Wow, that dungeon was difficult .... Completed it, though Been exploring a lot to level up all my characters Eventually, got to Archades after a long trip
From what I've played of Final Fantasy VII so far, I definitely don't think we can accurately gauge how much of the charm will be retained or lost from these trailers we've seen so far. They're showing us Midgar because Midgar is the beginning of the game.
I'm curious to see what the less grungy towns will look like in the game.
@Dezzy - I wonder how well the FF community will accept the changes to FFVII's combat? Going from traditional menu-driven turn-based combat to active combat similar to FFXV or Type-0. It might turn some people off to the remake. Not only that, but also the fact that the remake will be episodic.
How eager will people be to pay $20-$30 three, four, five times or more for one action/rpg game?
What should have been a single movie was spread thin over 3 or 4 movies, some of which saw very little plot advancement.
If they truly are expanding, it sucks because the pacing of the game will have to be spread thin and stuffed with filler, on top of which it’ll be another decade before the full game is finally out.
If they’re not expanding and just breaking it down, it sucks because a full game is being sold piecemeal.
Either way, it’s enough to make me pass until the full thing (the FULL thing) is released and sold in one package. And I’m a FF nut... maybe it’s because I’m a FF nut... Idk. But I refused to sub to HBO Now for GoT season 8 until the entire thing is available, and I don’t see this as being any different.
By the time that all happens, Switch 3 will be releasing and they’ll port the whole thing over anyways.

The Hobbit is a short story, written in the style of a children's fairytale. It was always a disaster trying to turn it into 3 blockbuster action movies. They were messing with its intended style in order to do that.
FF7 is not. FF7 was always intended to be a mature fantasy epic. If you think about it for a minute, it's quite clear that modern production values inevitably change how long things take. Think about all the character animations (including faces) and dialogue that replaces simple text with static low-poly models. Think about how much longer it takes to simply walk between 2 places (e.g Midgar to Kalm on the world map).
All of these things just take longer in a fully 3D world with realistic characters.
@Dezzy
I’m just not seeing in my guy. Hobbit was a single book. And it was a pretty big book, not a short story. They made a single movie out of each Lord of the Rings book. Then took a similar sized book The Hobbit, and split it into a trilogy as large as the entire LotR saga. And it suffered tremendously because of it (it’s why LotR are still favorites among fans to this day, yet very few talk about The Hobbit despite the book being the better story).
It’s a single game, always has been, just like every other FF. To split it up into episodes... that’s just SE greedily capitalizing on the popularity of the game. Nothing more, nothing less.
I’m happy for people who are not bothered by it. And I’m not saying the game doesn’t look great. But it’s hard to get excited for something (originally a single game, with a single storyline) that’s going to get split apart into multiple releases over God knows how many years.
Perhaps we’ll get lucky and they’ll announce that’s not the case. If so it’s day one, without question. If not... I can wait.

You're misunderstanding my point. They ARE breaking it up into separate parts. But those parts are NOT going to be smaller episodes (like a Telltale game).
Each of those parts are going to be full games. They said it will be like the FF13 trilogy. So it will probably be 3 $60 games, each released 2-3 years apart. Something like that.
So by "expanding" it, I mean they're turning the original 40 hour game into a 100+ hour game in total (3 standard length Final Fantasy games combined)
@Dezzy - Hmm, that could be interesting. I wonder if Square Enix would take the stories from Crisis Core and Advent Children, mash them together, creating the complete narrative? Or are talking about bloating just the FFVII narrative itself? I feel that would be difficult to pull off through gameplay alone. In that sense it would be like a Telltale game, an interactive movie with sparse moments of actual gameplay.
Of course I could be way off base. We'll find out more concrete info during Square Enix's E3 press conference. But I'm not excited about the prospect of paying $60 to play a third of FFVII. Then having to wait a few more years and pay another presumed $60 to play part two of three?
I'd rather just wait until the end of the PS5's life cycle and get all parts together, in one package at a lower price point.

This far into development with this little information and footage...I fear people are letting their nostalgia cloud what this really is. Hardcore fans think they're getting three, full-sized games that live up to the hype of the original.
What are they actually going to get? A FFXIII x Kingdom Hearts style trilogy. Not saying either of those trilogies are bad...but they don't live up to FFVII nostalgia by a long shot. Lower your expectations now...it's for your own good. A game stuck in development hell and kept alive solely by fanboy nostalgia and false Sony promises and hype (No Man's Sky...) is never a good sign.
@R_Champ - It's too early to tell. This could be another epic like The Banner Saga, only on a grander budget scale. Or it could be a money-grubbing hot mess. We need to know more.

Didn't have time to play for almost a week but I'm now back to playing FFX again. Apparently I had saved just before a boss fight. The battle was kind of a puzzle in a sense. I had no trouble with the beginning but lost couple of times at the last phase before I remembered that I have null spells. I never had a need to use them so it wasn't something that instantly occured to me.
I really liked how they changed the order of events. I was expecting I'd have to solve the puzzle room before the boss but this time the puzzle was after Yuna got her new summon. Still not sure what I think of the puzzles themselves. The whole orb thing is kind of random. It's a lot of trial and error since the effects vary so much.
@Late
Say, is your image copying tool updated to all the latest games? The one I have is still only updated to 2017 titles. But I have screenshots from 100-200 games now, strung across multiple SD cards, that I need to get onto my PC.

The fact that the main story is already written ahead of time, is an important difference with those others. Those both had disconnected meandering plots that they invented as they progressed. FF13 especially was just a random mess in the story department. 13-2 has so little to do with the first game. And Lightning Returns is just a bunch of sidequests strapped together cos they wanted to make more money out of the IP.
FF7 won't fall victim to that at all. They know ahead of time what it's going to be.
@JaxonH It should work fine. I use it once in a while. It uses the game's IDs to sort the screenshots so it should always get the images to correct folders regardless of when the game came out. It doesn't keep track of the actual names of the games. It's very bare-bones but it does its job. On the other hand, I've been meaning to make it a bit nicer since it's currently just a simple command window and you end up with folders with the IDs instead of the name of the game.
Try it out and see if it's something that works for you or if you want to see it with an actual UI and option to name the folders. I was thinking I'd make the program show a screenshot from each game that doesn't have earlier screenshots. The user would be able to input the game's name and it registers the ID-name combo so it remembers where to put the image next time.
I just put in an order for the FFX/X-2 collection on Amazon JP! I'm both excited and nervous at the same time, lol (excited because FFX was one of the definitive games of my youth, but nervous to see if it'll really hold up since it's been about 15 years since I played it on PS2). It'll also be weird going back to a JRPG with random encounters since every one I've played in the past few years has ditched the concept.
