Topic: Kingdom Hearts 3 on Switch?

Just curious, any reason they didn't make a switch version of KH3?

No clue though it should happen along with the story so far

If Final Fantasy VX couldn't run on the Switch, I don't see why KH3 would.

@Seacliff KH3 run on UE4, an engine that already has Switch support, while FF XV’s Luminous Engine isn’t built to develop Switch titles.

Total development clash. KH3 was announced and started development before the PS4 and XB1 were even out(!!) and it's barely releasing now, as both systems are winding down.

Could the Switch run it? I'd say yes, as U4 games seem to run fine on Switch. Never say never regardless.

KH3 director said that he isn't ruling out the game coming to the Switch, but at the moment he wants to fulfill the promise of the X1 & PS4 versions before focusing on additional platforms.

So yeah time will tell, but the positive side is that he didn't say no.

This game has been in development for the better half of a decade. This is why the latter half of any console’s lifespan is always the best. Because all the games they start developing in the beginning of the generation come out in the later half. 2-3 years from now, Switch will be seeing the same sort of thing.

I do actually think we’ll see Kingdom Hearts on Switch. At the very least, the Collections. But probably not for another year at the minimum. As to whether KH3 releases on Switch... eh, it’s hard to say. If they could get it running well enough I would say most definitely. I’m not confident they could. Let me rephrase that: they could, I just don’t know if they want to invest the amount of money and work it would require.

But even if it doesn’t come, it’s just one game in a series of 10+ games. If they bring the other 9 I’m not really going to get chuffed about this one. Heck, even just a few of them. Just a few to play portably now and then. That would be alright

I could take it or leave it. If it did ever get a switch port I might be tempted to check it out, but if I'm being honest my interest in the KH series puttered out a good 5-6 years ago.

Which don't get me wrong, it's a fun series and I respect all the heard work Nomura and his team put into the games, but sometimes you just loose interest in things yea know, sometimes something comes a little too late for you to really care anymore.

This seems entirely possible. And I really do hope it happens.

Given how long it took them to port DQ11, which is fairly equivalent in terms of visuals but much simpler in terms of mechanics, I wouldn't hold my breath. But then again, it would lead to massive sales in Japan, so I wouldn't rule it out either.

KH3 seems possible, but it would definitely take a huge performance hit....OTOH it seems like an ideal platform considering half the series has been Nintendo exclusive until they were remastered on PS4. More importantly, I can't believe Story So Far is PS4 exclusive while 3 is multiplat at all. Considering most of the older games are Nintendo games except for the main installments, it made the most sense to put SSF on Switch (and XBox since they did 3.)

@Anti-Matter @Mrtoad Crystal Tools is the reason that XIII will probably never be seen outside of X1 back compat, or if PS5 ever has back compat with PS3. That engine was a complete dog and there's near zero chance of them ever porting the game out of it. It's the only game (all of XIII trilogy) ever to use the engine other than XIV Online, and they ported XIV Online to a different engine when they did Realm Reborn as a total rewrite. XIII is divisive and not worth the cost, I'm sure.

I've said this before but I always thought it was odd that KH 1 and 2 never came to Nintendo platforms, even though they released various spin-offs that were exclusive to Nintendo handhelds for a while (such as 358/2 Days and Dream Drop Distance). I hope they rectify this and bring the KH collections to Switch. I really want to play the games but I only have Nintendo consoles and I ideally want to play the whole series in order, not just the handheld games. Given the cartoony graphics I don't think KH3 would suffer too much from being downgraded to run on Switch.
