@Spoony_Tech @Deathwalka I don't pay too much attention to the compass/markers, just keep a look out for green lights either on doors or you'll see them regularly on platforms that you can jump on

Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.

Biggest gripe for me is the audio bugs. Really should be fixed

Got the boots today for that extra jump boost and super shotgun. Oh my so much fun had with that. Also did a couple of the rune challenges I found, some harder than others. And yeah I got lost a few times as well but thats because Im trying to explore like it's Breath of the Wild lolol.

Audio bug is annoying but I make my way to the next checkpoint and reload. I'm sure an update will fix it. Still an absolutely brilliant game.

I can’t decide whether to buy this. I stopped playing pure FPS some years ago. Relentless shooters, especially linear ones, have little interest for me now. But I did play the original Doom games in the 90s and really liked them. Might there be a demo eventually?

@Roamer
I doubt it.

So, honest opinion. The game itself (ignoring platform) is fun as heck. I'd say it's right up there with Zelda and Mario as one of the best games on the Switch.

This version isn't perfect though. Little lower res than I'd like (although still miles beyond even the best Vita FPS games which looked good in their own right) and there is an audio bug so sometimes sound gets quiet until reloading a checkpoint or dying (only happened once to me, but I think some others here have had it happen a few times). As for framerate, I think it runs super smooth and fluid. Granted, I play on the easier difficulty. I've heard from others here that on the higher difficulties where there are more enemies on screen, the frame rate can noticeably dip.

Now personally, I think it's worth every last cent. This is by far the best FPS game on a handheld ever released in the history of video games. However if you plan on playing the harder difficulties I think you should evaluate your tolerance for framerate, since it's pretty well-established the game does take some dips on the higher difficulties. With that said, it is a little harder to play any FPS game on a handheld, so it might be a good idea to play on the easier difficulty mode anyways. Heck, even on Xbox One I play on the easier difficulty because I find it it's plenty hard enough as it is lol.

So basically, just understand that it's not without its faults. Hopefully they can patch out that sound bug and maybe sure up the framerate a bit on the higher difficulties. I'm not really holding out hope for better optimization in resolution, but again, I can live with it as is. It's kind of like Rocket League where it's not full 720p in handheld, it's like 610p on average. But considering the average Vita FPS was at like 390p, it still looks incredible to me. As for docked mode, it's passable. Not the best looking game on the system but certainly decent.

Again, all things considered I think this game- even with its faults- is one of the best games on the system, but other people might have a different opinion.

It's a great experience and a great addition to the Switch library, no doubt about it. I've found myself overlooking more of the graphical downgrades as I've played more and more - you kind of get used to it just like water temperature lol

@rallydefault
Ya, you do.

Like I said it's certainly not a perfect port. At the very least I would hope they can patch up the sound bug and whatever frame rate issues people are having on harder difficulties. The resolution I guess is something we just have to live with. But it's not like it looks bad. It just isn't top shelf like some other games.

But just being able to set up a private match and play DOOM multiplayer with friends, on a Nintendo console... is worth it's weight in gold. Being able to play through the campaign, in handheld mode or tabletop anywhere you want... is priceless. I really hope as many people buy and experience and enjoy this game as possible

I've been playing quite a bit of Doom today on the TV,I think it looks great on there still.It doesn't necessarily have to be just a handheld experience like some reviewers have made out. Of course if you own one of the other consoles or gaming PC then it's different but if not, then it's well worth getting even if you only play docked.

Ya, on its own merits, it looks about as good as any Switch game docked.

It's just, in comparison to... but we knew that for practically an Switch game port. Granted, LA Noire is just about full parity so it's not impossible to have ports that stand up. I just don't think we'll see them stand up for current generation games. Remastered seventh gen games have a chance

Playing in tabletop mode there with the Pro, man this game is outstanding.The tension is unreal and me not being very good at aiming only adds to it. Love the movements of some of the baddies too, they can really catch you out sometimes.

@Roamer taken as a Switch game it looks great both docked and portable (people in work are amazed by how this looks) and is one of the best looking Switch games, arguably the best looking. It does have an audio bug which hasn't happened often and isn't too big of a distraction and the slowdown shown in videos tends to be exclusive to the harder difficulties on arcade mode, I'm playing campaign on medium difficulty and have experienced only a couple drops in certain areas. As for the game this is by far the best first person shooter I've played in about 10 to 15 years with most of the modern tropes all but non existent. With meaty weapons, fast gameplay and the incredibly satisfying glory kill mechanic which encourages you to get up close and personal and its just great fun, mixed with some exploration if you want it to find many secrets and classic levels. If this didn't exist on other consoles I think this would get more praise then it does but isn't this what we wanted? I finished this on PS4 and have no issues playing it entirely docked on my Switch and most importantly in terms of the enjoyment I've had playing the 2 versions that is definitely equal and is possibly behind only Mario and Zelda in the best games on Switch

@JaxonH @carlos82 thanks for the replies. I’ll check out more gameplay vids. Glad to hear there’s some exploration too and it’s not just relentless shooting.

@Roamer completely agree with Jaxonh here, I too am not a big fan of fps, I hate the cod and halo games, to me they are so overrated but that's because I'm not a big on fps games, I get bored after a couple of days, but I can honestly say this game has pulled me away from mario, which is high praise!
I'm having a lot of fun and don't regret buying this at all! I have actually experienced the lack of sound last night when I got the boots but I just went out and went back into the game and it was fine, so that's the only bug I have experienced.
I would urge anyone to buy, as support goes a long way for everyone to get other great games in the future, and I keep saying this but next year will be the best year for switch, as Bethesda will bring out fallout 4 and GTA 5. So please support if you can, you won't regret it.

In my opinion, the best way to play Doom on Switch is table_top mode + Pro Controller.

You can definitely play on higher difficulties so long as you're using the Pro Controller, in my opinion.
The Joycons feel good but they aren't accurate enough.Still, this is the best FPS I've ever played on a portable device. Nothing's ever come this close.

In this mode, the compromises made to graphics are negligible and your accuracy is improved with a pro controller because of it's sticks.

I see the Switch edition as a portable version of the game. This is best thing about the Switch because you can decide what kind of experience you want to have.

What does aim assist even do in this game? Doesn't seem to help at all.

Oh ya, tons of exploring. Very Metroid Prime like. There's a lot of secrets to find in every level and a hidden lever that unlocks a room of retro DOOM back on PC. As you explore you unlock the map as you go, and it's a huge sprawling 3-D map with multiple levels and tiers and branching paths (again very Metroid Prime like). And there is also a Maps station you can find that downloads the map (like Metroid Prime) where unexplored areas will remain gray and explored areas turn blue.

This game is a hybrid between standard FPS and Metroid Prime-like first person exploration.
