Topic: Help with Nintendo Switch game for 2 consoles

My grandkids are each getting a switch lite for Christmas. They both like to play minecraft at the same time. Do I have to buy two games? or can the one game be downloaded to each of their consoles? Confused grandma.lol

Yeah, they'll need one copy each to both play at the same time. If only one of them was going to play at once then there's a way you can share the game between two consoles, but it's a little complicated and it wouldn't work if they both want to play at the same time anyway.

You'll need two of everything:
-Two games $$(one per console)
-Two nintendo accounts (one account per console. accounts are free)
-If they both want to access/play online games, you will also need two Nintendo Switch Onilne subscriptions. Buy a family plan ($35) if you need two or more Nintendo Switch Online subsciptions. It's $5 cheaper than two single subscriptons. (a single subscription is $19.99). However, If they plan to only play using Switch's local wireless connectivity(not internet) NSO sub is not needed.

You can also use Nintendo support for help. They have directions for setup questions. Just use the search bar on the support page. You can search set up switch for children, set up nintendo account. NOTE: you cannot change an account age/birthday after it's set. So, if you have a teen that will want to play teen/mature games, their nintendo account will have to be set for the age range of the games they are allowed to play.

(historically their support has been good, but I don't know if it's still as good since the pandemic. I used them last christmas, and the inside rep seemed like a new temp that had to look everything up before responding to my questions. I don't know if that was a fluke, or a sign that support quality and hiring practices had changed there)

Or you could get a family membership for them both, which is $5 cheaper than buying two individual memberships. Plus you could add more Switch users to the family plan at any time, up to 8.

Also if you manage to find other people interested in joining in on to the family plan (preferably trustworthy people), you can divide the price and pay it as a group, reducing the price further down for you.
