@FGPackers They don't have to specifically mention it. We'll just "know" it, and keep it a secret from everybody! lol

@Spanjard I meant that maybe they don't want anymore confusion like on the Wii U launch, infact most people was wondering if the gamepad was a new Wii accessory, that was my point. I didn't explain myself good enough, sometimes it happens with english, but i'm working on it.

@FGPackers No problem, your English is pretty good. My comment wasn't meant to take that seriously but still, they don't have to confuse anyone.
They don't have to mention a thing, but like @skywake said, they can just add the compatibility with games that make sense.

Is anyone else really disappointed that the IR camera is on the bottom of the right joy-con and not the top? To me this makes it useless except in the form of gimmicks like that rock paper scissors demo. It also means no intuitive pointer controls for menus, internet, Netflix, and no Wii-style FPS controls. That's a lot that we don't get just because they couldn't design it into the top, and this more than anything feels like an unneeded cost to the Switch. Even more than HD rumble, which could have some cool uses.

@McGruber I'm not because of a simple design consideration: IR camera on top means no shoulder, trigger. Seems logical to me, and surely not a problem

Why did Nintendo abandon the octagonal rim around the analogue sticks?

I can understand it with the small 3DS circle pads, but I was so disappointed to see it continued with the Wii U and now the Switch. Sure, PlayStation and Xbox has always had smooth circular rims, but I've always found it harder to have precise controls without the tactile feedback of having defined directions thanks to the octagonal rim in classic Nintendo analogue controllers.

It's not a super big of a deal in 3D games, but this is even more baffling considering that the Joy-Con do not have a d-pad. The octagonal ridges would have helped when using the Joy-Con in 2D games.

@Moshugan I like the old style too. I didn't like the Wii U's analog sticks at all. Especially in games where you needed to press them. They were far too tight and I always got a weird click from them. The 3DS circle pad on the other hand I always liked, especially with how flat it makes the face of the system. I kind of wish the Switch could have had those, but they probably aren't ideal. 25 days

Not sure if anyone has asked this, we know that you can achieve 8 player local play connecting 8 individual Switch tablets in portable mode, even allowing download play. But I was wondering if there was a possibility that TV play allowed up to eight players?

I assume you can register 4 controllers to the system (i.e. in their Joy-Con grips) so would it therefore not be technically impossible to slide them out and use them individually creating eight separate players for games like Bomberman, Smash Brothers, Sports Games (like FIFA,NHL,NBA) Mini game fun (i.e. Wii Play/Sports, Nintendo Land style)?? That would make it so fun for gaming nights and family get-togethers, offering a unique selling point that the other consoles don't have.

Who here actually likes the Wii U Pro Controller?

I've never been that satisfied with it. To me it just feels a lot like the Wii U itself; that being unfinished. None of the buttons strike me as being an upgrade, and the glossy finish is annoying.

But even just looking at the Switch Pro Controller, you can tell that Nintendo have actually taken the product seriously. If you view the hi-res images, you can see that the analogue sticks, for example, have a set of thin rims right around the edge, just to enhance the grip. The triggers appear to be right where you would expect them, with plenty of area to place your fingers. And the ABXY buttons have a really nice amount of surface too - many users have commented on them having lots of depth when pressed.

So £60 is a lot of money, but the fit, finish and new features (HD rumble, gyro, NFC) make it worthwhile.

I guess I can agree with that sentiment regarding the Wii U pro controller. It always felt like there should be more to it. The triggers in particular felt too thin, I imagine analog triggers would have felt so much better. And the whole thing itself was very uncomfortably light. Which in turn sort of made it feel cheap. It's the same issue I had with the PS3 controller. Of course overall it was great just because of the ridiculous battery life. But I do agree it felt more like half of a controller.

My understanding is that only 7 devices can be connected to a Bluetooth host at once. So when doing local multiplayer there are going to be some limits on how many controllers you can use. Specifically 7 Pro Controllers or 3 JoyCon pairs. WiFi doesn't really have the same limit. They could, if they wanted, do 30+ Switch units in local multiplayer. The hardware itself would struggle but the wireless spec wouldn't.

So probably what will happen is that 8 player multiplayer will have to be across at least two consoles. Maybe you could setup two TVs in different rooms with 4 players on each. That'd be how you'd get that to work. And for most games I can't see how 8 players on one screen would really work anyways.

It's my favourite controller easily. My only two complaints are the glossy plastic and the fact that it lacks motion control. I would've liked to have been able to use those finer controls for games like Splatoon or Zelda. In general it's comfortable, light and has an amazing battery life.

The Switch Pro Controller is definitely a better controller but. Non-glossy plastic, some 90s era see-through design, and generally bigger buttons and d-Pad. In addition to the finer rumble, NFC, motion controls and equally as fantastic battery life.

If the Super Bowl trailer is anything to go by, we see 4 players in one room with 1 playing on the TV, and 4 players in another room without a TV.

Edit; NVM! I see we are talking about download play lol

I know that I'll be in the niche minority here, but I can't wait to play a fishing game with that HD rumble

I don't mind if it's a "Get Bass/SEGA Bass Fishing" remake or even just a mini-game in Zelda; feeling the line tense and the fish on the hook could be awesome.

What other things could you imagine being great with and because of HD rumble?

zitpig

Emperor-Palpsy

@zitpig I would too; except my Dad will just pull the "Why don't you go fishing with me then?" line :I

@Emperor-Palpsy LOL. Perhaps you could hook him with the switch? BTW my Dad would be the same!

Anyone know what happened to the Hori wired controller? It seemed like a good cheap extra controller. I thought it was due out on 3rd March but no one seems to be listing it.

The reported syncing issues with the left Joy-Con are a bit worrying.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1346789

I dearly hope it's a software issue that will be patches ASAP. It would suck if it affected a lot of people, or if it was a hardware issue demanding reclamations.

@chardir I guess it's coming a bit later to not compete with the official Pro right off the bat?
