Hang on, I thought the multiplayer was an optional download? And I am sure I managed to play games out the box without downloading any patches/updates in the past so why is it different with DOOM?

@FragRed I guess we have to wait until tomorrow to see that people say.

@Zuljaras I hope so as I've got this going to my work address in the hope is be able to play it during breaks.

I couldn't agree more hence my orginal post about it being included in the game, however I disagreed with you when you started the victim pity party.

Optional was never mentioned people assumed because of the split of multiplayer/single it was optional. As it's a mandatory update like LA Noire or WWE 2K18 the game needs it to be complete in order to play so you can ignore the update request but you can't get past the title screen.

What I should of done is tried playing it with the wi-fi off to see if that was a work around for it.

@jump In that case I will not buy it just the same with LA Noire. This is just sad.

Uh, that's not the case. You can play the full game without the update. Aside from multiplayer, obviously (which btw, has bots)

See link above. You do not need the update to play the game. The game is 100% playable without downloading any update. It might be a small annoyance that you have to deal with the pop-up notification every time you launch the game asking you if you want to update or start the software, but it's totally not required. Unless you want to play multiplayer, obviously.

@JaxonH There is another game update game notifaction on the title screen which you can't skip past by going no, I know this as I've actually got the game. There may be a work based on disconnecting the wi-fi as I only thought of that after I downloaded it but it will appear and block you unless it's region specific.

A quick google search shows others are having the same issue of a compulsory update.

Not that I care. I'll be downloading the patch and on top of that, decided to buy it digitally.

@subpopz PS4 is basically PC architecture with crappy CPU. Sony was scarred by the beating the PS3 took by 360, both in sales and software performance. Whereas in the past they would engineer esoteric hardware with power raw power that was difficult to tap into, with the PS4 they completely aped the Xbox concept.

Ironically, Microsoft was so sure of their ways they shot themselves in the foot trying to chase a nonexistent market, creating an opportunity for Sony to play their game better. Maybe the original XB1 plan could have worked, but the timing was all wrong.

Wait, what?? Beating?? Last I checked they were neck and neck on global sales. Not too sure about software but system sales were pretty much even.

@BLP_Software would there be a difference in how the game looks for you on Switch vs PS4? I’m not asking to be rude or trying to be funny. Because from what has been shown in videos the versions look identical as far as the colors go amongst versions.

@DTMOF84 People say the game looks blurrier due to the lower resolution and 30fps gameplay, plus lower resolution textures. I want to see that for myself.

The game is almost assuredly less crisp on the Switch. There's a huge difference in hardware power to account for.

I originally skipped on this for the PS4 because I had a lot of other games on the table I had to work on. This being on the Switch decided it for me to be a day one purchase.

@JaxonH I saw the post you mentioned and it indeed the person said that you can skip the update and play only from the cartridge. On the other hand the other player that also got the game is stating that you cant start the game if you dont update.
I have to wait today to see what is happening. Until then I cant buy the game.
I need only games that are playable from the cartridge.

@Zuljaras So he is contradicting himself? Looks like I won't be playing this game at work. Back to Mario Odyssey it is.

Pro-Tip: to defeat the cyberdemon, keep shooting it till it dies.

@FragRed I have no idea. Some say you can skip it and play the single player others say you can't and you MUST download the damn multiplayer patch.
