Personally ill be going to the shop just before midnight, wait for the store to open, pay for my switch and then go home.
That's one hell of a story
Even if there were a midnight launch near me (which I doubt), I'm buying mine in secret so would have to come up with an excuse to be out of the house, which wouldn't be plausible in my circumstances, so instead I'll just hope to intercept the delivery driver during the day, and hope that he comes early.
Enjoy your midnight party - I'll probably be lurking in the forums waiting for the first players to update with their hype.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Unfortunately i have to pick it around mid day because i can't before. Something around 1.00-1.30PM. Guess i'll start the system between 2.30-3.30PM because the store is 30 minutes drive away from my house. Huge hype here!
@ChrispyNoodle Mario Kart 8 lit a fire in me for gaming that had been fairly dormant for some time. Over the last 2-3 years I've bought an absolute boat load of games (mostly used Wii games but also a large number of Wii U games) and was getting heat from the missus (more to do with the sheer volume of games I was collecting without actively playing, but under the guise that they were supposedly all £2-3 purchases - many were, but many weren't).
Then the N3DS launched and I bought my first ever portable (Game and Watch not included) in secret, getting it delivered at work. Cue the buying of countless 3DS and DS games.
Then I bought a secret PS3, getting that delivered to my parents'. Cue the buying of many PS3 games.
Then Cyber Monday 2016 hit and I bought a secret XBoneS.
Then I bought a secret 1080p IPS monitor and Steam Link for my PC. And while all the above has been going on I've been continuing to build my Steam library.
So now Switch is here, and I can buy it on interest free credit, so... why not?
tl;dr - I'm a dirty gaming addict that gets heat for the time I spend on this addiction. If the money I was spending was realised it would make things much griefier, so why not keep it a secret, it's more fun that way

More than a quarter of my states population (including myself) lives around the capital city (128k people), so, obviously, the only store in the state that is having a midnight launch is the one in the city that has half (68k) the population of the capital...
Backwards bloody state.
So it looks like I'll be getting the switch after I've been to the doctor, ~10am.

I'm getting mine at a midnight launch. My store has confirmed they will be opening at 11pm for browsing and then selling at midnight. I've preordered all the games and accessories so really I just want to pick it up and go. I've been to a midnight launch once before for the Wii U and remember them having a raffle ticket system where they handed out the tickets to the people waiting outside and that determined the order you would be served. This is annoying as it means I'll have to get there for around about half 10 to secure my place and then essentially hang around for an hour and a half before I get my switch. At least if they hand out raffle tickets I can go back to my car and sleep for a bit without losing my place in the queue. Then I'll get home set it up, start the inevitable long day one patch and go to bed ready for a three day weekend of Switch 😀
@Mellor2000 Great story man. Thanks for sharing. ill be doing the exact same thing. The raffle ticket system is probably better than having to stand outside the shop all evening.
I'm definitely going to the midnight launch, I'm not sure if the GameStop I preprdered at is even doing one but I'm planning on calling soon just to make sure. Since I work a late shift sleeping early doesn't exist for me so I'll have no problem staying up and playing some Zelda.
For anyone with experience with midnight console launches:
How early do people start lining up for them, and what general time frame should I get there if I don't have a pre order, to ensure I'll be there for the tickets for the walk-ins?
@Operative2-0 There likely won't be any walk ins for the Switch console since each store offering only gave a certain amount of preorders per store. I know that's the case for GameStop but you can always call any store to ask if they'll have any extra for walk ins. The games shouldn't be a problem, they'll likely have some extra if you're just getting a game without a preorder. Now for preorders in general there might be a few hard core people there a couple of hours early (maybe 5-10 or more, depends on where you live) but most of the people waiting in line come in 30 minutes to an hour before. They'll have two registers or more open, one for people who preordered and one for people who are buying then. I hope that helped, and good luck with your mightnight releasing adventure.
I had an angled glance at my local Game (UK) store today. From outside the store at least you wouldn't even know the Switch was coming. One side of the door the display was mobile phones, the other side of the door it was Xbox. I'm guessing they're not opening at midnight on the 3rd...
