Hi everyone I figured I'd post about this game. Yeah its Japan only(for now), but it looked so good I had to get it, and gamble that as a platformer I could play it. So here is what I can say thus far...

Liar Princess is totally playable in Japanese. It opens with a lot of story, but with the storybook like quality it is pretty easy to understand what is going on visually. The story shows up as text on screen that a soothing female voice narrates throughout. Gameplay is pretty easy to figure out too. I made it through 2 levels piece of cake. Just note that the menu is navigable only with the arrow buttons and not the joysticks for some reason, but otherwise controls are intuitive. Charming as heck, some puzzle aspects, but mostly platforming with a few collectibles and it even has its own in game achievements even if nintendo won't .

But so far, very charming game. You can also rewatch all the cutscenes as "memories, yes, for some reason THAT part is English as well as the loading screen saying "now loading" why? God only knows. But at least it will make it possible to go back and try to translate the cut scenes as language study.I already learned a few words, so that will be nice.

In any event, if you thought the game looked charming and fun(which it is both) feel safe in getting it. If you are worried about not getting the story, I guess that is a downer, but hey, Mario has almost no story and perhaps a garbage one at that, and people love its platforming shenanigans. I give it... tenouttaten

I've been interested ever since the game was announced but I'll wait a while before I make my decision in case they do translate it. Good to know it's easy to figure out even if you can't read Japanese.

It's its, not it's.

yup. Main reason I bought it is to see what the famitsu edition had as well as an amazon exclusive item. But I was instantly lured in by the music, look and unique gameplay twist that works wonderfully as a plot device. I'm slowly going to likely try to play it and decypher the Japanese(kanji is a pain) so that I can fully appreciate it. If I really do go for it I may transcribe it(poor a job though I may do) and share it? I feel like there is some bi-lingual person out there who has already done it though. Eh, language study I guess.

But yeah I just had a sneaking suspicion that they wouldn't localize this game so I went ahead anyhow.

Bought it today after looking in all shops I could find... It was very tough because it is sold out EVERYWHERE. I was lucky to find a store that got ONE new copy today and I was the first to arrive!

How many copies did Nippon Ichi Software make? I mean, this game isn't that popular so being sold out everywhere only means that they make like 12 copies for the whole country...

Anyway, I finally got my copy but, unfortunately, I won't be able to play until Sunday or Monday.

I'll post my thoughts once I've played a bit.

I have no doubts NIS America will localize this game in the future.

Closed Nightmare on the other hand, probably not.

OK... I still need to complete the game but after I spent a few hours with the game this weekend (mainly watching my daughter playing it) and I must say that I’m wholeheartedly disappointed.

We haven’t finished the game yet but reading other people’s thoughts on it, it seems that’s painfuly short.

The characters animation is jerky and unnatural, though that might be by design.

The music is always the same tune repeated over and over again (at least after playing for three hours).

The story telling sections are soooo long that it feels more like an interactive illustrated book than a game.

And then, there’s the price, which is insultingly high for what it offers. I mean, ¥7500 (about $67) for this?
This game has the same quality as a mediocre to average indie game, but it’s priced as a AAA title. I can’t believe it. And games like Hollow Knight are infinitely better in every single way and cost just a fraction.
They even went on the cheap with the package, since it doesn’t have any inside art like most other Switch games.

At the current price, the only thing I can say is: stay away from this game. This game doesn’t deserve to be more than $30 and I’m being generous.

Other people’s mileage may vary, obviously, but I just can’t recommend this game. At least not at full price.

I shouldn’t have bought it. I should have trusted more the user ratings on Amazon which were lackluster for the most part.

So the game is getting the western release in 2019. Definitely a great news, wanted to play it for a long time.
NA preorders already started, EU will probably start in a day or two. Edition with soundtrack and storybook goes for 40$.

I should point out that nothing in this thread tells me what the gameplay actually is. I'm honestly impressed.

Please don't tell me what it is, I don't particularly care. I just find that amusing.

Preordered the LE from NIS America without hesitation.

@maruse Yeah, I was excited for it when it was announced, but the actual game doesn't look nearly as interesting as the trailers. I was excited for it, but it's been a maybe at best so far. I'd much rather play Penny-Punching Princess at this point.

@kkslider5552000 Most of the trailers don't tell you (or at least show in significant detail) what the gameplay is, either. Like Maruse said, it looks like an indie game. I'll leave the rest to your imagination, I guess...?

Turns out there is only digital release for PS4 and Switch in Europe. On the bright side, not like other NISA games, storybook edition is available on amazon.(maybe it is the only edition there is considering it costs 40 bucks?) If someone cares about getting the game physical in Europe, at least it shouldn’t be too difficult to i import.

Well I finally played through this even though I received my copy earlier this week (I was finishing up Cosmic Star Heroine). Anywho, I thought this was an average puzzle/platformer. Nice art, good soundtrack, good gameplay...mechanically. But after completing this in under three hours the only take away I have is that the overall experience was more frustrating than fun.

A 6/10 feels right. Worth a quick romp at a price range of $10-$15.
