, and their vibrant designs are pretty well suited to Smash on top of that

1, it's Batman 2, the Lego games are a big franchise on Nintendo consoles with the Batman ones the biggest, 3 it's Batman 4, The Joker is in the game already so who is better to fight him than Batman.
@BlueBlur101 Au contraire, his first ever appearance was Tekken 1. He's been in every mainline Tekken and SoulCalibur release but he did not originate from SoulCalibur.
I would rather an iconic DOOM enemy make it into the roster as opposed to the Doom Marine. We already have Samus to scratch that space marine itch, and there are plenty of DOOM enemies with unique designs that would better complement the roster and add a bit more variety. I guess I am not as enamored by the abundance of human characters as many tend to be. There are already far too many characters on the roster that are very similar to another.
I think the Cacodemon and the Demon ("Pinky") would make for far more interesting enemies, and both are synonymous with the DOOM brand, though I would personally LOVE to see The Spider Mastermind, which has a very unique and distinctive design (nor are there any characters on the roster that are based on bugs, from memory), and being based on a spider, it would lend itself to a unique moveset. Perhaps they can take a few liberties with how it operates in DOOM and allow it to spin webs as well? The fact that it is the final boss in the original DOOM and DOOM 2016 also gives it a unique distinction from other enemies.
@cryptologousok clearly i never noticed him in tekken or i have terrible eyes because i dont have much experience with tekken compared to soulcalibur my bad

@BlueBlur101 : Revenant would be great moveset-wise, but I think its design is a bit too scary/graphic for a family-friendly game, as it has blood running down from its ribs to its thighs, and it wouldn't look quite the same without it.
