Maybe I'm weird, but I'm surprised people are still so interested in this. Is there still some huge audience that doesn't have first party NES/SNES titles that currently has a Switch (or plans to get one soon)?
Like, for me, I do need to get a few more, but if I was still playing games as frequently as I used to, I think I would've downloaded every single first party game I wanted to do (and maybe every 3rd party one based on Wii U's limited library). And I'm not paying for them AGAIN, just for convenience. Some of them I paid for in the past and then did so again already! But at least I didn't have them by this point (the GBA games come to mind). And honestly, if VC games were overshadowing indie games in the past (which I honestly think they have been), I'm actually glad they aren't on Switch right now. At least as VC is now, screw that! If people are buying new games instead of paying 8 bucks for Mario World for the 3rd time, this is absolutely for the best.
@kkslider5552000 and lotsa switch owners are casuals and/or skipped WiiU and want the classics to play. Even willing to pay for them. So yes, youre weird.
@kkslider5552000 I think it has more to do with convenience than anything else. Being able to play VC games on your go-to system is way better than having to keep an old system hooked up to your TV for VC.
Iwata's death caused the VC's death as well. Kimishima is not very fan friendly and how Nintendo stopped listening to fans after Iwata is proof of that. It's as if Nintendo is blaming fans for Wii U's poor sales. I'm sure if Iwata was still alive now we would be getting VC on Switch by now and Classic Edition consoles would not have been limited items.
I think there's an argument that the mania - and exclusivity - for the NES and SNES minis are simply a very good way of fuelling and gauging the appetite for classic Nintendo games. If people are ravening after old SNES games, then Nintendo may reason they are thus more likely to shell out 300 beans for a Switch. Thus I'm hoping that, once the SNES mini dust settles, Nintendo will be ready to launch its VC on Switch on January 1, telling people: "Look, you can get all those classic games here, including Star Fox 2 - and take them with you (don't look at the price, don't look at the price)."
This month at least 6 games (Final Soldier, Soldier Blade, Ninja Spirit, Victory Run, Air Zonk, and Bonk III: Bonk's Big Adventure) were released on the Virtual Console in Europe on Wii U.
But well, it's just KONAMI milking out the last drops of their overtaken HUDSON SOFT catalog.

@kkslider5552000 Well, for me, as mentioned above, skipped the WiiU. There was no reason for me to buy one. There was no games on the Wii U that made me think, geeze, I HAVE to have one. Just about any Nintendo exclusive is either on the Wii (which I have), or now on the Switch. Nintendo in recent years has been releasing staple games (like Zelda) on their old and new platforms, so lately I no longer buy every platform. I started with NES, then SNES, N64, skipped Game Cube, got a Wii, skipped Wii U, and now have a Switch, etc. I'm not a hard core Nintendo player. I like the exclusives, like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, yada yada yada, but other than those, I'm more of a PS and XBox gamer (I play both for same reason, exclusives).
Whats a virtual reality console have to do with adding classing nintendo games to the library? No one ones another thing you wear over your head for Nintendo.
@SKTTR Well I was told Final Soldier was the best of the bunch (probably debatable) and it never came out on other services like PSN; last time was the Wii VC.
@kkslider5552000 This is something I've wondered; I mean I like the VC but the near obsessiveness people have with it on this site and their frenzy regarding its delay appearing on the Switch surprises me. I get excited with new consoles as a chance to play new games, playing old games is just a nice extra. Sure trying to grab some of those classic titles at affordable prices is challenging but its not like we don't have 3 other systems that offer Nintendo VC in some shape or form.
Frankly, I'm glad Nintendo are putting their resources into new games rather than rereleasing old ones yet again.
I do hope the VC makes its way in some shape of form, but frankly I'm in no rush for it.
