I searched first, surprised there’s not a thread on this.
I saw on Twitter Gamestop is selling Doom Eternal today to get copies out if more lockdowns start. I talked to my buddy who works there on the phone. I had no clue it’s only Xbox & PS4 right now. I mean yeah, I could get it for my PS4 Pro, but I intentionally get these AAA FPS ports for Switch.
It's hard to imagine them cancelling it unless all the talk of how much time has been put into adapting it to Switch is all BS. I think the reason it reads TBD 2020 is because they stated it won't be ready the same time as official release for others, it still needs time. They haven't put a date on it, but I wouldn't think it would be more than a few months. The game itself was delayed 3 months for the other systems as far as I remember. I think it was originally due to release in Nov or Dec.
I’m loving this on the Xbox One X. It’s going to be hard to believe this is going to play on Switch. But they said that about the last Doom. I played all the way through on Switch and loved it. Hope there’s some news soon for those holding out.
id Software's executive producer Marty Statton said, that they'll be talking about the release date of the Switch version of Doom Eternal pretty soon.

So when and how do you expect id Software to make this announcement and when will it release? My guess is, it will be a Twitter announcement in the second half of July with a release in October.
I'd hope it is out way before October (late August or early September is my optimistic guess). I don't know if Covid-19 has played a part in this game's delay, but it has been ages since it released on other platforms!
I loved playing Doom 2016 on the Switch and so I was really excited to play Eternal on the same platform, but I have to admit the lack of news and footage or screenshots, with the platform again being treated like an afterthought, is a bit frustrating
They initially so positive about it, talking about how the delay Switch owners have to endure for multiplatform releases would no longer be much of an issue and how they plan to release the Switch version of Doom Eternal on the same day as other versions. Then it changed to something like "Switch owners won't have to wait too long"... and then didn't even bother talking about or discussing it ever again (until now).
@Reprise
I feel you. By now I even thought the game might have been canceled and instead of telling us directly, they just hush it up until everyone forgot about it. But now it seems we can be hopeful again.
@Reprise It's probably a fall title tbh. I don't personally care about the Switch version because I already bought the PC version at launch, but when this comes out I think the hype for this game would've died down significantly since most people who wanted to play probably already have. Also funny thing is Eternal just got confirmed for PS5/Series X.

Remember that it was said on this site that the developers where making it with Switch in mind from the start? Well, that seems to be a lie since people are still waiting for the Switch version. Yeah Corona, but it shouldn't take THIS long!
@Henmii
We don't know the reason for why it's taking so long. In my opinion, it's probably taking a lot longer because they're once again performing magic tricks with even getting a game like this to run on Switch hardware.
I came close to buying it for PC during the Steam summer sale, but I didn't go through with it. Having it on-the-go is more important to the realities of my life these days, so I'm willing to wait and take the (probably huge) graphical hit. And money hit. And probably having to download 99% of the game even with physical lol
Yeah, maybe things didn't go as smooth as planned. I mean, the game has strong graphics and is blistering fast. I wonder if it can still be done 100% on the card (no download required). As far as I know Doom 2016 single-player came 100% on the card, the multiplayer had to be downloaded.
But it could also be that they shoved it to the Switch 2. I still believe in a Switch 2 being around the corner, a device with stronger graphics. Might also be the reason why Nintendo doesn't show anything. Install-base doesn't mean anything. They can create a new install-base. Maybe they are planning a smartphone strategy: Every 2 or 2 years a updated device. Please no!!

There will be no Switch 2 while the original keeps selling so well.
@Henmii
Yea, I have 2016 DOOM on Switch and you had to download the multiplayer. Still a pretty decent chunk of data to download, so I was a bit disappointed with that.
I do think we'll see Eternal this year, it's just a bummer it will be so long after the other versions and most likely won't sell nearly as well as it could have. It was a huge deal to be getting such a high-profile AAA game relatively close to a simultaneous release, but that second part has been dwindling as the months pass by.
I think we're years away from Switch 2, but I do think some sort of upgraded Switch 1 is in the works for next year. I think Nintendo wants to sell Switch for a solid three more years, if not four, and a pro model released next year (fall 2021) would perhaps give them the legs to make that possible.
